The Nemeths were appropriately annoying and had the appropriate grandiose sense of self-worth that heels should have. Leon Slater was appropriately cool and confident. The fact that they tied-in the recent success of Sosa and Slater as a tag team to Slater’s recent rise to the World Title scene through Option C (which I hate as a concept, but check out the misses section) and the Nemeths being involved with both titles was perfect. A rare near perfect segment from TNA here and a great way to begin the “road to Bound for Glory”. The fact that Sosa and Slater got the Tag Title match that they deserved is one of the “rewarding the fanbase” moments that TNA needs to do more of.

The teasing of descension between John Skylar and Mustafa Ali

I’ve been ready for Ali and Order 4 to split for quite some time now so, as one might expect, I was intrigued when Mila Moore subtly mentioned that with Ali in the hospital for the night, Sklyar was essentially the de-facto leader of Order 4. With Jason Hotch already escaped from the faction, their demise seems imminent sooner rather than later.

Elayna Black feeling like a true face tonight

Elayna Black felt like a real face tonight. She showed the agony of defeat by stating her disappointment at losing the Knockouts World Title match in her hometown at Lockdown. She addressed her past faults, appeared humble, and essentially asked the fans for a fresh start and she talked about how winning wasn’t only for her, it was also for her friends and family who have supported her along the way. She finished by saying that she was just beginning and this was the start of the “Elayna Black era”. She actually got a good reaction from the crowd too. I guess maybe she wasn’t only a flavor of the month face and she might be staying as one. I have to admit, I may have been wrong. Maybe she can pull it off.

Trey Miguel & Jason Hotch getting a big tag team win to further their feud directions

I think that having Miguel & Hotch defeat Order 4 in a tag match is an interesting direction. They would both, arguably now, have a claim at Ali’s International Title. Could we possibly be getting a Triple Threat match for the International Title at Bound for Glory between Miguel, Hotch and Ali? That would feel worthy of TNA’s biggest show of the year. The one aspect I didn’t like was Hotch even acting like he was considering a “truce” with Ali. That makes him look like a dumb, weak babyface. He should be beyond that now.

Moose and Frankie being the “angel and devil” on Avery Styles shoulder

I like the idea of Avery Styles being a young, inexperienced wrestler who could be easily influenced and Moose being the good guy trying to guide him down the right path and Frankie Kazarian being the bad guy trying to glom onto and corrupt Styles. It’s a real human story. The only issue I have is that this feels a little beneath Moose at this moment. It might not be the most efficient use of his star power headed for Bound for Glory. That being said, if they tell a great story, I could see myself actually getting excited for a Frankie Kazarian feud. “The devil is in the details” as they say.

Zoey Serrano debuting and attacking Indi Hartwell

While I think that Zoey Serrano (the former Zoey Stark in WWE/NXT) could’ve been introduced, in a better way, without the insertion of Daria Rae, I am glad that Indi now has a legitimate wrestler to feud with rather than an authority figure. I think that Serrano can be a strong fit in TNA. This does make me wonder if Indi will still be involved in the Knockouts World Title scene headed into Bound for Glory or if creative doesn’t think that she is quite ready yet and they want her to overcome a hoss heel first? They are still having her interact with Brookside so I have to imagine it is still headed that way. Also, how would Indi know that her name is Zoey Serrano unless someone had immediately told her backstage after she was beat down during the commercial break? I like associating Indi and Harley Hudson. They are both likeable people and it’s good when faces have real friends. They would make a fun tag team. Maybe this could turn into another much needed tag team in the Knockouts tag division.

Electric Men’s Tag Title match with Bound for Glory implications

This was a fantastic match with great athleticism, as one might expect. With Slater gunning for Nic Nemeth’s World Title this result made sense and, I’m just happy, they paid off the run that Sosa and Slater have been having in a satisfying way.

ARTICLE CONTINUED BELOW…

Check out the latest episode of “Destination Impact” with Zac Clarke and Jerud Buhagiar, part of the PWTorch Dailycast line-up: CLICK HERE to stream (or search “pwtorch” on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or any other iOS or Android app to subscribe free)

MISSES

The concept of “Option C”

The idea of “Option C” as a way to decide who the next number one contender will be is so ridiculous to me. First off, no one has exercised Option C since Josh Alexander did five years ago in 2021. Why wouldn’t every International Champion just exercise that option? Are they just stupid or are they scared? Secondly, why should the holder of a secondary title just get to arbitrarily decide that they deserve a title shot anyway? They’re the holder of the secondary title for a reason. They haven’t taken that step yet. They shouldn’t just skip the line. If they were consistent with “Option C” I would be more accepting of it but, the fact is, they haven’t been consistent in the motivations or logic of the usage or lack thereof for, at least, the last five years.

Bear Bronson’s victory and “The System” fatigue

If anyone has read my hits & misses since January, they would know that, by no means, am I an Elijah apologist. That being said, why was it necessary for Bear Bronson of all people to defeat him tonight? Bronson is a glorified pin-taker for “The System” and they just beat all the young guns in Lethal Lockdown last Sunday? I just have general System fatigue. They’re all across the show and have been so for seven to eight months now. They’re rather vanilla to me and all of their promos ring identical. I’m okay with them existing, as a faction, but either add new star power or space out there appearances. It’s not weekly worthy, in my opinion.

The Righteous continuing to court BDE

This just feels completely random to me. The addition of BDE wouldn’t make the Righteous feel any more important than they already don’t and BDE considering joining the Righteous doesn’t make much sense either. It’s just a bad fit and an unappealing storyline.

M by Elegance defeating Jada Stone to win the Knockouts TV Tournament and win the KO’s TV Title

Huge miss by TNA here. This was a chance to elevate Stone, who looked great in Lethal Lockdown on Lockdown last Sunday, and have a strong, future Knockouts World Title contender which they greatly lack, at this point. The only way I would be, potentially, willing to admit that I am wrong on this one is if M by Elegance quickly moves away from the Elegance Brand and the strong push is given to her as a singles Knockout act, but I don’t see that happening. Having the inaugural Knockouts TV Title in the Elegance Brand makes the title feel closer to the 24/7 or Speed Titles rather than the IC or US Titles. That is a hard stink to wash away.

Seemingly infinite attacks and kidnappings backstage

Rosemary goes missing and Moose, Cedric Alexander and Matt Hardy all get attacked by a mystery person in consecutive weeks. Why has security not been increased. What are the four “officials” doing about it? This basic gap in logic already makes this angle a likely miss. The second dumb aspect is that I don’t see any logical ways that the attacks on those wrestlers can have any legitimate credible storyline connection, unless, this is the introduction of some big name signing to TNA, like the former Aleister Black. I will take back my criticism if that occurs but, until then, I hate this.

Indi Hartwell wearing the albatross of a Daria Rae storyline

I enjoyed Indi’s genuine promo tonight. She always feels like an authentic person and I feel as though that is why the crowd seems to be increasingly behind her. That being said, Daria Rae inserting herself, for no logical reason, and then Indi dropping lines like “diarrhea” and “put your hair up and square up” (Daria’s former catchphrase when she was in WWE) felt tremendously uncool.

“The 30 Second Takedown” Introduction

They showed a 30-40 second clip and had Hannifin announce it but I still have no idea what the “The 30 Second Takedown” thing, that will air directly following Bound for Glory, is. I’m not saying that it’s a big deal or anything but if you’re going to introduce programming on TNA+ at least explain it in a comprehensible way.

THANK YOU FOR VISITING

HITS Opening segment pitting the Nemeths against Sosa & Slater I greatly enjoyed this opening segment.
