For long-time wrestling fans, one moment in the 2011 Royal Rumble felt like 1994 all over again. When the old Diesel music hit, Kevin Nash received one of the loudest reactions that any wrestler is likely to hear all year.
If you have a soft spot for “Big Daddy Cool” or the New World Order and are looking to add a piece of Kevin Nash memorabilia to your collection, there are plenty of options.
Nash has been featured in a variety of trading card sets, dating back to the 1994 and 1995 WWF sets by Action Packed.
Nash’s most popular card is his certified autograph from the 1998 Topps WCW/NWO set. This historic set featured crisp, clean, on-card autographs, which is somewhat of a rarity for wrestling trading cards; most of the sets produced in the last decade incorporate stickers that the wrestlers have signed. If you’re hoping to add this card to your collection, be ready to spend; it’ll likely cost you $75-100.
If you’re not looking to spend that much, there are plenty of cool Nash cards out there that feature autographs or pieces of shirts he’s worn. TRISTAR has included him in most of its TNA sets dating back to 2008, and a plain autograph can usually be found for $10 or less. Nash has also signed several limited edition cards with different inscriptions; his 2008 TRISTAR TNA Cross the Line Autograph with a “Big Sexy” inscription usually can be found for about $20.
Nash has also been paired up with several other legendary wrestlers for different multi-autograph cards, including Sting, Samoa Joe, and Hulk Hogan, among others.
Nash also has one of the coolest and most unique wrestling cards ever made. In TRISTAR’s 2010 TNA Icons set, a special card was produced that featured Nash’s autograph as well as inscriptions noting several of his past incarnations, including Oz, Master Blaster, Vinnie Vegas, and Super Shredder, the character he played in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze.” Obviously missing from this card is any mention of “Big Daddy Cool” or Diesel.
If you’re looking for something really unique, try tracking down a baseball signed by Nash. TRISTAR inserted redemption cards for autographed memorabilia in its 2008 Cross the Line product; one of these was a baseball signed by Nash with a “Big Sexy” inscription, with only 12 of these made. Nash is a well-known collector of sports memorabilia, and has a signed baseball from each player to ever hit 500 home runs.
If you’re looking for an action figure, Jakks Pacific has produced several quality toys of Nash over the years, both as part of its WWE Classics line and the more recent TNA line. For the WWE Classics line of figures, Jakks included figures of Nash both as Diesel and as “Big Sexy” from his NWO days; you can probably find a used figure on eBay for $5-10, but a figure that’s still packaged will cost you more.
Also, be sure to check your local Walgreens for a more recent Nash figure that you might find for a bargain. In 2010, Jakks produced a series of TNA figures that were similar to its popular Ruthless Aggression line of figures that were made through 2009. These TNA figures initially were sold for three for $15, but many Walgreens stores have started marking these down to clearance them out; you’re likely to find one for $3 or so.
If you’re looking for a retro poster or t-shirt, there are plenty out there. Several “Diesel Power” t-shirts began popping up online right after the Rumble, and there have been an abundance of NOW shirts ever since WCW shut down.
Keep an eye on wweshop.com as well. With Nash reportedly set to sign a new Legends contract with WWE, there will likely be plenty of new Diesel items available in the near future.
