Welcome back to another edition of my Hits &amp; Misses column for AEW Collision! I initially planned to put as much effort into this column as AEW put into this week\u2019s episode of Collision, but having already written words, I\u2019ve done too much.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NO COLD OPEN \u2014 MISS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lack of cold in this open left me with heat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>JACK PERRY HOLDS A FUNERAL FOR THE FTW TITLE \u2014 MINOR MISS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taz literally invented this title out of whole cloth. \u201cEnding its legacy\u201d makes no sense. Taz could easily just declare Jack Perry\u2019s abdication of the FTW Title a vacancy and create an all-new WTF Title tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PERRY\u2019S ACTUAL PROMO \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p><div id=\"pwtor-1381143577\" class=\"pwtor-content pwtor-entity-placement\"><div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>While this segment makes as much sense as a fragile wrecking ball, the promo itself was pretty good. Jack Perry came off snotty, immature, and showed his ass in more ways than one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PERRY\u2019S ASS \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The most important takeaway from this segment was that it contained a shot of Jack Perry\u2019s butt (sort of). This highlight was executed via a picture of Perry in the shower with his FTW Title belt covering an inappropriate amount of his buttocks, and by inappropriate, I mean too much.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BLACKOUTS STOP SLEDGEHAMMERS \u2014 MISS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>AEW\u2019s recurring electrical problems don\u2019t annoy me as much as they do some people, but how does a lack of light stop a sledgehammer from swinging? Also, Hook\u2019s first suplex on Perry nearly drove Perry\u2019s head into the hammer part of his discarded sledgehammer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOOKS NEW TATTOOS &#8211; IN THE MIDDLE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These ones are fine, but let\u2019s stop while we\u2019re ahead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOOK\u2019S TWO-WORD PROMO \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p><div id=\"pwtor-2449231051\" class=\"pwtor-content-1 pwtor-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: pwtorchcom_test_300x600 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __300x600\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>If you\u2019re a talent who is worried you can\u2019t cut promos, this was an effective way to cover for it. Hook sounded like a badass, and I look forward to Hook vs. Jack Perry at All Out. I mean, what could go wrong?<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>ARTICLE CONTINUED BELOW&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pwtorch.com\/site\/2023\/08\/30\/free-sample-vip-podcast-todays-wade-keller-hotline-covering-cm-punk-jack-perry-controversy-in-depth-and-the-fallout-and-cascade-effect-of-it\/\">FREE SAMPLE VIP PODCAST: Today\u2019s Wade Keller Hotline covering CM Punk-Jack Perry controversy in depth and the fallout and cascade effect of it<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>https:\/\/www.pwtorch.com\/site\/2023\/08\/30\/free-sample-vip-podcast-todays-wade-keller-hotline-covering-cm-punk-jack-perry-controversy-in-depth-and-the-fallout-and-cascade-effect-of-it\/<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>ORANGE CASSIDY &amp; EDDIE KINGSTON &amp; PENTA vs. THE BUTCHER &amp; THE BLADE &amp; KIP SABIAN \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love Eddie Kingston\u2019s in-ring style, and while parts of this match were a little more chaotic than I\u2019d like, the whole thing only lasted ten minutes and did not overstay its welcome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POST-MATCH PROMO FROM THE BEST FRIENDS \u2014 MINOR HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chuck Taylor\u2019s face looked really red here. Did he get sunburned?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, this promo for a blood-soaked death match contained the words, \u201cYou sons of bitches broke my mom\u2019s van!\u201d and I don\u2019t know how to feel about that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>VIDEO PROMO BY JON MOXLEY \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Moxley is excellent at saying almost anything, and for some reason (probably because he looks like the dictionary definition of insanity), it always catches me off guard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>VIDEO PROMO BY SANTANA &amp; ORTIZ \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ortiz and Santana were standing as far apart as humanly possible without both men being off-screen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDDIE KINGSTON GOING TO FIND THE BCC &amp; COMPANY BACKSTAGE \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Why don\u2019t people do this more often?<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDDIE KINGSTON CUTS A TERRIFYING PROMO \u2014 MEGA HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eddie Kingston, the William Shakespeare of death threats, cut a promo in which he promised to gut, burn, and bury various members of the BCC, which is a vibe that definitely jives with \u201cYou sons of bitches broke my mom\u2019s van!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>HYPE VIDEO FOR FTR &amp; THE YOUNG BUCKS AT ALL IN \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s Bears vs. Twinks, and to my great astonishment, I\u2019m rooting for the Bears.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DARIUS MARTIN &amp; ACTION ANDRETTI vs. DARK ORDER \u2014 MISS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Up next, Collision was inexplicably interrupted by an unaired episode of Dark Elevation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A SEGMENT WITH A.R. FOX, NICK WAYNE, and DARBY ALLIN \u2014 MISS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because A.R. Fox\u2019s old friends turned on him (and for no other reason), Fox wanted Nick Wayne to know he was sorry he tried to murder him in his home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NICK WAYNE NOT ACCEPTING A.R. FOX\u2019S APOLOGY \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This was the only part of this segment that didn\u2019t want for a laugh track.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE ACCLAIMED PRESENT A NEW RAP VIDEO \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I loved this. I\u2019m not entirely sure what all Max Caster said because his shirt was off for a lot of it, but watching this hilarious video was a good use of my time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HYPE VIDEO FOR THE WOMEN\u2019S MATCH AT ALL IN \u2014 MINOR HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This video contained trace amounts of Toni Storm, which is not enough amounts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BIG BILL SQUASH MATCH \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bill (a name that is only slightly better than Bob) won this match easily.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STARKS WHIPS VARY MORALES WITH A BELT BECAUSE MORALES REMINDS HIM OF STEAMBOAT \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starks should do more of this and less of being too cool to boo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RUBY SOHO\u2019S PROMO \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ruby Soho cut an excellent promo. She was quick, to the point, intense, articulate, and she made me care about her match with Statlander.<\/p>\n<p>Soho is a very good promo when she wants to be, and I don\u2019t understand why they don\u2019t have her cut promos more often. For that matter, Soho should be taken more seriously in general, and I\u2019m confused as to why she is not.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WILLOW NIGHTINGALE vs. ONE OF THE RENEGADE TWINS (w\/Other Renegade Twin) \u2014 MINOR HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Have they introduced the Renegade Twins on either of their main shows?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe?<\/p>\n<p>I feel like they haven\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MIRO VS. HOBBS VIDEO PACKAGE \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This was a great recap of the Miro-Hobbs feud, and if they give them enough time, I think their match will over-deliver at All Out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KRIS STATLANDER STRUGGLES TO DO WORDS \u2014 MISS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Statlander is the epitome of someone who needs a manager. IMHO, she has everything you want in a wrestler except for the gift of gab. She has an intense look; she moves well in the ring, and she is good at facial expressions. Sadly, however, she can\u2019t talk, and having her cut promos in a traditional setting is setting her up for failure.<\/p>\n<p>Do they not have an acting coach in AEW? They should get an acting coach.<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone is going to be naturally good at promos. While it is true you can\u2019t teach charisma, you can at least teach adequacy. For example, Kurt Angle was awful at the beginning of his career, but with enough practice and guidance, he quickly learned to be more than passable.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t complicated, and it doesn\u2019t have to be hard or expensive. There are a lot of wrestlers in AEW who are good at cutting promos; all you need to do is find one and set up a promo class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KEITH LEE SQUASH \u2014 IN THE MIDDLE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Okay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>JOSE COMMITS MORE CRIMES IN MEXICO, BUT THIS TIME, DIRECTED BY JOHN WOO \u2014 MEGA MISS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SAMOA JOE\u2019S PROMO \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I found the guy to teach those promo classes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C.M. PUNK &amp; HOOK &amp; DARBY ALLIN &amp; STING vs. JAY WHITE &amp; LUCHASAURUS &amp; SWERVE STRICKLAND &amp; BRIAN CAGE \u2014 HIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This was a very good match, and it almost entered \u201cmega-hit\u201d territory for me. Everyone in this match played their parts perfectly; Hook continued to prove he isn\u2019t a one-move wonder, and Christian\u2019s facial expressions at ringside were classic. The only thing I didn\u2019t love about this match was its disregard for rules, especially near the end; however, I\u2019m inclined to defer to the \u201crule of cool\u201d for this one.<\/p>\n<p>Side note: I think Cage is underused, and while he is not exactly my style of wrestler, I know there is a market out there for Warrior-esque wrestlers like him, and I don\u2019t get why he isn\u2019t utilized more often because he is very good at being the style of wrestler he is trying to be.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FINAL THOUGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This entire show felt thrown together and like a missed opportunity. TBH, there was nothing horribly wrong with the matches themselves, but why were they chosen for the go-home episode before the biggest PPV in AEW\u2019s history?<\/p>\n<p><strong>SHOW GRADE: C-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you all for reading.
