TNA president Dixie Carter traveled to India this week to promote TNA’s TV presence in the country and shore up TNA’s TV deal with Sony Six.
Carter’s arrival drew ample local media attention since pro wrestling’s popularity is exploding in India right now. (WWE captured this in a recent survey showing that India has the highest affinity for pro wrestling in the world.)
The International Business Times talked to Carter about recruiting new talent from India to join Shera on the TNA roster.
Carter is especially interested in seeing which amateur wrestlers from India perform well in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
“People in India love their sport. They love wrestling along with cricket and football. The history of amateur wrestling is also so significant in the country, along with the sport’s heritage and the culture. There could be one or two wrestlers from India who could make it to the professional scene,” Carter said.
“I would love to find a female pro wrestler from India. That would be an incredible addition to our roster. Women have been an integral part of pro wrestling since its inception. To find a truly talented female wrestler from India would just be a sheer dream.”
