The Young Lions got in the way to stop them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>B BLOCK MATCHES<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>GABE KIDD (8) vs. SHOTA UMINO (0)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shota Umino withdrew from the tournament, therefore had to forfeit his match against Gabe Kidd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Gabe Kidd (10 pts) via Forfeit<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>(5) DRILLA MOLONEY (6) vs. ZACK SABRE JR (4) &#8211; A Block Match<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ZSJ knocked Moloney off his feet with a wrist lock, until Moloney broke it with a hammerlock. ZSJ picked Moloney\u2019s foot and put him in an ankle lock, until Moloney kicked him away. Moloney went for a headlock takeover, but ZSJ countered it with a headscissors lock. ZSJ tried to go for a hammerlock, only for ZSJ to sweep him off his feet and send him out of the ring. Back in the ring, ZSJ avoided a dropkick, only for Moloney to pull him out of the ring and knock him off the apron with a jab. ZSJ blocked a dropkick through the ropes and put Moloney in an ankle lock, until Moloney kicked him into the guardrail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ZSJ hit Moloney with a neck twist and clobbered him with an uppercut before tying both of his arms. Moloney tried to kick ZSJ away, only for ZSJ to grab his foot and put him in an ankle lock. ZSJ trapped Moloney in a Straight Jacket Lock, but he was able to break it. They exchanged uppercuts, until Moloney caught ZSJ off-guard with a dropkick, leaving both men down. Moloney blasted ZSJ with chops to the chest and countered a sunset flip with a neck twist. Moloney put ZSJ down with a spinebuster, but ZSJ countered a diving elbow drop with a headscissors lock. ZSJ tried to transition into a Triangle Choke, until Moloney laid him out with a powerbomb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They exchanged supercuts and tried to go for the European Clutch. ZSJ put Moloney in a sleeper hold, until Moloney countered it with a pinning combination. ZSJ tied Moloney\u2019s head with his legs and pulled his arm back, forcing him to crawl and reach the ropes. Moloney dropped ZSJ with a backdrop driver and nailed him with a thrust kick, setting him up for Gore and a two count. ZJS put Moloney in a Guillotine Choke, but Moloney broke it and put him down with a vertical suplex. ZSJ managed to avoid the Drilla Killa and put Moloney down with a Zack Driver for a nearfall. Moloney clocked ZSJ with an enzuigiri, but ZSJ responded with a Penalty kick. Moloney surprised ZSJ with a pop up powerbomb, followed by a thrust kick. ZSJ landed on his feet off the Drilla Killa and got the three count by reversing a sunset flip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Zack Sabre Jr (6 pts) at 18:29 (***3\/4)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: Way more technical wrestling and grappling than I expected, but still very enjoyable. ZSJ has been excellent in his last couple of matches, as he struggled to climb up the ranks while being on the chopping block. Moloney looked really good in a match type that wasn\u2019t anywhere near the back-and-forth strike exchange I\u2019m used to seeing him in.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>(6) YUYA UEMURA (6) vs. HENARE (8) &#8211; A Block Match<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uemura caught Henare with an arm drag twice and put him in a shoulder lock. Uemura stopped Henare mid-air with an arm drag, only for Henare to retaliate with a barrage of chops. Henare sent Uemura to the apron and took him down with a clothesline. Henare laid Uemura out with a delayed vertical suplex for a two count. Uemura attacked Henare with a forearm shot, only for Henare to shut him down with a chop and crush him with a senton. Henare put pressure on Uemura\u2019s throat, until he was able to put his boot on the ropes. Uemura caught Henare off-guard with a corkscrew crossbody, leaving both men down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uemura took Henare down with a dropkick and a suplex, quickly transitioning into an armbar. Henare blocked a backdrop driver with a forearm shot, only for Uemura to nail him with a corner clothesline and a back suplex. Henare caught a high crossbody and flattened Uemura with a pop up Samoan Drop. Uemura took Henare down with a sunset flip, only for Henare to retaliate with a Penalty kick and Rampage for a nearfall. Uemura countered a lariat with an armbar takeover and blocked a shoulder tackle with a dropkick. Henare blocked the Deadbolt Suplex and gripped Uemura\u2019s throat before clobbering him with a couple of lariats for a two count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uemura countered a powerbomb with a hurracarrana and trapped him in an inverted armbar. Henare managed to lift emura to break the hold, only for Uemura to drop him with a German suplex and a dragon suplex for a two count. Uemura hit Henare with a headbutt, only for Henare to immediately knock him down with a headbutt of his own. Uemura countered a powerbomb with a release Deadbolt suplex, followed by High Fly Flow for a neafall. Uemura immediately crushed Henare with the Lion\u2019s Shiner for the victory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Yuya Uemura (8 pts) at 15:06 (***1\/2)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: Very solid back-and-forth encounter to start pushing Uemura back on top as a threat to the playoffs. Not much else to say here, just some good work and a fun match.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>(7) AARON WOLF (6) (w\/Tatsuya Matsumoto) vs. REN NARITA (8) (w\/Dick Togo) &#8211; A Block Match<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Togo attacked Matsumoto from behind and caught Wolf off-guard with an uppercut. Wolf Irish-whipped Togo and Narita into the guardrail. Once the match actually started, Wolf put Narita in an Anaconda Vice, until he was able to reach the ropes. Narita avoided a corner splash and took him off the turnbuckle pad, making Wolf crash into the exposed turnbuckle. Narita crushed Wolf\u2019s knee with a chair shot into the ring post and one on the floor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back in the ring, Narita put Wolf in an ankle lock, until he managed to grab the ropes. Wolf swept Narita off his feet and took him down with a series of judo throws. Wolf drove Narita into the corner and hit him with a suplex and an elbow drop for a two count. Narita caught Wolf off-guard with a big boot, knocking him off the apron. Narita swept Wolf off his feet and wedged his leg in the guardrail before putting him in a leg lock. Back in the ring, Wolf trapped Narita in a head-and-arm Triangle before launching him away with a suplex. Togo tripped Wolf behind the referee\u2019s back, only for Matsumoto to trip Narita off his feet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Narita shocked Wolf with a kick to the knees, but Wolf countered a Guillotine Choke attempt with a vertical suplex. Wolf nailed Narita with an elbow drop to the back, but he kicked out at two. Narita evaded a power move and trapped Wolf in an ankle lock, until he was able to grab the ropes. Togo gouged Wolf\u2019s eyes, but Wolf countered the Double Cross with a Xploder. Wolf immediately put Narita down with a Landslide for a two count. Wolf trapped Narita in a Triangle Choke, but Togo accidentally took the referee out with a chair shot. Matsumoto sent Togo out of the ring with a dropkick, but Togo rammed him into the guardrail. Wolf blocked a low blow and nailed Narita with a judo throw. Togo blinded Wolf with white powder before helping Narita lay him out with a modified Double Cross. Narita crushed Wolf\u2019s knee with a Hell\u2019s Guillotine and forced him to tap out with a Cross knee bar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Ren Narita (10 pts) at 14:01 (**1\/2)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: Narita is one of the wrestlers that annoys me the most in these tournament settings. I always find some genuine good work and exchanged that I enjoy in his matches, but it always has to be laced in House of Torture nonsense. I wish to someday be able to see what this matchup would have looked like because the glimpses we got here were actually promising.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>(8) OSKAR (6) vs. CALLUM NEWMAN (8) (w\/Zane Jay) &#8211; A Block Match<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newman low-bridged Oskar and crushed him with a plancha. Oskar Irish-whipped Newman into the guardrail and dropped him face-first onto the edge of the guardrail. Oskar blasted Jay with a massive big boot, making him crash over the guardrail. Back in the ring, Newman surprised Oskar with a roll-up, only for Oskar to take him down with chops to the chest. Newman tripped Oskar into the ropes and blasted him with a drive-by dropkick, followed by a slingshot stomp to the chest. Newman stomped Oskar\u2019s ribs and kicked him out of the ring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before Oskar could react, Newman put him in a dragon sleeper while pummeling his abdomen. Newman blasted Oskar with a Penalty kick, but he kicked out at one. Oskar blocked a kick to the chest and knocked Newman off his feet with a shoulder tackle. Oskar crushed Newman with a corner splash and planted him with a waist lock takeover, followed by an elbow drop for a two count. Newman caught Oskar with a kick to the abdomen, only for Oskar to shut him down with a big boot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newman caught Oskar with a roundhouse kick and dragged Oskar into the crowd. Oskar blocked a running dropkick and hurled Newman over nearly 10 rows of chairs with an Irish-whip. Newman managed to return to the ring in time, but Oskar immediately crushed him with a leg drop to the back. Oskar trapped Newman in a modified Camel Clutch, until he managed to reach the ropes. Oskar dared Newman to chop his chest, only for Newman to shock him with an elbow strike to the abdomen. Newman dropped Oskar with a German suplex and a clothesline, followed by another kick to the ribs and a roundhouse kick for a two count. Newman put Oskar down with the Prince\u2019s Curse, but he kicked out at two.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oskar blocked Kiss the Crown by biting Newman\u2019s arm. Newman avoided a Tombstone Piledriver and nailed Oskar with Kiss the Crown. Oskar avoided Make Way and countered a Victory Roll with a Tombstone Piledriver for a nearfall. Newman trapped Oskar in a sleeper hold, until Oskar dropped his body block. Newman tried to lock it in again, only for Oskar to reverse the hold. Newman kicked the referee out of the way and hit Oskar with a low blow, setting him up for a pinning combination and the win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Callum Newman (10 pts) at 18:18 (***1\/2)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: A pretty well worked main event with Newman\u2019s experience and cunningness getting him the win. Oskar was pretty good in his first main event singles match and sold Newman\u2019s midsection offense very well. Not bad by any means, but definitely fell short for a G1 show main event.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>FINAL THOUGHTS:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A bit of a weird show. It was technically better than some other shows that had more messy matches or left a worse taste in the mouth. However, the only match that I truly feel is worth going out of your way to watch was ZSJ\/Moloney. You won\u2019t have a bad time with Uemura\/Henare or Newman\/Oskar, but they felt somewhat lacking. This was so far the show that felt the absence of Shota Umino\u2019s match the most, especially because this show was meant to have the Umino\/Kidd rematch. As for the table standings, this is essentially a race between Kidd, Newman, Narita and Uemura. Henare is also in contention, but I can\u2019t picture him actually making it to the playoffs. I believe ZSJ is mathematically eliminated which is disappointing since I was hoping he would be a contender late in the tournament.
