WWE Elimination Chamber PPV results
February 23, 2014
Minneapolis, Minn. at the Target Center
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor
The Elimination Chamber pre-game show started with Josh Mathews introducing the show from a new set. Mark Henry, newlywed The Miz, and masked Rey Mysterio were shown at the studio set. Rey and Miz sounded very confident in the role.
Off to the "social media lounge" for a word from Renee Young.
Backstage: Zeb Colter delivered a message on behalf of Jack Swagger and Cesaro.
Ringside: JBL, Michael Cole, and Jerry Lawler were introduced to the announce position.
WWE Network video: WWE re-aired the flight-themed video on connected devices for the WWE Network, as narrated by the Bella Twins. Back to ringside, the announce trio hyped the Network and demonstrated how to use it when it launches tomorrow.
In-ring: Rhodes Bros. were introduced to the ring for the pre-show match. Ryback was out next by himself, then Curtis Axel came out with Larry "the Axe" Hennig in Axel's home market of Minneapolis.
A - CODY RHODES & GOLDUST vs. CURTIS AXEL (w/Larry "the Axe" Hennig) & RYBACK
The announcers talked up Larry's historical contributions to wrestling, then the Rhodes Bros. cleared the heels to the outside. Cross-fire double splashes to Axel and Ryback sent the match to break with the Rhodes Bros. controlling.
Back from break, a fired-up Axel worked on Goldust while Larry looked on approvingly from ringside. Cole talked up footage of "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig being available on the Network, then Ryback tagged in and continued to work on Goldust. Goldust dumped Ryback over the top rope to the floor, then tagged in Cody, who dropped Axel with the Alabama Slam. But, Ryback pulled Cody to the floor. No matter, as Cody gave Ryback the Disaster Kick on the outside.
Back in the ring, Axel blocked a top-rope missile dropkick for a two count. Axel then teased the Perfectplex, which popped the Minneapolis crowd, but Goldust broke it up. Cody then caught Axel with Cross Rhodes. It was good for the pin and the win. "No!" Larry shouted ringside. Cole noted the Rhodes Bros. needed this victory tonight. Larry then tried to give his grandson a pep talk as he recovered.
WINNERS: Rhodes Bros. at 8:55. Basic tag match. Larry's ringside presence was a treat.
Backstage: The Usos vowed to win the WWE Tag Titles from the New Age Outlaws. Interviewer Byron Saxton tried to act convinced.
Social Media Lounge: Renee Young read off some tweets.
Pre-Show Panel: Josh Mathews gave a final sell for the Chamber PPV, then asked for final thoughts from Henry, Miz, and Mysterio to close the pre-show. Rey picked Cesaro to win the Chamber, Henry picked Sheamus, and Miz picked Daniel Bryan.
