Tonight, he signs his contract.

-Mike Santana opened the show walking through the crowd; there was a shot from above of him walking up the rear stairs, which was a rare shot of an area we don’t see on TV in a venue we’ve all come to know extremely well. Santana cut a promo on Zilla Fatu, saying there was no way he was going to let him come in and take what’s his, because he’s a loud and proud boricua from New York.

Rey Fenix’s music played him down the ramp fresh off of his victory for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship. He said he’s excited to find out his next challenger after tonight’s four-way. He said if someone cost him a title shot, he’d be ready for them too. He said he had Montana’s back. Montana said they’ve gone to hell together all over the wrestling landscape but he’s proud of how Fenix has represented the Latino culture. He turned his focus back to Zilla Fatu and said the most dangerous place in wrestling is the NXT parking lot, so he’s going to meet him there.

-During his entrance, EK Prosper shook hands with Fenix, who went back up the ramp. Vic asked Booker if they were looking at the fastest rising star in NXT. Seems a bit strong to me, but we’ll see what they have in store. When La Parka was introduced, Booker said “I wrestled this guy,” and he wondered how he’s still doing it. Vic said La Parka was his favorite guy to use in WCW vs. The World.

(1) ROMEO MORENO (w/Noam Dar) vs. EK PROSPER vs. LA PARKA vs. TRISTAN ANGELS – Fatal four-way match to determine the top contender for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship

Surprisingly, all four got full televised entrance, which is a huge rarity in multi-person matches on NXT. Parka and Angels were bumped the floor early and the other two had a quick-moving sequence. Action was of course at a breakneck speed as nobody took sustained control early, but at least Angels was getting some good heat to give the match some identity. Moreno got something resembling a shine as he took out Angels and Prosper outside, but La Parka hopped up to the corner and hit all three with a moonsault after they were polite enough to stand there waiting for him for a while. The match went to split-screen. [c]

Angels went up in a corner with Moreno but Prosper yanked him down. The match went to everyone hitting quick spots with no storytelling flow. After some quick selling on the mat by all four, Angels hit a slam on Moreno for two, broken up by La Parka. Parka hit super Spanish Fly on Moreno and Moreno stared shamelessly at Prosper as he flew in to break it up, giving away how the spot would be broken up. Angels repeated this just moments later as he waited for someone to break up a cover that Moreno made on him. Parka slammed Moreno but Angels shoved Parka from the ring and covered for two. Angels stalked Moreno but Prosper showed up for the first time in a while and took both out. Prosper hit a moonsault from about a mile in the air on Moreno to advance to a championship match.

WINNER: EK Prosper at 10:29.

(Wells’s Analysis: The crowd twice chanted “This is awesome,” but a spotfest with nobody looking special isn’t my thing, and I don’t think anyone came out of this looking much better. In addition, Vic kind of tipped NXT’s hand by suggesting Prosper is the fastest-rising star in NXT before the match, which honestly didn’t look to be true until possibly AFTER the match here)

-Nattie vs. Thea Hail is up next. [c]

-Wren Sinclair and Kendal Grey fired each other up in the pantry. All four of the Vanity Project showed up and Brad Baylor tried to offer his services if she needed help. Grey said the three guys in VP remind her of the guys she wrestled in high school, because they had a hard time growing facial hair as well. VP tried to cut on Shiloh Hill, but Sinclair said he was smart and knew how to use tools, while these three are just the tools. After the babyfaces left, Jackson Drake asked Myka Lockwood “Are you gonna let them talk to us like that?” and Lockwood said “Sorry, but they just cooked ya. Lock in before you’re out there tonight.”

(2) THEA HAIL (w/Jaida Parker) vs. NATTIE (w/Nikkita Lyons & Karmen Petrovic)

Nattie tried to jump Hail before the bell but referee Victoria D’Errico broke it up. Nattie took control in the opening minute but Hail hit a Thesz press into some ground & pound. Nattie bailed to her underlings and Hail hit a tope suicida on all three. The match went to commercial with no split-screen. [c]

The match returned to som quick rollups that went nowhere. Hail went for the Kimura Lock but Nattie charged her to a corner tro break. Nattie made a quick cover and tried to transition into a sharpshooter but Hail fought it off. Hail hit a knife-edge chop and an exploder out of the corner. She hit a snap mare into a quick cover. They went to rollup reversals for a series of twos. Hail grounded Nattie and went for a springboard senton, but Nattie moved. Hail hit the Kimura on the mat, but Nattie fought to her feet and slammed Hail. She put Thea in the sharpshooter and Hail tried to fight her way to Parker. Nattie pulled Hail to the center of the ring and got the tap as she stared out at Jaida Parker, the real target here.

WINNER: Nattie at 8:25.

Lyons and Petrovic held Parker back and, Clockwork Orange-style, forced her to watch as Nattie again put Hail in the Sharpshooter.

(Wells’s Analysis: Hail seems in no different a spot as she was multiple years ago, which is something I’ve typed before. It’s also becoming true of Parker who occasionally makes big returns just to lose her way down to the midcard and become mired in a long feud away from championships)

-OTM talked in the locker room. Bronco Nima told Lucien Price to go out there, bring the heat and bring the Speed Championship home. [c]

(3) LUCIEN PRICE vs. LEXIS KING (w/Birthright) (c) – Speed Championship match

King set aside his hat and Price superkicked him for a long two, broken up only because Birthright yanked him to safety. They tried to get in front of him to stall for time but Price broke through. The match went back inside 40 seconds in, but King went straight back out to hide behind them again before Price ran him back into the ring. King bailed a third time and made a motion like he was tapping a watch. King ran the apron for an attempt at maybe a PK but Price hit a hard palm strike. Back inside, Price hit a corner splash, but King snuck out of an attempt at a slam and hit a superkick. Price fired up into the camera and Birthright was shown worrying.

King went to the apron, where he hung up Price on the rope. Price charged and slammed King back into the ring. King cut him down with a boot and a DDT for two. King leaned on Price against a rope, then hit a running knee for two. King hit some hard kicks to the chest on a grounded Price, who fought back with a lariat andan elbow. Price ducked a lariat and hit a uranage. Price set up King in a corner but Birthright held his legs and King slammed down on him. King hit the Coronation to finish as Vic said it took five individuals to beat Price.

WINNER: Lexis King at 4:35.

Nima showed up to help and they ran off Birthright despite numbers. Nima held out his hand for a handshake, which Price hit after just a moment as an “OTM” chant went out. What’s the holdup with a major push for these guys?

(Wells’s Analysis: King is who he should be, running scared all over to try to hold onto his prize. Price and Nima are well overdue for more than what they’re doing, but at least there’s a story for them and they’re figured in every week)

-Grayson Waller walked through the back. [c]

[HOUR TWO]

-Waller hit the ring and cut on everyone. He said yet another Samoan was trying to take bread off his table. He said he’s from Western Sydney and Uces have been fighting him all his life. He said he’s happy Fatu is here because he finally got the ankle monitor off and he can roam free. There was a good reaction for that. He said before he got involved, he was going to be #1 contender.

Tony D’Angelo’s music played him to the ramp. He said it was fine if Waller wanted to call himself top contender, because they keep lining up, and he keeps knockin’ em down.

They started breaking down and Mike Santana’s music brought him to the party. He again came through the crowd and said last time he tangled with Waller, his punk ass was looking at the lights until Zilla showed up. He said they should finish the business and then he can take D’Angelo down too.

Robert Stone joined the scene and said the reality is Zilla’s not even under contract yet, so he’s doing what’s fair – putting these three in a triple threat match for the NXT Championship. Not sure how that’s fair to D’Angelo, but he’s gotta say what he’s gotta say. There wasn’t much of a reaction to this; is it wishful thinking that the crowd is just as over triple threats as I am?

-Lizzy Rain and Shiloh Hill talked in the back. Myles Borne showed up and said if Hill beats Drake tonight, he’s going to give him a shot at the NXT North American Championship. Vic was excited but Booker wondered what the hell Borne is thinking. [c]

-Stone went to his room, where Keanu Carver was sitting in his chair. Carver tried to get himself into a championship match and Stone said it wasn’t that simple. Carver said he made Stone a coffee and he forced him to drink it. After Carver left, Kam Hendrix showed up to bother Stone, who was over it all.

(4) WRENQCC (Kendal Grey & Wren Sinclair) vs. KALI ARMSTRONG & KELANI JORDAN

Armstrong fought off everything Sinclair had in mind early until Sinclair tripped Armstrong into the ropes. Both made tags and Jordan hit a superkick on Grey. After some reversals, the faces made a blind tag and hit a double hip toss. An interfering Armstrong ended up on the outside. Grey hit a rana on Armstrong outside, and Wren hit both off the apron as the match went to commercial. [c]

Lani hit a moonsault on Sinclair for two. She charged herself out of the ring as Sinclair yanked the rope down. It was bonzo gonzo for a bit but Grey caught Armstrong in an ankle lock. Grey, throughout the match, sold the ear injury as messing with her equilibrium. Lani and Sinclair tagged in, and Sinclair got the better of the exchanged until Jordan got pulled to safety by Armstrong and she speared from the apron. The ref got hung up with Grey as Lani covered and nobody was there to count. The story of Kelani getting screwed over rages on. Inside the ring, Armstrong and Sinclair exchanged rollups. Armstrong hit a powerslam and the awesome Kali Connection to finish.

WINNERS: Armstrong & Jordan at 10:30.

(Wells’s Analysis: Not a bad tag match on a brand that seems to want to make all of them spotfests. There was a story here as Grey couldn’t focus for long at a time given the equilibrium issues, though she still didn’t eat the pin)

-In a promoted segment, Saquon Shugars and Dion Lennox bantered from separate locations as they go to another match. Both sides talked tough, with Lennox talking about why he was leader of DarkState and Shugars focusing on the fact that Lennox needs DarkState and he doesn’t. Shugars called for a steel cage match, and Lennox wanted weapons involved. Shugars said Lennox doesn’t want that. Lennox said two would walk in the cage, but he’s the one that walks out. [c]

(5) SHILOH HILL vs. JACKSON DRAKE (w/The Vanity Project) – Myles Borne has promised the winner a shot at the NXT North American Championship

Drake laid in a kick and then begged off in the ropes. Drake threw a right and Hill threw a much harder one. Hill worked a wristlock and Drake did everything he could to reverse, but Hill hit a body slam just as he was wriggling free. Hill missed in the corner and Drake immediately targeted the shoulder. Hill hit a neckbreaker and went for a belly-to-back suplex but Drake held on with a headlock. Hill hit a fireman’s carry slam into a cover for two. Hill got shoved near a rope and as the ref was hung up with Myka Lockwood, the other VP goons laid into Hill. Hill got rolled back in for a cover for two as the match went to commercial, again with no split-screen; strange, as no other matches are likely coming. [c]

They went to a long series of reversals and quick shots upon return. Hill hit a hard lariat. The crowd chanted for him as he hit a big boot and a standing spinning senton for two. Hill fired up and went for a powerslam, but Drake turned it into a back body drop. Hill popped Drake up and threw a hard right. Lockwood got involved with the ref again and Hill again was hung up by Baylor and Smokes. Referee Derek Sanders went out and actually blocked Ricky Smokes from throwing a right, then threw out the rest of the Vanity Project. Hill hit a splash on all three just to punctuate the point. Inside, Hill hit a big block.

Hill went up in a corner and Drake went up with him. Drake fell and bumped Sanders, and almost immediately, Naraku appeared from under the ring out of nowhere and he spit mist into the face of Hill. It left Drake with the opportunity to hit his finisher.

WINNER: Drake at 11:04.

(Wells’s Analysis: So we get a face/heel match for the North American Championship after all. Naraku shouldn’t have any particular beef with Hill, so it’ll be interesting to see where they take that one. This show desperately needed a strong classic match, and this was good enough on this night)

-Zaria talked to Robert Stone. Kali Armstrong showed up and they argued about who’s more dominant. Armstrong called Zaria a “red-headed heifer.” Stone said they’ll face off next week and if Armstrong wins, he’ll turn Zaria’s unification match next week into a triple threat. Great, just what NXT needs more of. [c]

-Next week, EK Prosper faces Rey Fenix, Saquon Shugars and Dion Lennox face off in a weaponized cage match, and Kali Armstrong faces Zaria to be entered into the Speed/North American unification match.

-With just six minutes left to the hour, Robert Stone introduced Zilla Fatu, the “newest signing,” though earlier it was said he wasn’t actually signed yet to have an out for him to not be wedged into the championship match at Heatwave. Fatu warmly slapped hands with the crowd despite his actions last week. This company has literally no idea whether the Samoan Dynasty are faces or heels right now. Fatu posed to his music for quite a while despite little time to spare. D’Angelo had shown up on the perch to watch.

The crowd chanted for Zilla as he said this was the big moment for him as he signed with the #1 wrestling company in the world. The crowd sucked up to him by chanting for Umaga. He said he never thought he would be here, but he is now. It would’ve been shocking if he wasn’t. He said the goal was to make sure everyone knows he’s not a nepo baby, as his talent will speak for itself. He said last week he made a lot of people mad, but they can get used to it. Mike Santana and Grayson Waller tried to get through security guys, but they really have no beef left with him as he created a situation where they both get a title shot instead of just one. Stone said the contract states that Fatu’s first NXT match is an NXT Championship match. Some of the crowd chanted “You deserve it.” WHAT?! By what measure?! Fatu said he was inserting himself into the Heatwave match to make it a four-way. Security held everyone away from everyone else as Vic wondered aloud if D’Angelo could survive the Heatwave.

FINAL THOUGHTS: What an absolute drag that another NXT PLE is anchored by a multi-man match. The Fatu business is a total mess as his actions were purely heelish last week and he was completely rewarded by being added to the match, all while a portion of the crowd acted like this is completely reasonable despite his zero matches thus far in the company. There were little things to like tonight, but there’s a lot of belief to suspend, even by wrestling standards. I’ll try not to get too snarky about it on PWT Talks NXT with Nate Lindberg in a few minutes.

THANK YOU FOR VISITING

NXT TV RESULTS AUGUST 18, 2026 WINTER PARK, FLA.
