John Cena told Sports Illustrated that he was proud on Sunday night to be part of selling out Madison Square Garden.

"It's weird, that building has always been, if you make it at MSG, to be on top on the Garden, to work the last match at the Garden. It means everything," he said. "In the ways how our company is changing, fewer and fewer people think like that. We sold out the Garden Sunday. Looking around the locker room and seeing only three or four people appreciate what was going on, that was disappointing. I don't understand it. I don't understand it. When you're a global touring company, you do so many dates, but [MSG] is not just another date."

Keller's Analysis: MSG has been a measuring stick over the years for the health of the business, but it's also important to note that WWE ran MSG more often in the past than they do now, so it was tougher to draw month after month compared to when events are spread out with many months between shows. That said, without a doubt Sunday's sellout was a reason to celebrate and a reason to have pride. Part of the lack of pride in the sellout reflects back on management and top wrestlers such as Cena, though. Wrestlers must feel very disconnected between the success WWE has and their contribution to the product. WWE has worked hard in the last dozen years to make the "machine" work in a way that makes all but a few top wrestlers feel like interchangable parts. If wrestlers felt their pay would be up because of the sellout, they might be more celebratory, but apparently they don't sense that connection exists as past generations did. That reflects on how the company operates and the way they communicate with wrestlers, many of whom went through their developmental system and learned what they know under WWE's umbrella.
