SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

To apply wrestling terminology to C.M. Punk’s UFC debut fight, Punk got squashed in two minutes.

In a special attraction fight Saturday night at UFC 203, Punk lost to Mickey Gall at the 2:14 mark of the first round.

Gall took down Punk early in the fight, then applied pressure before forcing Punk to tap out to a rear-naked choke.

Punk landed virtually no offense in the fight and tried to keep the fight going before ultimately being forced to tap out.

Punk’s two-year odyssey from walking out on WWE in January 2014 in Cleveland to walking into UFC nearly two years later in Cleveland will probably be remembered more for the pre-fight activity.

Punk walked out to his WWE theme “Cult of Personality” to a big reaction. Punk was all-smiles enjoying the moment and soaking up the atmosphere of making it to his UFC debut fight.

But, it was all for nought, as Punk was dominated in two minutes.

Punk said in pre-fight interviews that he was in UFC for the long haul, but the decisive loss puts his future in question.

  1. Punk’s biggest issue was he nearly killed himself with the weight cut. He admitted to being over 200lbs a week prior to the fight.. That’s hard enough on seasoned fighters not somebody whos never had to do it before.. Honestly I thought Punk was fighting too low for his size especially given most guys are going up in weight classes generally as they get older.. Punk needs to re-evaluate and consider fighting at 185 if he’s serious about this.. I don’t think 170 is healthy or viable for him honestly..
