The following are news and notes and observations from Sunday's SportsRadio 610 Fanfest in Houston hosted at the University of Houston Alumni Center.

Ross & Lawler Q&A

-- The top newsworthy item revealed during the Q&A was Jerry Lawler saying Vince McMahon was upset by WWE ranking the "Top 50 WWE Superstars of All-Time" in the recent DVD release. The idea was just to list 50 stars, but not do a 1-50 ranking to avoid ruffling feathers.

Ross and Lawler got into a discussion about how to rank the #1 star, as it depends on the criteria. Ross said it's "Stone Cold" Steve Austin if looking at total business, Shawn Michaels or Ric Flair if looking at in-ring, and then even Lawler if looking at longevity to still be able to wrestle a good match.

-- Ross was asked if any Developmental wrestlers have stood out to him as potential future top WWE stars. Ross said he does not want to name names to avoid excluding wrestlers, but he said he is "very happy and motivated to be involved in the process to see guys get their opportunity."

Ross noted they held a try-out camp this week with about 20 men and five women. Ross said the FCW staff had an individual blind vote to determine who gets offered a Developmental contract.

-- Jerry Lawler was asked what John Cena is like. After calling him a "great guy" and ambassador WWE, Lawler brought up Cena's forthcoming divorce. "If anybody says anything bad about John Cena, it's probably a lie...other than his future ex-wife."

-- Ross compared the WrestleMania 17 and 25 PPVs in Houston, noting WM17 was top-to-bottom the better card, and WM25 had the stellar match of Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker. Ross noted he followed the Houston Oilers growing up and was thrilled to call WM17 in The Astrodome after not being able to attend an Oilers game living in Oklahoma.

-- Lawler said he was approached by many people at CMA Awards events in Nashville this week commenting on Monday's Raw with the John Cena vs. Michael Cole main event. Lawler said those people thought it was the greatest thing they had ever seen on Raw. Lawler was making a point related to the Top 50 Superstars list that the quality of wrestling is subjective and can differ from person to person.

-- Lawler noted he would be traveling to Monday's Raw in Hartford, Conn. following the Q&A. It was not brought up whether Ross will be part of the 1,000th Raw next month.

-- The Q&A opened with Lawler and Ross discussing how they got started in wrestling. Lawler recapped his comic/artwork for Memphis Wrestling before having his first match as a teenager. Ross deadpanned that he was a male stripper, then decided to go a different route with his career. In actuality, Ross said he listened to KMOX's broadcasts of St. Louis Cardinals games growing up and decided he wanted to get into broadcasting, which then led to him getting involved in wrestling.

-- Check back for Video Clips from the Q&A Sunday night/Monday morning.

Other Fanfest Notes

-- Update: The Houston Chronicle published a photo gallery of pictures from the Fanfest, including Ross & Lawler at Chron.com .

-- The autograph line for Ross and Lawler rivaled the top draw, Heisman Trophy winner/former NFL star Earl Campbell. Ross claimed on Twitter afterward, "King & I had the longest line. Earl Campbell #2. That's our story & sticking 2 it!" Ross & Lawler and Campbell were certainly the Top 2, but the order is up for debate.

-- Surveying the crowd in Ross & Lawler's line, I spotted a lot of Attitude Era t-shirts, one Daniel Bryan t-shirt, several John Cena t-shirts worn by kids-of-Attitude-Era fans, and some generic WWE live event t-shirts.

-- I talked to former New England Patriots star Ted Johnson about his work in concussion research on the NFL side. Johnson noted he's close friends with former WWE wrestler Chris Nowinski, and is getting more involved in concussion research through his relationship with Nowinski.

-- I chatted with long-time Houston Chronicle columnist David Barron, who noted he has the PWTorch App (available in every major smartphone store!), and has covered wrestling in Houston for decades going back to the Paul Boesch era.

-- Who says Longhorns and Sooners can't get along? Former Texas RB Fozzy Whittaker tweeted a photo with Jim Ross from the Fanfest.
