The new "Ask the Specialists" Roundtable is the latest spin-off from the "Ask the Torch" feature. CSI led to CSI: New York and CSI: Miami, which is where you'll find the Specialists tackling a daily topic submitted by PWTorch readers to askpwtorch@gmail.com.

Ask the Specialists Roundtable #7

- Question from PWTorch reader Alejandro Bravo: Is it possible to fix the Sin Cara character? Or, will it go down in history as a modern-day Max Moon?

- "Mr. PPV" Nathan Kyght responds: Well, this Sin Cara has a better chance now of being "fixed" than before as with a new guy in the role, presumably the backstage "attitude problems" have been remedied. Also, with Rey Mysterio's presence being limited (does anyone even remember that he was in the battle royal at WrestleMania?) someone is going to need to fill the ever-important merchandise role of selling masks to kids. Really, it's fairly easy to fix any character - put him in a feud that WWE actually spends some time on, and give him wins.

- "Falls Count Anywhere" Tony Donofrio (@TonyDonofrio) responds: Unfortunately, I don’t think the Sin Cara character can be fixed. I don’t think anyone could’ve imagine that Mistico was going to bomb under the mask. I truly think that if WWE had any faith in reviving the character, they would have put a lot more steam into it with Hunico under the mask.

- "Common Fan" Jimmy Eaton (@TheCommonFan) responds: I think Sin Cara, like any under-utilized talent, can be fixed but the question is if effort will be put forth into it. My guess is no and that he's just a fun performer that WWE wants to use to sell some merch. Having a story would help him as well as some kind of personality, but again, I doubt it will ever get to that point. Max Moon may be a bit of a stretch, but I can see it being known in history as a huge failure.

- "Mr. TV" Justin James (@Justin_M_James) responds: I don't see why Sin Cara would be considered "unfixable." With Hunico under the mask, they can actually have him speak English, and put him in a real feud. If Kofi Kingston and Great Khali can have major shifts in their linguistic skills with no ill effects, so can Sin Cara.

- "Showstopper" Shawn Valentino responds: I was in the arena for Sin Cara's debut in the WWE and it was an electrifying experience. His music had a trance-like effect and his entrance was dazzling. Unfortunately, WWE never marketed him properly and more importantly, the Original Sin Cara was injury-prone and supposedly had attitude issues behind the scenes. He was also consistently botching spots.

At this point, it would be very difficult to fix the Sin Cara character. That being said, I do believe there is room on the roster for one or two masked superstars. I thought it would be cool to have an evil masked lucha wrestler as a foil to the traditional hero. To use a G.I. Joe analogy, it would be like having a Storm Shadow to a Snake Eyes. There is a big Latin market that loves wrestling, and WWE would do well to cater to that demographic. Additionally, kids generally love the masked wrestlers so if they had a few on the roster that are treated seriously, it would add something special to the show.
