WWE Smackdown Live News & Notes 9/13

– John Cena returned to WWE TV to join Dean Ambrose as the next challengers to new WWE World Hvt. champion A.J. Styles.

Cena and Ambrose then beat Styles and IC champ The Miz in the main event. Ambrose, who cut a promo on Cena in the opening segment, ended the night giving Cena his Dirty Deeds finisher.

WWE is positioning Ambrose in a tweener role in-between Cena and Styles.

– WWE continued the IC Title feud between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler, likely leading to a re-match at the No Mercy PPV.

– WWE continued the Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt feud, now involving Erick Rowan, who sneak-attacked Orton. But, Orton ended Rowan with an RKO.

– Alexa Bliss won a #1 contender’s match to face Becky Lynch for the Women’s Title at No Mercy.

– Heath Slater & Rhyno made their first WWE Tag Title defense. Slater signed his Smackdown Live contract after they won the Tag Title tournament at Backlash on Sunday.

The Ascension interrupted Slater & Rhyno’s celebration, then Slater & Rhyno beat Konnor & Viktor in an impromptu match to retain the WWE Tag Titles.

– Jack Swagger joined the Smackdown roster after his “Raw contract” expired. Swagger picked a fight with Baron Corbin.

– Curt Hawkins made his in-person return to Smackdown. However, it was a pre-taped vignette doing live reads of “Hawkins Facts” with zany camera shots.
