WWE is in the process of re-naming this year’s Night of Champions PPV as “Clash of Champions,” using the title for the old NWA/WCW TV specials.

WWE’s events page is now listing the September 25 event as “WWE Clash of Champions,” while still using the Night of Champions logo.

The same is true for Ticketmaster, which is listing “Clash of Champions” tickets for Sept. 25 at Bankerslife Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, while all other marketing is still listing “Night of Champions.”

The arena website is still listing everything as Night of Champions.

WWE set the change in motion earlier this month when the company filed five trademarks for “Clash of Champions.” The trademarks filed on June 10 are for the purposes of trademarking the live event, marketing, and merchandising.

Meanwhile, former WWE star Cody Rhodes weighed in on WWE now using one of the titles thought of by his father, Dusty Rhodes.

“I’m not in the slightest bit perturbed,” Rhodes tweeted, “a new audience gets to feel clash. I hope all of Dream’s originals eventually return. Havoc, Bash, Cade’ and of course the war games.”
