They showed a graphic as Tony Schiavone explained the format of the Continental Cup.<\/p>\n<p>-They showed a video with highlights from Dynamite in Mexico for the thousands of loyal Collision viewers who don\u2019t watch the Wednesday night show.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(1) CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI vs. ACE AUSTIN \u2013 Continental Cup match<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Death Riders\u2019 theme played before the camera cut to the back as a metal door rolled up to reveal Claudio Castagnoli standing with his teammates. Claudio left them in the red light in the back and made his way through the crowd to the ring. They showed an inset video of Claudio saying something to Ace Austin in maybe German. There was no indication of what was said. Ace Austin made his entrance and the bell rang to start the match six minutes into the show.<\/p>\n<p>Claudio took Ace down and stomped him before Ace took Claudio down with an arm drag. Claudio came back with a scoop slam. Ace brought Claudio down with a drop toe hold and hit a kick to the back followed by a shotgun dropkick. Ace lifted Claudio onto his shoulders, squatted his weight and delivered a Death Valley Driver.<\/p><div id=\"pwtor-2929337487\" class=\"pwtor-content pwtor-entity-placement\"><div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Claudio rolled to the outside and Ace went for a plancha, but Claudio caught him and dropped him face-first across the barricade. Claudio hit a double axe handle from the apron and then rammed Ace into the apron. Ace hit a kick from the apron and then a crossbody over the top of the ringpost onto Claudio at ringside as they went to commercial. [c]<\/p>\n<p>Back from break, Ace struggled in a headlock. Claudio hit a running European uppercut in the corner and went for the pin but Ace kicked out at two. Ace dodged an elbow drop and landed a dropkick that left both men down.<\/p>\n<p>Ace hit a kick and back suplex followed by a standing leg drop. Claudio lifted Ace onto the turnbuckle but Ace jumped off and took Claudio down with a flying hurricanrana. Claudio rolled to the outside and Ace connected with a Fosbury Flop to the outside. Back in the ring, Ace hit a leg drop from the top rope across the back of Claudio\u2019s neck. Ace made the cover, but Claudio kicked out at two.<\/p>\n<p>Ace went for a springboard roundhouse, but Claudio caught him with an uppercut. Claudio made the cover, but Ace kicked out at two. Claudio went for the giant swing, but Ace brought Claudio down with a headscissor lock on the mat. Claudio got to his feet and lifted Ace up and slammed him to the mat.<\/p>\n<p>Claudio charged into a spin kick but caught Ace with the pop-up very European uppercut. Claudio made the cover and got the win.<\/p>\n<p>WINNER: Claudio Castagnoli in 12:00<\/p>\n<p><em>(White\u2019s Take: Ace \u201cLooks Good in Defeat\u201d Austin looked good in defeat against Claudio. Ace could\u2019ve been an interesting participant in the next round of the tournament, but the possibility of Claudio running into Moxley and causing some long overdue Death Rider friction could be much more interesting. Storylines aside, this was a fun opening match.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-They showed highlights of Will Ospreay wrestling Mark Davis on Dynamite. [c]<\/p><div id=\"pwtor-3922926692\" class=\"pwtor-content-1 pwtor-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: pwtorchcom_test_300x600 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __300x600\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>-They showed a replay of Motor City Machine Guns debut from last week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(2) THE BRAWLING BIRDS (Jamie Hayter &amp; Alex Windsor) vs. VERTVIXEN &amp; VIVA VAN<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Brawling Birds\u2019 music played to bring out Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor. Vertvixen and Viva Van were waiting ringside for the match. The bell rang to start the match 24 minutes into the hour.<\/p>\n<p>All four women brawled indiscriminately to the start. Windsor and Hayter chopped Vertvixen in the corner. Hayter and Windsor took Vertvixen and Van both down with double chops. Windsor took Vertvixen down with a Thesz press before Hayter landed a running boot.<\/p>\n<p>Vertvixen came back with a spinning kick from the middle rope. Van tagged in and hit like a sideways crossbody. Van made the cover, but Hayter kicked out at two. Hayter came back and took Vertvixen and Van down with a double clothesline.<\/p>\n<p>Windsor hit a backdrop of Vertvixen and took Van down with a blue thunder bomb. Hayter tagged in and they hit Vertvixen with a double headbutt, followed by crushing double clothesline. Despite some brief miscommunication, they hit the Hart Attack (sorry, Two Birds One Stone) for the win.<\/p>\n<p>WINNERS: The Brawling Birds in 4:00<\/p>\n<p>-After the match, Divine Dominion\u2019s music played. Hayter and Windsor played dumb babyface and stared at the entrance ramp as the crowd reacted and pointed behind them, allowing Lena Kross and Megan Bayne to attack from behind. They double chokeslammed Windsor onto the timekeeper\u2019s table, which did not break. Hayter opted to check on Windsor instead of attacking Bayne and Kross, and presumably meeting a similar fate as her partner.<\/p>\n<p>-They showed a video running down the feud between Darby Allin and Kevin Knight, where Darby challenged Knight to a falls count anywhere match for the TNT title at All In.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(3) ORANGE CASSIDY vs. MATT SYDAL \u2013 Continental Cup match<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Orange Cassidy made his entrance to \u201cJane,\u201d making his way to the ring and giving everyone an unenthusiastic thumbs up. Matt Sydal made his entrance as they showed an inset video where he said he got his foot fixed, meaning he can kick twice as much ass and intends to win the Continental Cup. The bell rang to start the match 33 minutes into the hour.<\/p>\n<p>Cassidy and Sydal traded quick pins attempts. Cassidy countered a hiptoss with an armdrag, and the Sydal did the same. Sydal swept out Cassidy\u2019s feet and set up for a standing moonsault, but Cassidy countered it with a roll-up for a two-count. Cassidy swept out Sydal\u2019s feet and slowly set up for a standing moonsault. Cassidy finally went for it, but Sydal rolled out of the way and then hit his own standing moonsault.<\/p>\n<p>Sydal climbed to the top rope and Cassidy met him there with punches. Each nearly lost their balance but managed to catch themselves. They then hit simultaneous punches sending both of them tumbling to the apron as they went to commercial. [c]<\/p>\n<p>They returned from commercial as Sydal climbed to the top rope and Cassidy caught him with a forearm. Sydal knocked Cassidy off with an elbow, leapt over him and took Cassidy down with a hurricanrana. Sydal hit Cassidy with a meteora from the top rope and made the cover, but Cassidy kicked out at two.<\/p>\n<p>Cassidy rammed Sydal\u2019s face into the turnbuckle and hit a crossbody from the top rope. Cassidy went for a swinging DDT and Sydal countered it, but Cassidy connected with a stundog millionaire instead. Cassidy hit a Michinoku driver and made the cover, but Sydal kicked out at two.<\/p>\n<p>The crowd chanted \u201cthis is awesome\u201d before Cassidy charged into a combination of kicks from Sydal. Cassidy put his hands in his pockets and dodged a kick before hitting a dropkick that knocked Sydal to ringside. Cassidy hit a dive to the outside and rolled Sydal back into the ring. Cassidy planted Sydal with the swinging DDT and made the cover, but Sydal kicked out at two.<\/p>\n<p>Sydal countered the Orange Punch with a quick roll-up for a two-count. Sydal hit a jumping knee and climbed to the top rope. Sydal went for a shooting star press, but Cassidy rolled out of the way. Sydal landed on his feet but stumbled into a Beach Break from Cassidy. Cassidy made the cover for the win.<\/p>\n<p>WINNER: Orange Cassidy in 12:00<\/p>\n<p><em>(White\u2019s Take: Sydal is the epitome of &#8220;What did they do to deserve a spot in this tournament?\u201d That said, he was just there to lose, so maybe it doesn\u2019t matter much. A fine match, both guys looked good, with the typical dose of Orange Cassidy comedy breaking up an otherwise strong match.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Moxley was backstage with Claudio and said he is a machine. Moxley said he\u2019s ripe for the picking for all the young predators. Moxley said he has a soft spot for Perry, but he\u2019s teaming with the wrong people. Moxley said he has a wild hair up his ass for the Bang Bang Gang. Claudio said \u201cagainst the world\u201d as Moxley walked off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(4) THE RASCALZ (Zachary Wentz &amp; Dezmond Xavier &amp; Myron Reed) vs. STEVEN FUERTE &amp; AARON SOLO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Rascalz\u2019s music played and they made their way to the ring, joined by Myron Reed. Aaron Solo and Steven Fuerte were already waiting in the ring. The bell rang and the match started 48 minutes into the show.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a random \u201cAaron Solo\u201d chant, Wentz hit Solo with a knee to the face and a cutter. Wentz nd Dezmond hit a combination kick and German suplex. Fuerte tagged in and got a slingshot into a kick to the gut followed by a double stomp from Wentz. Wentz and Dezmond hit the Hot Fire Flame and Dezmond made the over for the win.<\/p>\n<p>WINNERS: The Rascalz in 2:00<\/p>\n<p>-Dezmond grabbed the mic after the match and said \u201cHey-yo,\u201d and the crowd responded enthusiastically. They said they are one of the best trios, tag teams, and can handle their own in singles action. Reed said he\u2019s up against \u201cSpeedball\u201d Mike Bailey and said he\u2019s ready right now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(5) MYRON REED vs. \u201cSPEEDBALL\u201d MIKE BAILEY <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpeedball\u201d Mike Bailey\u2019s music played and he made his way out to the ring, sticking with the purple gear. The bell rang to start the match 53 minutes into the hour.<\/p>\n<p>Bailey and Reed traded arm drags and both went for a kick, catching each other\u2019s leg. Reed dodged a series of kicks before Bailey landed the rapid-fire kicks capped off with an enziguri. Reed dodged Bailey on the apron and hit a scissor kick in the ropes. Reed nailed Bailey with a springboard dropkick. Reed charged Bailey on the apron, but Bailey leapt over Reed into a springboard moonsault to the floor that connected as they went to commercial. [c]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>[HOUR TWO]<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>They returned from commercial and Reed and Bailey traded punches on the apron. Bailey swept out Reed\u2019s leg and went for flipping double knees, but Reed rolled out of the way, crashing his knees into the apron. Reed went for the cutter from inside the ring to the outside, but Bailey caught him and hit a thrust kick that stunned Reed. Bailey hit a twisting springboard moonsault to the outside that left both men down.<\/p>\n<p>Back in the ring, Bailey hit a kick on Reed on the top turnbuckle. Bailey took Reed down with a top-rope hurricanrana. Reed dodged a spinning kick attempt and landed a cutter. Reed charged into a kick and Bailey hopped onto the middle rope. Bailey went for the Ultimate Weapon, but Reed popped to his feet and caught Bailey with a cutter (out of nowhere).<\/p>\n<p>Reed hit a running, flipping dive over the corner of the ring onto Bailey at ringside. Reed went for a 450 splash in the ring, but Bailey dodged it. Reed charged Bailey again and Bailey hit a standing Spanish Fly. Bailey made a cover and got the win.<\/p>\n<p>WINNER: \u201cSpeedball\u201d Mike Bailey in 10:00<\/p>\n<p><em>(White\u2019s Take: Fun back-and-forth match that put \u201cSpeedball\u201d back in the win column while Reed looked good with a mix of innovative and athletic spots. Schiavone kept trying to tell us that \u201cSpeedball\u201d has been on a roll, but, since I watch the product, I know he\u2019s been losing matches left and right with the exception of a fluke win in a ladder match at Redemption. However, in AEW parlance, \u201cSpeedball\u201d and Fletcher was such a good match that winning or losing is irrelevant.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-The Dogs were backstage where Connors said they beat The Bang Bang Gang and Finlay said Jay White doesn\u2019t have what it takes to beat him, or survive him. They listed possible opponents in the Continental Cup tournament before Connors said The Dogs are off the chain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(6) HIKARU SHIDA &amp; PERSEPHONE vs. HYAN &amp; MAYA WORLD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shida\u2019s music played and she stepped out onto the stage before Persephone made her way out. They high-fived before making their way to the ring. They showed an inset promo where Persephone said Maya\u2019s luck will run out and Shida insisted that TBS still stands for \u201cThe Besty Is Shida.\u201d Hyan and Maya World made their entrance. The bell rang to start the match eight minutes into the second hour.<\/p>\n<p>Hyan took Persephone with an amdrag and a Northern Lights suplex with a bridge into a pin for a quick two-count. Maya tagged in and hit a combination of strikes before she hit the ropes and Shida caught her with a knee. Maya fought off Persephone and Shida. Maya hit Persephone with a spinning heel kick and made the cover, but Persephone kicked out at two.<\/p>\n<p>Hyan tagged in and went for a sunset flip, but Persephone rolled through and hit a shotgun dropkick. Shida hit Hyan from the floor with a running knee. Maya went for a dive onto Shida and Persephone on the outside, but they caught her with a double forearm as they went to commercial. [c]<\/p>\n<p>Back from break, Persephone hit Hyan with a back leg trip. Hyn caught Persephone with an arm drag and made the hot tag to Maya. Maya caught Shida with a headscissor and hit Persephone with a DDT. Maya hit an assisted canonball on Shida in the corner. Persephone tripped Maya on the outside and dragged her out of the ring and rammed her into the barricade. Persephone hit Hyan with a missile dropkick and Shida followed up with a falcon arrow. Shida held on for the pin, but Maya broke it up at two.<\/p>\n<p>Hyan caught an attempted knee strike and hit Shida with a forearm. Hyan and Maya hit Shida with a tag team flatliner maneuver. Hyan made the cover, but Persephone broke ti up at two. Maya escaped a Razor\u2019s Edge and hit a fallaway slam on Persephone. Maya hit Persephone with a dive to the outside as Hyan nailed Shida with a spear. Hyan made the cover, but Shida kicked out at two.<\/p>\n<p>Shida countered a move and blasted Hyan with a forearm. Shida planted Hyan with what the internet calls a cutthroat tombstone piledriver. Shida made the cover and got the win.<\/p>\n<p>WINERS: Hikaru Shida &amp; Persephone in 10:00<\/p>\n<p><em>(White\u2019s Take: Perfectly good match. Some of Maya\u2019s performances have been shaky since they strapped the proverbial rocket to her, but she looked good here, garnering strong fan support and getting a chance to shine. Shida remains Shida, Hyan has improved despite being overshadowed by her tag partner, and Persephone is maybe the most interesting of the four.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Lexy was backstage with Kevin Knight to ask about Darby\u2019s challenge for All In. Knight said he knows what Darby wants and said he\u2019ll maybe give him his wish. Instead, Knight challenged Jericho to a match on Wednesday. [c]<\/p>\n<p>-They showed highlights of Takeshita\u2019s performance in the G1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(7) JACK PERRY &amp; THE BANG BANG GANG (Austin Gunn &amp; Colten Gunn &amp; Juice Robinson) vs. THE DEATH RIDERS (Wheeler Yuta &amp; Daniel Garcia &amp; Pac &amp; Jon Moxley w\/Marina Shafir)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bang Bang Gang made their entrance before \u201cTarzan Boy\u201d played and the crowd waved their arms to welcome \u201cJungle\u201d Jack Perry. The Death Riders music played and the camera returned backstage to find Pac, Garcia, Yuta, Moxley, and Marina. They came through the crowd and to the ring. The bell rang to start the match 29 minutes into the second hour.<\/p>\n<p>The match started with a dueling \u201cGuns up\u201d and \u201cMoxley\u201d chants. Perry tagged in to face Moxley, but Moxley tagged out to Yuta. Perry hit a monkey flip and a dropkick on Yuta. Juice tagged in and Yuta bit at his face before tagging Garcia in. Juice hit a hiptoss on Garcia and Pac and then hit them both with a combination of jabs. Juice hit a crossbody on Garcia and Pac before clotheslining Yuta, Garcia, and Pac out of the ring.<\/p>\n<p>Moxley hit Juice with a thumb to the eye and Perry caught Moxley with a dropkick. Moxley rolled out of the ring and paced with the Death Riders while the Bang Bang Gang and Perry held the ring and they went to commercial. [c]<\/p>\n<p>They returned from commercial as Yuta and Garcia pummeled Juice in the ring. Juice struggled out of a headlock, but the Death Riders charged the ring, knocking their opponents off the apron and stomping Juice down in the corner. Juice caught Garcia with a leg lariat and crawled towards Perry in the corner.<\/p>\n<p>Perry got the hot tag as Moxley entered. Perry hit forearms and chops on Moxley and a flying forearm. Perry charged into a boot from Moxley. Moxley set up for a Gotch-style piledriver, but Perry escaped and hit the ropes and they collided in a double crossbody. Austin tagged in and took out Yuta\u2019s leg and hit a hiptoss into a neckrbeaker on Garcia. Austin planted Pac with a DDT and Colten hit Moxley with a flying clothesline.<\/p>\n<p>Colten hit a DDT on Pac and caught Yuta with a Famouser. Colten made the cover, but Pac and Moxley both broke up the pin. Moxley, Pac, Yuta, and Garcia hit Colten with a parade of running attacks in the corner until Juice intercepted all four of them with jabs. Austin hit Pac with a jumping flatliner and Yuta hit Austin with a Samoan drop, and Colten hit Yuta with a back suplex and Moxley hit Colten with a cutter before Perry nailed Moxley with a thrust kick.<\/p>\n<p>Perry hit Pac, Garcia, and Moxley with a top-rope moonsault to the outside. Back in the ring, Yuta charged into a dropkick from Colten. Austin and Colten set up for the 3:10 to Yuma, but Marina got on the apron to save Yuta. As the ref dealt with Marina, The Dogs ran down to the ring and pulled Austin crotch-first into the ringpost as Yuta caught Colten with a low blow as well. Garcia held Colten for Yuta to land his running knee. Yuta made the cover and got the win.<\/p>\n<p>WINNERS: The Death Riders in 13:00<\/p>\n<p><em>(White\u2019s Take: Can they even call it Collision without a pointless multi-man tag match that loosely interconnects a few storylines? Overall a good match, although it\u2019s hard to imagine it mattered who came out on top. The Gunns looked good up against stalwarts like Pac and Moxley while Garcia and Yuta continued to look like the black sheep of the Death Riders.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-After the match, Perry blasted Yuta with a running knee and pointed at Moxley.<\/p>\n<p>-\u201cSpeedball\u201d Mike Bailey was backstage and challenged MJF on Dynamite. Nick Wayne interrupted him and mocked him for coming up short. Wayne said his aspiration is become the youngest AEW world champion, entering himself with Bailey into a match with MJF for the number two spot in the Casino Gauntlet match. Bailey wished him good luck.<\/p>\n<p>-Tony Schiavone introduced and narrated a video celebrating the life of Dory Funk Jr. [c]<\/p>\n<p>-Shane Taylor Promotions was standing with Lexy across from The Hurt Syndicate. Shane addressed MVP, saying that they would like to acquire the services of the Hurt Syndicate, saying they can get rich and make history working together. Shane handed Bobby an envelope of cash, and MVP said they\u2019d be in touch.<\/p>\n<p>-Jack Perry and The Bang Bang Gang were outside of the building. Jack said that his parents told him to stay away from gangs, but he said The Bang Bang Gang seems alright. Perry said he and Moxley will be one-on-one for the first time ever on Wednesday. Perry said it only takes one upset, and Moxley is out of the cup and no longer champion. Juice told Finlay he\u2019s in trouble with Jay White, because there\u2019s no interference in the Continental Cup matches.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(8) JAKE DOYLE vs. EDDIE KINGSTON \u2013 Continental Cup match<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jake Doyle\u2019s music played and he stepped out onto the stage with Trent before making his way to the ring by himself. They showed a replay from Ring of Honor of The Callis Family beating down Kingston. Kingston\u2019s music played and he made his entrance as Ortiz cheered him on. They showed an inset promo where Kingston reminded everyone that he won the first Continental Classic, but he\u2019s also excited to get the win at the expense of the Callis Family. The bell rang to start the match 56 minutes into the second hour.<\/p>\n<p>Kingston took Doyl down with a headlock takeover but ran into a shoulder block from Doyle. Kingston came back with his own, but Doyle came off the ropes and dropped Kingston again. Kingston hit a few chops, but Doyle fired back and knocked Kingston to the mat.<\/p>\n<p>Kingston dodged Doyle in the corner and delivered another series of chops. Doyle ducked the last one and dropped Kingston with a lariat. Doyle clotheslined Kingston against the barricade, but Kingston fought back with a few headbutts. Doyle scoop slammed Kingston and made the cover, but Kingston kicked out at two. Doyle hit Kingston with a clothesline and went for the pin again, but Kingston kicked out at two.<\/p>\n<p>Kingston fought back with some open-hand strikes and a loud chop to the chest. Kingston hit the machine gun chops in the corne. Kingston went for an exploder suplex, but Doyle blocked it and delivered a running powerslam. Doyle made the cover, but Kingston kicked out at two. [c]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>[HOUR THREE \/ OVERRUN]<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Back from break, both men struggled to their feet. Kingston hit a flying shoulder tackle from the middle rope. Kingston lowered the straps and hit Doyle with an exploder suplex. Kingston made the cover, but Doyle kicked out at two. Doyle hit a forearm and a sliding lariat. Doyle set up for a powerbomb, but Kingston escaped and hit a back suplex. Kingston crawled into the cover and got two.<\/p>\n<p>The crowd chanted for Kingston as he went for the spinning backfist. Doyle ducked the backfist and hit Kingston with a sitout powerbomb. Doyle held on for the pin, but Kingston kicked out at two. Doyle grabbed Kingston by the throat and lifted him to his feet. Doyle hit Kingston with a pair of forearms. Eddie came back with a sudden spinning backfist and then landed a second one. Eddie locked in a dragon sleep with an armlock (a stretch plumb, I\u2019m told) and Doyle submitted.<\/p>\n<p>WINNER: Eddie Kingston in 12:00<\/p>\n<p><em>(White\u2019s Take: The obvious winner obviously wins. It was mostly the hard-hitting affair one would imagine given the two participants but was still a bit slow and far from explosive. The announcers covered, citing the elevation in Colorado. Not the best match on the show, but the crowd was with Eddie Kingston the whole way, so that\u2019s good.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Schiavone ran down some matches from Dynamite as Kingston stood tall in the ring and they went off the air.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FINAL THOUGHTS:<\/strong> The Continental Cup matches added some stakes to the normally pointless matches, but the de facto B-show only got the B-level matchups. Solid in-ring action as always, but nothing to report coming out of the show. They set up a few matches for Dynamite, but anyone who skipped out on this episode of Collision could be brought up to speed by a sentence or two on commentary come Wednesday. As a sidenote, Paul Wight and Schiavone on commentary is not some kind of dream team, more the stuff of nightmares.
