RADICAN: Thoughts on recent video "shoot interviews" with Sandman and Missy Hyatt Feb 29, 2008 - 11:15:56 AM
Here are some thoughts on some recent releases I’ve watched…
RF Video Shoot with the Sandman 2007: I really enjoyed this shoot, which was conducted in September of 2007 right after Sandman got his release from the WWE. The shoot covers Sandman’s participation in the first ECW “One Night Stand” PPV in 2005 and goes into detail about his experiences working with WWE up through his release in 2007. Of course, Sandman at times doesn’t have the best memory when it comes to specific details about matches or angles, so his son pokes in here and there to fill in the gaps. After awhile, I thought this kid remembered more things about wrestling than Pat McNeill.
This shoot clocks in at over two hours, but the time goes by like a breeze. Sandman goes into detail about what it is like to be a WWE wrestler and how difficult the lifestyle is. I enjoyed hearing about the insanity of the wrestlers having to show up at the building for shows at 11a.m. and just sit there and not be told what they’re doing until right before the show starts later in the day. I also got a laugh out of how WWE makes all the wrestlers get to the building really early, but doesn’t shoot the pre-tapes until the show has already started. Sandman hilariously details how he was a one take guy, but would have to do upwards of 30 takes for certain backstage promos because the producers didn’t want crowd noise in the background, so seemingly every time Sandman would begin is promo backstage, the crowd would get loud and he’d have to start over again.
Sandman also talks about the wrestlers he worked with at the new ECW on SCI FI and how he would give some of them advice. Sandman is asked at one point if anyone didn’t want his advice and he mentions Ariel having an attitude backstage and thinking she didn’t need any advice. Ariel, who is now in TNA, must have really rubbed Sandman the wrong way because he buried her in this interview and didn’t really have anything bad to say about anyone else that was brought up.
Of course, the subject of Sandman’s release is brought up. Sandman goes into detail about why he originally asked for his release and how he eventually ended up getting it months later after an altercation with Ricky Steamboat on the airplane ride back to America from Africa.
I give this shoot a big thumbs up. Sandman gives his thoughts on most of the top wrestlers on Raw and also goes into detail with his thoughts on the Benoit tragedy. Sandman is one of the best subjects for a shoot interview and this release is definitely worth checking out. You can purchase this DVD here
YouShoot with Missy Hyatt: This is the latest release from Kayfabecommentaries.com, who has been putting out some excellent releases since they broke into the marketplace last year with their Guest Booker series. Missy Hyatt is the second subject for the YouShoot series, which debuted with the Honky Tonk Man late last year. Missy has written a book and done shoot interviews in the past, so Kayfabecommentaries had their hands full when it came to coming up with something original for the outrageous Hyatt to do for a shoot-style interview. Fortunately the YouShoot was a great way for Hyatt to do something that didn’t seemed recycled, as the fans submitted the questions for her to answer via email or video.
This shoot is one of the more outrageous things I’ve seen on video involving a wrestling personality. During the early portion of the questions, Hyatt is asked about how well endowed certain male wrestlers are. To make things even more outrageous, host Sean Oliver has a board with different penis sizes ranging from huge to small that he uses to separate the different male wrestlers by size. Former Torch columnist Mark Madden is even brought up during this segment by Hyatt I wasn’t particularly interested in finding out this information, but if that’s your thing, it’s on here, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Things get more and more outrageous as the shoot goes on, as Oliver brings out a bag filled with various substances and asks Hyatt to name the first wrestler that comes to mind when she sees the substance pulled out of the bag.
Of course since the guys were covered, Oliver sets up a board for Hyatt to name which female wrestlers have real or fake breasts. During this segment, Hyatt also talks about the different females involved and doesn’t have nice things to say about all of them.
I have to give Kayfabecommentaries.com a thumbs up for the concept of the YouShoot series, but I found Hyatt to be too outrageous. This release is definitely not for the week of heart, so proceed with caution if you’re easily offended. You can purchase this release at Kayfabecommentaries.com.
