SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

WWE star Sheamus says he wasn’t sure what to expect from fans when he returned from injury in 2015 with the new mohawk look. But, he wasn’t expecting the “you look stupid” chants.

“It’s like anything else in the WWE, when something comes along out of the blue you’re kind of like ‘what?’ and then you’re like ‘ahh’ and then it sinks in,” Sheamus told Miami TV entertainment reporter Chris Van Vliet in a new interview promoting the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” movie.

“You have to embrace it because it’s not going to go away. I played up to it and I had some fun with it, plus, I mean, I don’t think I look that stupid.”

The timing was the night after WrestleMania 31 in front of the post-Mania Raw crowd that let Sheamus have it. Sheamus says he just wanted to change up his look to keep his character fresh.

“I knew it was going to be shock. I came back from my shoulder injury and I feel like there’s so much content out there now that you have to continuously try to change your image,” Sheamus said.

“I talked to (Chris) Jericho about that because he’s changed his look. But you have to keep it fresh, you have to change your look. That’s why the beard has changed as well. You’re constantly changing bits and pieces so it always feels fresh.”

Sheamus’s co-star in TMNT2, Gary Anthony Williams, tried to give Sheamus a pep-talk that maybe the crowd was complimenting him, like “stupid” as a good thing.

Also notable is Sheamus is booked for the Irish movie premiere of TMNT2. The premiere is next Wednesday, June 1 at the Savoy Cinema in Dublin.

The gag about other uses of “stupid” finished off the interview below.
