RF Video Shoot w/ Kimberly Page
Taped in 2007
By Sean Radican, Torch Columnist
I’m continuing my recent trend with a review of a shoot interview featuring a star in WCW during the Monday Night Wars. RF Video released this shoot with Kimberly Page recently. She comes across well throughout the interview and it sure as heck was nice to look at her compared to the usual cast of characters that appear on RF Video releases. Although she didn’t really go in-depth about many subjects, she had an interesting perspective on the world of wrestling.
The early part of the shoot details Page meeting DDP while she was still in college. Of course, Page talked about the cliché of the smart and attractive girl falling for the charismatic guy with tattoos when detailing why she fell for DDP. Anyway, it was a match made in heaven and they eventually got married and DDP got into the wrestling business.
Things went well from there for Kim, as DDP got her on television as a Diamond Doll and she eventually became a permanent staple of his act. Page never talks about regretting not using her college education and going into wrestling, but it was interesting to listen to her talk about what it was like to be in the locker room. Sensational Sherri taught Page the ropes and she learned quickly about things like respect and how the senior female in the locker room got to do her makeup in the showcase mirror first.
The topic of conversation went back to working at ringside for DDP. Page talked about how DDP had a script (yes, he’s been doing this forever) and that she was supposed to do things at a certain time, but his script was hard to follow, so DDP did the work for both of them in the ring, as he wrestled and gave Page her cues.
Page also talked about how easy it was when she got switched to working with Mark Mero in WCW. She said since he didn’t have a script, she knew when to get involved in the match, as his matches were easier to follow than DDP’s. Page also worked with Kevin Sullivan and Brutus Beefcake during this time, but nothing of any real interests comes out of those segments of the shoot (I can’t imagine going from being a good student in college to being called the Booty Girl for some southern wrasslin’ promotion, but I digress).
Conveniently for both Page and DDP, their neighbor Eric Bischoff rose to power in WCW and both of their careers benefited from that point forward. Page talked in detail about how it was her idea to form the Nitro Girls after watching the Laker Girls perform in Los Angeles. Easy E was game when the idea was presented to him, so Page assembled her own dance troupe, which not surprisingly included one of her friends. Page also talks about having a good day when she found out that Torrie Wilson was making more money than her, which gave her the leverage to get a raise during this portion of the shoot.
The highlight of the shoot is Page’s story about Vince Russo coming to WCW. He put the kibosh on the Nitro Girls and turned Page into a character. One day Russo came to her with the idea to flash her naughty bits at Scott Steiner. Page didn’t want to do this, but Steiner was insistent, as he basically told her he was the reason she was making any money and then called her a c---. That was enough for Page and she went to Eric Bischoff and quit right then and there. She then hilariously claims that DDP got Steiner to apologize to her for his actions in some gym weeks later.
Page talks about her divorce to DDP and living a happy life outside of wrestling. She also talks about her acting stints and the types of roles she’s willing to accept and how she is now living in Utah and works at an art publishing firm. Page definitely has a higher opinion of her acting abilities than most of Hollywood, but at least she’s content doing other things.
Overall thoughts: You would have to be a big fan of Kimberly Page to get satisfaction out of purchasing this release. Page tells some good stories, but doesn’t go into much detail about backstage incidents or other happenings, despite being tight with Eric Bischoff. She is interesting to listen to at times, but this shoot is mostly suited for big fans of DDP or the Nitro Girls.
