Dear Wrestling Fan,
Thanks for clicking to find out Why We Are Different...
Over the past five years or so, many alternative sources of pro wrestling information have popped up on the Internet. Almost none of them have roots in pro wrestling reporting pre-dating the start of their websites in the 2000s. Pro Wrestling Torch dates back to a newsletter I established back in 1987. Now, I'm the last person to say a young person or inexperienced person cannot contribute to the larger body of wrestling reporting and commentary on pro wrestling since I began publishing the Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter when I was just 16. However, sadly, many of the upstart websites and reporters have used methods to establish themselves that are flat out dishonest.
Some of the techniques used by so many of the upstart websites includes flat out stealing news from us and the few other reputable sources of original wrestling news. They sometimes credit the source, sometimes not. They sometimes re-report what we've reported accurately, sometimes not. Sometimes, they steal the info and "hide" it in their "premium" pay sections without giving any credit in order to build up their false image as true insiders.
Some of the websites use deceptive headlines at the end of their articles to get you to click on an affiliate website. You'll find nothing related to the "teaser" on the website you are taken to, but your computer might be infected with a virus.
There are even websites that, without any permission, post complete articles from PWTorch.com on their website.
In many cases, the websites are run by budding entrepreneurs who love wrestling, but aren't mature enough to build their sources in a legitimate fashion. Other top-ranked sites are run by individuals or companies who know nothing about pro wrestling, but hire kids to steal news. That's not us. I started by going to indy shows, learning about how wrestling operatated, getting to know wrestlers as people and professionals. I travelled the country to dozens of cities to watch big-time wrestling events and hussled to get interviews with big name legends. I introduced myself, shook hands, made eye contact, and got to really know and understand the industry. I devoured any source of information on wrestling history that I could. I tried to understand and respect the industry, while calling out those who gave it bad a name or cheated or wronged others in the industry and the fans.
What PWTorch brings to the table is experience and integrity when it comes to reporting news. We will always provide you with a source of where our news is derived. We won't make up news; we don't have to.
I also bring to the table formal training with a journalism degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. I interned at KMSP-TV, a major news station in Minneapolis/St. Paul. I also produced and hosted a weekly Pro Wrestling Focus radio show on KFAN, a 50,000 watt major all-sports radio station in the early 1990s. My experience in print, TV, and radio, along with formal journalism training at both Macalester College and the University of St. Thomas sets apart the philosophy, the ethics, and the methodology of how we approach coverage of pro wrestling at PWTorch.
Just as importantly, with over 20 years experience covering pro wrestling, you're not getting "guesses" or "fake analysis," but rather informed, time-tested analysis of this complex, fascinating industry. Our staff of columnists range in age from late-20s to late-40s. We are household names within the walls of wrestling headquarters.
I have met and had in-person discussions about pro wrestling with almost every major wrestler and promoter in this industry from Vince McMahon to Jim Herd, from Gabe Sapolsky to Jeff Jarrett, from Undertaker to Steve Austin, from Lou Thesz to Pat Patterson, from The Rock to Ric Flair, from Hulk Hogan to Samoa Joe, from Gordon Solie to Jim Ross, from Harley Race to Lou Thesz, from Mike Tenay to Joey Styles, from Superstar Graham to Bruno Sammartino, from Rey Mysterio to Ricky Steamboat, from Eric Bischoff to Paul Heyman, from Jim Cornette to Vince Russo, from Verne Gagne to Cary Silken, from Jeff Hardy to Arn Anderson, and even Tank Abbott and Dana White.
I am not a website editor who began his career behind a computer screen and never left his desk chair. I meet the people I write about face-to-face; I learn from those discussions and encounters. I am not a website editor whose knowledge base is limited to scraping the top surface off of what other websites report. That difference comes through in the Daily Keller Hotline, my BBL editorials, my Torch Newsletter cover stories, my analysis of the weekly news stories on the Main Listing, in my Torch Talk interviews - throughout all of my work with PWTorch. I am also the only lead editor of a major website who covers every major TV show and PPV online with complete detailed reports. We have other TV reports by staff members and correspondents to provide multiple perspectives on every TV show.
That difference is also apparent with the best team of writers on the web. Columnists Bruce Mitchell, Pat McNeill, James Caldwell, and Sean Radican have also travelled the country as Torch staffers, attended major wrestling events with media credentials and attended small indy shows on a regular basis to stay in touch with the grassroots aspects of the industry. That experience is apparent in their work.
There are many options for your wrestling information on the web. Pro Wrestling Torch is a legacy brand name, highly-regarded by those in the know, and a target of those looking to take short-cuts to get ahead and "pretend" they are in the same leageue when it comes to experience, when it comes to knowledge, when it comes to the wisdom to cut to the chase of what the latest big story really means, when it comes to being a face recognized at wrestling events by the movers and shakers of this industry, when it comes to standing the test of time with unmatched coverage of the biggest stories over the years from Vince McMahon's federal steroid trial in New York to the WWF buyout of WCW to the Benoit Family Tragedy.
We hope if you haven't been a subscriber before to PWTorch, that you'll try our service. We believe we have unmatched benefits. New websites run by teenagers and college kids with web design knowledge, a Pay Pal business account, and a desire to make a buck sprout up seemingly every month touting themselves as having the "inside story." Our susbcribers know they get not only today's inside story, but a backlog of 20 years of inside stories and top-tier analysis of all of those big stories. We've been around and stood the test of time for a reason. Find out why we are more than a level above the competitors by becoming a VIP subscriber today.
Sincerely,
Wade Keller, PWTorch editor
