SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Billy Gunn, the NXT trainer and recent Tough Enough coach on WWE TV, was reportedly fired by WWE on Friday.

The firing dates back to events from four months ago when Gunn failed a drug test at a powerlifting meet, reports the Wrestling Observer.

According to the report, Gunn’s testosterone level at the July 25 competition was 37-1, nearly 10 times the allowed limit, causing him to be suspended from powerlifting competition for four years. WWE apparently was not aware of Gunn’s second career or his suspension until recently, prompting the decision to fire him.

The idea is that Gunn cannot effectively coach the NXT talent at the Performance Center if it appears that he blatantly cheated at this competition. Plus, it appears that he tried to hide the suspension from WWE.

The interesting thing about the timing of Gunn’s powerlifting meet is that it was right in the middle of Tough Enough filming. Tough Enough aired from June 23 to August 25 and Gunn was involved in the day-to-day filming hosting challenges and waking up the TE contestants with his infamous bullhorn.

UPDATE: Gunn has already been announced for independent bookings. Preston City Wrestling announced Gunn for their “Roady to Glory 2016” tour on February 5 and 6 in Preston, England.
