WWE's booking plans are constantly in flux, whether because Vince McMahon changes his mind, certain storylines get shut down, an injury occurs, a strong argument is presented to feature a certain act, or celebrities come in and out of the mix.

WWE tried a program with Charlie Sheen and Daniel Bryan in 2012, but it did not pan out. More recently, WWE tried a program involving Ronda Rousey, but UFC president Dana White says Rousey's WrestleMania 31 appearance was "one and done."

Now, if Floyd Mayweather says he's retiring from boxing in September, does that open the door for Mayweather to help sell tickets for WrestleMania 32 for his second WWE "match," following up on his feud with Big Show at WrestleMania 24?

Mayweather's celebrity friend, pop star Justin Bieber, almost joined the ranks of celebrities involved in WWE programs, according to former WWE Creative writer Kevin Eck. Bieber would have picked up where Mayweather left off with Show, according to a proposed booking idea for Summerslam 2014.

"The idea was that Bieber would team with John Cena and Big Show to face the Wyatt Family in a six-man tag match that would have headlined Summerslam in Los Angeles," Eck wrote on his blog.

Eck noted that he's not sure how close the idea came to actually happening, but the idea was discussed among the booking team "about five months before Summerslam."

The timeline is perhaps the most interesting aspect of the story when looking at how the events from the time of the discussion (around WrestleMania 30) to Summerslam played out.

- John Cena: At WM30, Cena beat Bray Wyatt. Forecasting out five months to Summerslam, it would be reasonable to see Cena in a blow-off match against the Wyatts involving a celebrity to spice things up.

What actually happened was Cena's feud with Wyatt ended at Payback on June 1, Cena won the vacated WWE World Title when Daniel Bryan was stripped of the belt due to injury, and Cena dropped the World Title to Brock Lesnar in a virtual squash at Summerslam. After Summerslam, WWE brought Cena back to TV rather hurriedly and his first match back was ... a victory over Bray Wyatt, who Cena wrapped up his feud with months earlier.

- Bray Wyatt: Bray lost to Cena at WrestleMania, the feud concluded, and Bray ended up in a short-term feud with Chris Jericho.

What actually happened at Summerslam was Bray lost to Jericho with Wyatt Family members Erick Rowan and Luke Harper banned from ringside. Bray then disappeared from TV for a while, the Wyatts dissolved, and all three have gone their separate ways without a conclusion to the story.

- Big Show: At WM30, Show was in the Andre the Giant battle royal, last eliminated by Cesaro.

Five months later, Show could have easily tied in with Justin Bieber for Summerslam based on the Floyd Mayweather connection. However, what actually happened was Big Show did not even make the Summerslam card.

- Brock Lesnar: Lesnar was penciled in to challenge Daniel Bryan for the WWE World Title at Summerslam after breaking The Streak at WM30.

What actually happened was Lesnar beat Cena for the WWE World Title after Bryan was injured and stripped of the title.

In this case, the combination of Bryan's injury, the Bieber idea going away, and WWE needing a big main event for Summerslam led to a switch from the proposed booking idea of Cena & Show & Bieber vs. The Wyatts to a combination of Cena vs. Lesnar and Wyatt vs. Jericho.

- Bieber: Well, Justin Bieber continued to make "headlines for all the wrong reasons," as Eck put it.

But, with WWE recently incorporating Bieber's name into television via taunts to Seth Rollins, is the door open for another attempt to incorporate Bieber into a program? "It certainly wouldn't surprise me to see Bieber do something with WWE at some point," Eck concluded.
