Smackdown SPOILERS 1/20

-- World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan came out for a promo segment, and was greeted by a chorus of boos. He talked about A.J. only being 90-some-odd pounds and Big Show being almost 500 pounds and that Big Show hurt her on purpose. He said it's ironic that we are in Sin City because Big Show committed a huge sin. Big Show's tears weren't real; they were crocodile tears due to Show being bitter about having the shortest World Heavyweight Title reign in history. He said he's not scared of anyone and A.J. said she loved him, which nobody has ever said to him before..and that he's "highly fond of her, as well."

-- Next up were Santino and Hornswoggle playing cards backstage. The camera panned to Cody Rhodes, who said it looks like he's the last hope for the Rhodes family, hinting at an upcoming feud with Goldust. He spun the roulette wheel, which landed on "Player's Choice," which meant he could choose his opponent. He chose Hornswoggle.

-- In the ring, Cody slapped Hornswoggle around before the bell and then Justin Gabriel's music hit. He came out and told Cody he should pick on someone his own size. This led to...

(1) IC champion Cody Rhodes beat Justin Gabriel in a non-title match. Gabriel got in most of the offense, but Cody won with Cross Rhodes. I was surprised at the lack of a Beautiful Disaster spot, which Cody has been doing a lot more as a finisher. Side note, I believe Gabriel REALLY needs to cut his hair. It just doesn't make him look tough at all.

-- Next, Mark Henry was at the wheel and told Teddy Long that his pipsqueak champion doesn't stand a chance and will suffer in the Hall of Pain. He made Teddy spin for him and it landed on a Lumberjack match for the World Title main event.

(2) WWE tag champions Primo & Epico beat The Usos in a non-title Tornado Tag match. The Usos came out last and did their impressive Samoan dance routine, followed by loud pyro. Their Titantron intro read "The Uso's," which made me laugh. The match was short and ended when Primo hit the backstabber during a typical tag mayhem portion of every other tag match.

-- Next, Sheamus was shown spinning the wheel, which landed on a tables match.

-- In the ring, Lilian Garcia announced a "dance off" between Brodus Clay and Vickie Guerrero. Brodus did his usual jig and the crowd was really into him. During his dance, William Regal's name popped up on the Titantron for a moment, which confused people, but we chalked it up to technical difficulties. Vickie went to dance and pulled off an amusingly stiff "old lady shuffle." Lilian asked for crowd reaction to determine the winner, which was obviously Clay. Vickie got upset and did her dance again. Brodus was laughing and mocking her, so she began to get frustrated and started to cry.

Out came William Regal to save Vickie. Ah, I see now, it was a miscue. He consoled her and scolded the audience for booing her. She left and Regal began to follow until Brodus taunted him by asking him if he's funky or a funky chicken. A mild "funky chicken" chant started up. Regal then asked for his music and began to dance. He wasn't half bad! During his dance, Brodus ran across the ropes and hit the cross body splash on Regal. The crowd booed him for this! He then calmed them down and apologized before saying, "Somebody call his momma!"

-- Next, a video played for Stone Cold Steve Austin with a song by George Strait. The video reflects on Austin's career and how he had to ride off into the sunset sooner than he'd like. It plugged his DVD/Blu-Ray.

(3) Wade Barrett beat Sheamus in a tables match. Man oh man, Sheamus is WAY over with the kids! Just about all of them in the arena stood up when his music hit and they did the cross pose when he climbed the turnbuckle. Short, back-and-forth match, which ended when Jinder Mahal ran in and distracted Sheamus, allowing Barrett to throw him into a table propped up in the corner.

Post-match, Jinder set up a table up in the corner, but Sheamus recovered and delivered a Brogue Kick, followed by a running spinebuster into the table to make the crowd happy.

-- A video package aired on "Tribute to the Troops." They showed WWE personnel with two flags, an American and a Mexican. Hmmm.

(4) Ted DiBiase beat Hunco in a flag match. DiBiase was out first to a mild reaction, and Hunico came out on the back of a fancy low-rider bicycle, which made me laugh pretty hard. The ring crew had difficulty putting up the Mexican flag and, before they actually had it secure, the bell rang. False start! They secured the flag and the ref motioned for the bell again. During the match, there were a few nice spots, including a powerbomb off the second turnbuckle by Hunico and an electric chair drop from DiBiase. The match ended with DiBiase hitting Dream Street and grabbing the American flag. Huge pop for finish.

-- Backstage, Drew McIntyre was talking with Teddy Long. Teddy told Drew that last week was three strikes and, he's sorry, but Drew is fired. Drew pleaded with Teddy, but Teddy wasn't listening. Santino then walked up and said since he is the official assistant to the General Manager of Smackdown, he wants Teddy to give "Drew Macintosh" once last chance. He said Drew and some others saw his win last week as luck or a fluke, and he wants to prove it was no fluke. Teddy agreed and Drew looked happy. The wheel was spun and it landed on a Blindfold match. Drew said he'll see Santino out there and walked off, which made Santino laugh because it's a Blindfold match.

In the ring, Santino came out with his Cobra Arm sock already on. The ref put a blindfold on Drew, then tried to place one on Santino, but Santino stopped the ref and pulled out a little blindfold from his tights. He placed it on his hand for the Cobra, which drew laughs from the crowd.

(5) Santino beat Drew McIntyre in a Blindfold match. Santino did the point/crowd cheer to help him try to find Mr. Macintosh. Drew knocked him outside and backed up into the turnbuckle post, which he mistook for Santino and clotheslined it. Ouch! Then, he got back in the ring, as does Marella. The ref checked on Marella and Drew lifted his hood to peek. He then ran at Santino with a high kick, but Santino had crouched down to tap the mat with his hand in hopes of finding Drew. This left Drew crotched on the ropes. Santino then signaled for the Cobra and nailed it for the win.

-- Out next were the lumberjacks for the World Title main event. There were 17 lumberjacks (editor's note: for all 17 WWE writers!) The jacks included Reks, Hawkins, Kidd, Yoshi, Beretta, Epico, Primo, Usos, Hunico, Camacho, Drew, Ezekiel Jackson, DiBiase, Barrett, Sheamus, and Jinder, I believe. Then, Mark Henry came out to a decent crowd reaction. Daniel Bryan made his way out to a chorus of boos again.

(6) World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan vs. Mark Henry went to a No Contest in a Lumberjack match; Bryan retained the World Title. Bryan desperately tried to get in some Superman punches, and was continually shoved aside by Henry. Henry tossed him across the ring hard about 4-5 times and stood on him. Bryan was thrown out of the ring twice and he antagonized the lumberjacks both times. Eventually, Henry was outside the ring and Bryan, from inside the ring, started kicking at the lumberjacks as they were trying to put Henry back in the ring. This caused a huge brawl and everyone stormed the ring. Bryan used this to grab his belt and hightail it out of there. No official announcement was made, but the match was a No Contest. End Taping.

***

The crowd started to leave until Teddy Long's music hit. He says Daniel Bryan will face Big Show in a Steel Cage match!

Out came Big Show to a huge pop. He was very over with the entire crowd and threw his beanie to a fan. Bryan then came out again to boos. The steel cage looked pretty flimsy, of note. Before the bell sounded, Bryan complained to the ref that he's already wrestled, so Big Show took it him to start the match.

Dark Match: World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan beat Big Show in a steel cage match to retain the World Title. Show landed slaps to the chest and, with Bryan down, he stepped on his neck and leaned on him repeatedly. Bryan eventually ducks the WMD punch and Show punched the cage. Bryan then chop-blocked Show and applied a single leg crab. He was in trouble for a bit, but Show powered out of it. Bryan then scrambled up and almost over the cage before Show caught him and grabbed him by the throat. He pulled him back inside and delivered a chokeslam from where Bryan was standing on the second or third rope. Show was about to end the match, but Barrett and Drew ran out and opened the cage door. They beat down Show, then Bryan escaped the cage, winning the match.

Eventually, Sheamus ran out and they miscued his music. He stopped the assault and Show did a double chokeslam before thanking Sheamus. They held their hands up high as the show ended. Lilian then thanked everyone for coming out.
