After an unforgettable classic to end the G1, Ryohei Oiwa and Yuya Uemura’s efforts deserved a detailed breakdown, and they get it here with nearly 40 minutes of analysis about everything they did in their match and the macro impact it should/may have on pro wrestling and New Japan specifically. After going in depth on the match, Alan discusses where it ranks historically amongst the best bouts. Then with the G1 in the rear view, it was time to start catching up on other wrestling, and there’s a lot! Good and bad from the world of AEW (and ROH) as they march towards Wembley, some excellent Joshi as Chihiro Hashimoto builds her legacy, tournaments in All Japan and Dragongate, and there’s even time for a from-the-vault rec from 1988! After all that fun, the last half hour of the show is a little more on the serious side and reserved for some words about a fallen friend. RIP, Rovey.

Alan and Gareth break down the way they approached that three-hour show, analyze how they told the story during the course of the evening, and look at how it affected the other matches and performers on the show. But first, a trip to the Smoky Mountains in 1994, where things may not have been as grandiose but there was tension aplenty with the debut of the Gangstas, people getting jumped in car parks, and even labor union strikes! From its inception as a breakaway from Michinoku Pro in 1999 through spinoffs, closures, and rebirths, Osaka Pro has always provided a charming alternative form of wrestling molded by the vision of founder Super Delfin. Staying true to its local roots all the way, the promotion spawned a flavor of wrestling which was uniquely its own but would inspire companies and wrestlers worldwide, most notably Chikara Pro. Alan and Joe discuss the many staple Osaka Pro characters from mascots Ebessan and Kuishinbo Kamen to heel linchpins Dick Togo and Big Boss Magma, and all the colorful characters along the way. There aren’t many promotions where you could have seen a diminutive kickboxer have a four-star match with a baseball playing buffalo, but if that’s what you needed in your wrestling diet, Osaka was the place to go. That said, the shows had some similarities in structure. Both featured an array of showcase matches, although with very different crews of talent (The Wrecking Crew of ’93 don’t quite measure up to the Minnesota Wrecking Crew of ’85), and both had big name competitive main events. For NWA on TBS, Magnum TA put $1,000 on the line to get “Nature Boy” Ric Flair in the ring, and on WCW Power Hour, Ricky Steamboat was the lucky recipient of a shot at Big Van Vader’s title in a “Computerised Contender Challenge.” Alan and Conor compare and contrast, and give you their thoughts on all the stars (and non-stars) that popped up. This time around the guys were treated to shows that would have needed three days to give the detail they warrant, but you’ll have to settle for three hours! There was so much to talk about. There’s no surprise when it comes to a 2000 Nitro; it’s going to be a mile a minute and this “FUBAR”/”FUNB” era episode barely stayed on the tracks as it raced through a million angles and developments over the course of the show. Flair family drama, Falkinburg family drama, and Hogan family drama are just the start as we also see Sting and Vampiro with their weird relationship, Lex Luger’s latest disguise, and vehicles… so many vehicles. Things are a lot more low key in the studios of Memphis wrestling back in 1985 but no less noteworthy. The episode in question sees us get very well acquainted with orator extraordinaire Mr. Kareem Muhammed, as he takes over the show and ruffles quite a few feathers. Summer is around the corner and the outdoors awaits, but it’s okay to relax on the couch for a bit and check out what’s on the telly with us!

An empty arena main event, Beer Money hitting their stride, authority figure org charts, and even some out-of-character personality profiles. Alan and Garrett talk it all with plenty of fun along the way. Thankfully, Alan’s pick wasn’t as intensive a show so this thing could stay under three hours! That’s not to say it wasn’t a fascinating watch. On the morning of In Your House Final Four, there was a special episode of WWF Superstars hosted by Jim Ross and Dok Hendrix recapping Shawn Michaels losing his smile and looking ahead to Bret vs. Austin vs. Undertaker vs. Vader. All the moving parts of early 1997 in the World Wrestling Federation are on show and give us plenty to analyze. Alan and Tom take you through the whole show and everything going on in the build-up to nWo’s Souled Out PPV. Before that, Tom gives us all a lesson on the wild character that was “Honey Love” as we see what Mr. Nashville Wrestling was getting up to in ’99 with a roster that…well, let’s just say it lacked depth. As New Year’s approached on TBS in ’85, fans were treated to a lovely show filled with elite level promos, timeless characters, and two incredible matches pitting Ole Anderson vs. Magnum T.A., and Ric Flair against Ron Garvin. Fast forward to TNT in ’99 and viewers were punished with something that spent three hours vomiting all over the legacy of pro wrestling – a truly abhorrent show, but thankfully one that was ideal to talk to Dr. Keith about. So fetch yourself a mince pie, pour your Christmas drink of choice, and huddle up by the fire as we check out what’s on the telly one last time in 2025!

There will probably be a lot of Eddie talk this month, with the 20 year anniversary of his passing, and with that in mind this show takes the road less traveled and discusses Eddie through the prism of four matches, most of which are very much under the radar. Alan and Case dig through the Guerrero crates and pull out matches featuring the likes of B. Brian Blair, Tatsumi Fujinami, Fuerza Guerrera, and some guy called Dwayne. Using these matches, the guys highlight some of Eddie’s lesser talked about skills and qualities that made him such a world class wrestler. This isn’t just match recaps, though, as there’s a branch-off to a deeper discussion of modern wrestling and its relationship with Eddie, cultural shifts affecting the business, and a bonus surprise segment for Case where we spotlight one of the rising stars of Dragongate – Ryoya Tanaka. This is a seriously packed two hours!

This month we got our satellite out to tune into Gaora and watch a Dragon Gate Infinity from arguably the company’s best year – 2011. It’s Masaaki Mochizuki vs. Akira Tozawa for the Dream Gate, and Shingo Takagi vs. Brodie Lee as we’re in the thick of the Blood Warriors vs. Junction 3 feud. From there, the clock is turned back a further six years to 2005 and we stretch the rules of the show a tiny bit to talk about CZW from the “CZW” Arena and also from a weird junkyard as we are truly treated to the good, the bad, and the ugly of mid-2000s indy wrestling.
