She asked about the hair vs. title match contract, and said Darby said he’d never defend the title against him if he doesn’t agree to the stip. (How is that suddenly a champion’s prerogative?) The camera followed MJF as he noticed everyone backstage was bald as he walked past around a dozen backstage workers who were all bald. (This was right out of an episode of “The Twilight Zone.” Tommaso Ciampa took off his hat and eyed him. Ricochet told MJF he is going to look great bald, ‘but just not as good as me.”

-Tony Schiavone said, “I didn’t realize we had so many bald people around here.”

(Keller’s Analysis: For that gag to work, you either have to believe in coincidences, not care if AEW sets aside any semblance of this being an unscripted show for the sake a gag, or everyone decided to get together to taunt MJF as a practical joke. FTR got in some early offense. The Bucks rallied against The Doggs at 4:00. Stokely Hathaway yanked on their boots. They pulled him into the ring. He begged off and apparently offered them his watch as a bribe to leave him alone. FTR recovered enough to go on the attack. The Bucks took all the keels down. Nick Jackson tagged in Christian and he blocked the Bucks doing a superkick and instead kicked Cash in the crotch leading to a two count. They cut to a double-box break at 5:00. [c/db]

Copeland hot-tagged in after the break and the crowd popped as he went on the attack against Connors. Stokely was on commentary here. With all five heels down in the ring and all five faces setting up moves from all four corners and mid-ring, Stokely channeled Jim Ross and asked, “What is this and why is it allowed?” FTR came back and a Shatter Machien on Copeland, but Cassidy shoved Connor off of Copeland mid-count.

Cassidy slow-kicked TR mid-ring. They set up Shatter Machine in response. The Bucks intervened. Ciampa entered. Christian gave him a Kill Switch. Connor knocked Christian down and to the floor. The Bucks and Copeland triple superkicked Connors. Cassidy landed an Orange Punch. Copeland hit a spear for the three count on Connors. This was outdoors on a rooftop. Ospreay did a bridge onto his head to build strength as Mox showed him hows to apply a Bulldog Choke submission on Wheeler Yuta. Mox and Ospreay stood and chatted. Mox talked about Ospreay being care free like a bird back when he won the Super Juniors. He said everybody then came in and made everything complicated, years pass, and life happens with family and responsibilities, plus bad things happen, bad choices catch up to you, and it’s weight on your shoulders and you can’t fly like a bird anymore. He said he can still fly, but he’s more dangerous because now he’s a bird of pray. He told him not to go out and wrestle to protect something, but rather give something. Mox turned and yelled at Wheeler about something as Ospreay contemplated Mox’s comments. [c]

-Chris Jericho narrated a video package on the past Stadium Stampede matches and asked Ricochet if he could handle it.

-Ricochet stood backstage with his crew, Mark Davis, and Andrade. Schiavone noted Speedball has won four of his last five singles matches. Westbrook seemed to intentionally stumble on a move in the corner as a ploy, or just recovered quickly from a real stumble, and went for a kick. Speedball ducked when he dove, then landed a tornado round kick followed by his Double Weapon for the win.

WINNER: Speedball in 1:00.

-Knight joined Speedball afterward.

(3) KEVIN KNIGHT (w/”Speedball” Mike Bailey) vs. BRIAN CAGE (w/Trent Beretta, Rocky Romero, Lance Archer) – TNT Title Open Challenge

As Cage came out, Renee commented on his return at ringside and noted he was back after 14 months out with an injury and now is with the Don Callis Family. He flexed at ringside. Renee said he was somehow more jacked and locked in. The bell rang 39 minutes into the hour. Taz said Cage looked like he just got off a stage in an international bodybuilding show. Cage overpowered Knight for a while, but then Knight knocked him to the floor. Knight flip dove at Cage, but Cage brushed him off and then slammed him onto the ring apron. They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]

Knight went for another flip dive over the top rope, but Cage caught him. Knight leveraged Cage into the ringside steps. “Those poor steps,” said Taz. Knight leaped and clotheslined Cage at ringside. Archer approached Knight, so Speedball kicked him. Cage suplexed Knight for a near fall. Archer lifted Speedball, but Speedball flipped onto him to knock him down. Knight then gave Cage a leaping DDT for a near fall at 10:00.

Cage set up a powerbomb out of the corner, but Knight countered and sent Cage to the mat. He followed with his UFO Splash for the win.

WINNER: Knight in 11:00 to retain the TNT Title.

(Keller’s Analysis: Cage back in his prior role. He was a good opponent for Knight who could show he could conquer a bigger, stronger opponent.)

-Afterward, Speedball entered the ring and congratulated Knight on his win. Knight said he’s red-hot right now. He welcomed Cage back as he walked away. Knight said he wanted to become Jet Two Belts last week. Speedball told him he is a future AEW World Champion. Speedball said he wants to see MJF go bald, but he’s coming for his AEW World Title one way or another. He challenged the winner of Darby vs. Takeshita. [c]

-They went to the announcers at ringside who revealed the Owen Hart Tournament brackets.

Samoa Joe vs. Will Ospreay and Mark Davis vs. “Jungle” Jack Perry in the left bracket and Swerve Strickland vs. Bandido and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brody King in the right bracket.

-A promo aired with Perry saying Davis is no champion to him. He said he needed somebody to hit him with a golf club to beat him. He told. him to bring his friends at Stadium Stampede because everything goes there. He said after that, they’ll face off to earn a shot at the AEW World Title in London, England at All In. He declared he’s a future World Champion. “And if you don’t like that, f— you,” he said followed by a smile.

[HOUR TWO]

(4) WILL OSPREAY vs. ACE AUSTIN

The bell rang near the top of the hour. The announcers discussed Ospreay’s training with the Death Riders. They did mat exchanges for several minutes early. They cut to a double-box break at 5:00. [c/db]

Ospreay hit a Sky Twister for a two count. Taz commented on how Ospreay makes difficult flying moves look easy.

Ace landed a flat-liner at 12:00 for a near fall. Ospreay looked like he was a bit out of it. Fans chanted, “This is awesome!” Ospreay caught Ace mid-air and landed a sitout powerbomb for a near fall. Austin rallied, but Ospreay backdropped him as he charged, then landed a Hidden Blade. He followed with a cross armbreaker for a near immediate tapout. Taz and Excalibur said that choice of move was a result of the Death Riders’ training. Excalibur said it was the first submission win in Ospreay’s AEW career.

Ospreay shook Ace’s hand afterward and asked fans to applaud his effort.

WINNER: Ospreay in 16:00.

-Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and Anthny Bowens walked out onto the stage. Joe addressed Ospreay, whom he is set to face in the Owen Tournament. He said fate has put them on a collision course. He said he spoke to him about choices and their consequences. He said Ospreay could have joined The Opps, but he instead chose to be a laptop for the Death Riders. He said he made his choice and at Double or Nothing, he’ll make him suffer the consequences. He said he’ll wait, but Shibata and Bowens feel slighted “and I don’t put leashes on my friends.” The Death Riders’ music played and then they came out from the crowd to have Ospreay’s back. That was more than enough to back off Bowens and Shibata.

-Renee interviewed Don Callis and Takeshita backstage. MJF interrupted right away and said they haven’t talked since they wrestled and he beat him three years ago. He said since then he has become one of the greatest and he expects him to win the AEW World Title. He wanted a shot at the title and offered his hand. Takeshita shook his hand and said something in Japanese. He told Callis he can’t risk turning into “a disgusting bald geek.” He told Callis he looks fine, though. As MJF presented Callis with his Dynamite Ring, Andrade walked in. MJF walked away. Callis said Takeshita will bring the AEW World Title back to the Don Callis Family tonight. Andrade said he wants it to be his turn next. [c]

-Excalibur revealed the women’s brackets of the Owen Tournament. Persephone vs. Kazuki, Willow Nightingale vs. Alex Windsor, Mina Shirakawa vs. Athena, and Skye Blue vs. Sareee.

-Renee interviewed The Conglomeration’s Willow, Orange, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong. Orange said they get a shot at the AEW Tag Titles, but they haven’t decided which two of them it will be. O’Reilly said it should be Strong and Orange. He said he’s going after Moxley for the Continental Title. Willow then held up her TBS Title and said she wants all the gold at All In London. Orange said they should do the Word of the Day, though. O’Reillly yelled, “Mark!” Mark Briscoe came out and said the word of the day is “Reunification.” He said he wanted Ciampa’s ass next week on Dynamite. He went bonkers and everyone laughed.

(5) TRIANGLE OF MADDNESS (Skye Blue & Julia Hart & Thekla) vs. THE BRAWLING BIRDS (Alex Windsor & Jamie Hayter) & HIKARU SHIDA

The bell rang 32 minutes into the hour. Thekla opened against Hayter. All six ended up brawling right away,, though. Windor and Blue stood on the ringside barricade and fought. Blue knocked Windsor down. Hayter joined in and they dropped Blue over the ring apron. Thekla leaped off the top rope onto Hayter and Windsor. They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]

Excalibur noted that Shida hadn’t reunited with friends in the locker room, but she’s made an impact inside the ring. Thekla and Shida fought in the ring. More chaos broke out. Thekla hit Hayter with the belt as she ran the ropes, so the ref DQ’d her.

WINNERS: Windsor & Hayter & Shida via DQ in 11:00.

(Keller’s Analysis: A rare DQ finish in AEW.)

-As the Triangle tamed up against Windsor and Hayter, Shida decided to just leave. Thunder Rosa, Mina Shirakawa, and Willow ran out for the save instead.

-A vignette aired on Rush, running down his accomplishments in CMLL in particular. [c]

(6) DARBY ALLIN vs. KONOSUKE TAKESHITA (w/Don Callis) – AEW World Title match

Justin Roberts did formal ring introductions. The bell rang 52 minutes into the hour. Darby dropkicked Takeshita to ringside. Takeshita took over after a kick to Darby’s face. Callis said Darby has spent over 70 minutes of in-ring time defending the title since he won it. Callis said Takeshita is 50 percent better than he was three years ago. A graphic noted MJF would speak after the match. Takeshita threw Darby into the ringside barriade. Takeshita set up a toss onto the ringside steps, but Darby blocked it with a fingernail rake of his back. Takeshita charged seconds later, but Darby moved and thus Takeshita crashed into the steps.

Darby avoided a running knee and then followed with a leap through the ropes into Takeshita. He also crashed into the announce desk. Fans chanted, “Darby! Darby!” Darby leaped toward Takeshita on the ring apron, but Takeshita turned it into a Blue Thunder Bomb at ringside. They cut to a double-box break at 5:00. [c/db]

Takeshita dominated during the break.

[OVERRUN]

E Clone came out to distract the ref and then Callis put the Dynamite Diamond Ring in Takeshita’s hand. Takeshita paused and thought about it. Callis encouraged him to use it. Takeshita threw it down and fans cheered. Darby then small packaged a distracted Takeshita for a convincing near fall. Darby landed a top rope Code Red for a two count a minute later. Takeshita stood on the ringside steps and lifted Darby for a brainbuster. Darby countered with a Scorpion Death Drop. Darby landed a top rope Coffin Drop onto the floor. Darby landed another Coffin Drop in the ring for a near fall. Takeshita came back with a sudden power drive knee. Darby countered with a Scorpion Death Lock mid-ring. Takeshita reached the bottom rope to force a break. Darby landed two more Coffin Drops for the win.

WINNER: Darby in 16:00 to retain the AEW World Title.

(Keller’s Analysis: Really good match, continuing a good run of title defenses by Darby.)

-Darby called MJF to the ring to sign the contract. A crew brought a table into the ring. MJF came out to his music. Darby signed the contract as blood dripped from his mouth. MJF then was about to sign it, but pulled back. Taz said his hair would grow back, but it could cost him money. Schiavone said he’d be embarrassed in the mean time.

MJF said Darby looked like he had rabies. He said he hoped he had fun holding his AEW World Title. He said there’s a small thing, as small as a man’s penis from North Carolina, that he wanted to bring up. He said he’d never hold that title again and he said guys like Darby are a dime a dozen who are like stunt men who burn the candles at both ends. He said fans think life is about making friends and having children, but the only thing that actually matters is building a legacy.

MJF said Darby hasn’t made a difference. He said he on the other hand will go down as the greatest of all time. He said Darby cares about climbing the mountain top, but when it comes to pro wrestling, he is the mountain top.

Darby told MJF to shut up. He said he doesn’t care about legacy; he said he cares about living in the moment. He said he’ll make MJF a “bald-headed bitch” at Double or Nothing. Fans chanted “Bald-Headed Bitch.” MJF signed the contract, then speared Darby and tipped over the table. He hit hin with the Dynamite Diamond Ring, then stood over him holding the AEW World Title. MJF then set up Darby for a tombstone off the second rope in the corner. Knight ran into the ring, so MJF dropped Darby and fled.

JOIN US LIVE ON YOUTUBE TONIGHT FOR THE VIDEO-FORMAT OF OUR LIVE POST-SHOWS…

PWTorch editor Wade Keller and PWTorch’s Christopher Adams to review AEW Dynamite LIVE tonight right after Dynamite.
