WWE Raw TV News & Notes 4/4

Raw the night after WrestleMania included several developments…

– Shane McMahon was put in charge of Raw for the night despite losing his stipulation match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania. Vince McMahon opened the show by noting he took care of the lockbox Shane was holding over his head, then Shane came out to accept defeat. However, Vince was not satisfied with Shane trying to upstage him, so he gave Shane one night to be in charge of Raw. Vince then left the building not wanting to witness the show going down the drain.

– A.J. Styles became #1 contender to the WWE World Title by winning a fatal four-way match against Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, and a returning Cesaro.

Cesaro replaced Sami Zayn, who was taken out by Owens in the backstage area before the match.

New WWE World champion Roman Reigns interacted verbally with Styles, Jericho, Zayn, and Owens in a mid-ring promo that set up the #1 contender match. Reigns was booed throughout his appearance, then did not appear again after talking to Shane in a backstage segment.

– WrestleMania headliners Triple H (and Stephanie McMahon), Brock Lesnar, Dean Ambrose, and The Undertaker did not appear on Raw. Hunter will likely stake a claim to the WWE Title after losing the title to Reigns on Sunday.

Also, John Cena did not appear on Raw after making his WWE TV return to help out The Rock at WrestleMania.

– Zack Ryder dropped the Intercontinental Title to The Miz the night after winning the title in the seven-way IC Title ladder match. Miz took advantage of a distraction by his wife, former WWE Diva Maryse, to win the title.

Miz vs. Ryder in a title re-match is advertised for this week’s Smackdown. Maryse is advertised with Miz, implying an at least a short-term WWE TV return for Maryse.

After losing the title at WrestleMania, former IC champion Kevin Owens said he is moving on to the WWE Title. But, he lost the fatal four-way #1 contender match in the main event.

– The League of Nations kicked out King Barrett from the group, setting up Barrett’s departure from WWE. The League (Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, and Rusev) were then attacked by The Wyatts.

– WWE called up several NXT acts. Baron Corbin was officially introduced on the main roster after winning the Andre the Giant Battle Royal at WrestleMania, Apollo Crews was called up for a decisive introductory victory over former NXT wrestler Tyler Breeze, Enzo Amore & Big Cass confronted The Dudleys, and The Vaudevillians are scheduled to make their debut on this week’s Smackdown.

– WWE repackaged Los Matadores. Primo & Epico were reintroduced with a Puerto Rico theme inviting everyone to come visit their island.

– The new WWE Women’s Title was formally introduced on Raw. Lita reappeared as the emcee of events turning the belt over to Women’s champion Charlotte. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch, who was sporting a big cut over her eye from the WrestleMania match, continued their feud with Charlotte.

Natalya also asserted herself as a future challenger to Charlotte once the entire women’s division roster left the ring when Charlotte acted cocky about her position. Natalya tried to put Charlotte in the Sharpshooter when she insulted the Hart Family, but Ric Flair rescued his daughter.

Within the segment, Becky Lynch appeared on Raw with a big cut over her left eye suffering in the Women’s Title match at WM32.

– WWE announced that Dr. Phil will guest-star on next Monday’s Raw from Los Angeles.
