WWE Night of Champions PPV Report
September 21, 2014
Nashville, Tenn.
Aired on WWE Network
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

Live One-Hour PPV Pre-Show

Scheduled for the pre-show: Christian's "Peep Show" with special guest Chris Jericho.

On the pre-show panel this month is Renee Young with Alex Riley, Booker T, and special guest Big Show. They quickly addressed Roman Reigns being injured and off the PPV. Riley also quickly exaggerated that Reigns could be out of action "for several months." The discussion then shifted to the John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar re-match tonight on the PPV. The crew broke down the rest of the PPV card during the first-half of the pre-show.

Booker T disappeared from the announce table half-way through, then re-appeared for a backstage interview with Goldust. Booker wanted to talk about old times with Goldust, but Goldust said that Goldust is gone. Booker turned serious as "Stardust" Cody Rhodes walked into the interview to talk about the cosmic key held by The Usos. Cody said the key will be theirs tonight.

Back at the studio panel, the panel broke down the Divas Title feud. A.J. Lee then interrupted to run down Nikki Bella and try to play mind-games with Divas champion Paige. A.J. skipped away from the studio panel.

Renee transitioned to the Peep Show, noting Christianh's career has "been put on hold for medical reasons," but they hope to have him back in the ring eventually. Speaking of medical issues, Tom Phillips at the social media lounge continued to play up the idea of Reigns out for "several months." WWE cut to video of Reigns on a hospital bed talking about the sharp pain he felt leading to his emergency surgery. A doctor said Reigns will require "a lengthy recovery." So, they're continuing to push forward with an upgraded recovery time from 1-2 months to out for the year and beyond.

Next was a hype video for John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar in the PPV main event.

Ringside, Michael Cole introduced Jerry Lawler and JBL before Christian's music played. Lilian Garcia introduced Christian back to WWE PPV. On commentary, Cole said this "young man" has put his career on hold for medical reasons, but they hope he returns to action soon. Christian is 40-years-old.

Peep Show Segment

In the ring, Christian said it sounds like there's a lot of Peeps tonight, but it's not about him tonight. He said one of the matches on the PPV has caught his interest and it features two former champions, including his guest, Chris Jericho. Out came Jericho dressed in trunks and a t-shirt. No light-up jacket on the pre-show.

Jericho talked about reuniting with Christian for this segment, then comically drew attention to virtually no props for Christian's talk show. They started arguing about who came up with their tag team name back in the day and who the leader was. Christian said he was the captain; Jericho said he was the general. Christian asked when a general comes to the Peep Show not wearing pants.

Christian said enough with the fun time, then rolled footage from Raw two weeks ago when Randy Orton took out Jericho, setting up their PPV match tonight. Back to Christian, who ran down Orton until Orton interrupted on the video screen. Orton ran down Christian and Jericho, saying he's the reason why Christian cannot compete in the ring again. He said the only show Jericho will be appearing on again after he's done with him tonight is "Total Divas." Jericho said that's the perfect lead-in for "Total Jackass" starring Randy Orton. Jericho then cut a passionate promo on Orton, saying he will never, everrrrr be the same again after tonight. Jericho left the ring to wrap up the pre-show.
