SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Nine years after retiring the original Cruiserweight Title, WWE relaunched the Cruiserweight division Monday night on Raw.

However, Cruiserweight Tournament winner and new CW champion T.J. Perkins was not part of the event.

Instead, WWE highlighted four non-tournament winners and put them in a #1 contender match to determine who would face Perkins for the CW Title at the Clash of Champions PPV.

Brian Kendrick won the #1 contender match over Rich Swann, Cedric Alexander, and Gran Metalik, sending Kendrick to a singles match against Perkins on Sunday.

Perkins’s only involvement on Raw was being interviewed on the WWE Network Raw pre-show about winning the Cruiserweight tournament and title.
