SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by his old wXw commentary partner Jeremy Graves for the May edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. This time around the guys were treated to shows that would have needed three days to give the detail they warrant, but you’ll have to settle for three hours! There was so much to talk about. There’s no surprise when it comes to a 2000 Nitro; it’s going to be a mile a minute and this “FUBAR”/”FUNB” era episode barely stayed on the tracks as it raced through a million angles and developments over the course of the show. Flair family drama, Falkinburg family drama, and Hogan family drama are just the start as we also see Sting and Vampiro with their weird relationship, Lex Luger’s latest disguise, and vehicles… so many vehicles. Things are a lot more low key in the studios of Memphis wrestling back in 1985 but no less noteworthy. The episode in question sees us get very well acquainted with orator extraordinaire Mr. Kareem Muhammed, as he takes over the show and ruffles quite a few feathers. Summer is around the corner and the outdoors awaits, but it’s okay to relax on the couch for a bit and check out what’s on the telly with us!

Our other show for this month was as Japan as Japan gets with the first episode of DDT Live Maji Manji from 2018, featuring the likes of Takeshita, Ueno, and Mao in the early part of their careers and your DDT staples like Harashima, Mad Paulie(!), and yes, Danshoku Dino. An empty arena main event, Beer Money hitting their stride, authority figure org charts, and even some out-of-character personality profiles. Alan and Garrett talk it all with plenty of fun along the way. Thankfully, Alan’s pick wasn’t as intensive a show so this thing could stay under three hours! That’s not to say it wasn’t a fascinating watch. On the morning of In Your House Final Four, there was a special episode of WWF Superstars hosted by Jim Ross and Dok Hendrix recapping Shawn Michaels losing his smile and looking ahead to Bret vs. Austin vs. Undertaker vs. Vader. All the moving parts of early 1997 in the World Wrestling Federation are on show and give us plenty to analyze. As New Year’s approached on TBS in ’85, fans were treated to a lovely show filled with elite level promos, timeless characters, and two incredible matches pitting Ole Anderson vs. Magnum T.A., and Ric Flair against Ron Garvin. Fast forward to TNT in ’99 and viewers were punished with something that spent three hours vomiting all over the legacy of pro wrestling – a truly abhorrent show, but thankfully one that was ideal to talk to Dr. Keith about. We look at his breakthrough bouts in the U.S. during the summer of ’02, his importance to the UK scene, and his lesser known work in Japan for Michinoku Pro, where he mixed it up with some of the greatest of all time. It wasn’t just his high flying that made Jody special, and Alan examines everything else he brought to the table and looks back at how impactful Fleisch was to a new wave of wrestling fans at the time.
