The following is a report originally published here 20 years ago this week\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>WWE Smackdown house show report<br \/>\nSeptember 10, 2006<br \/>\nUncasville, Conn. at Mohegan Sun Arena<br \/>\nReport by Jon Ly, PWTorch.com correspondent<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>First off, they brought the entire Smackdown set to this house show, and I have no idea why. The fist, the 2 Titantrons, and the mini ECW Tron. There was even pyro for the opening video, Booker, Mysterio, Lashley, and Ashley. I was confused all night if this was a TV taping or a house show. I believe it was a house show, because of the type of matches they had. Also, whenever they played the entrance videos, it was reverse as it is on television. Like the &#8216;tunnel&#8217; tron played on the big screens and the actual titantron played on the &#8216;tunnel&#8217; tron. I believe the set helped the atmosphere, as if it was the generic lights and ring set-up, the crowd would have been really bored with the card. All I can say, was that it was my second favorite house show of all time. Ironically, my favorite being the first ever Mohegan Sun Raw house show in June 2002.<\/p>\n<p>Kristal is our ringside announcer for the evening.<\/p>\n<p>(1) Scotty 2 Hotty pinned Jamie Noble with a fruit rollup. I love Noble. Credit it to Josh Matthews. On the old Velocity days, Matthews would call Noble; The Redneck Messiah Jamie By God Noble. I love that super long ring name. Scotty was pretty over actually. Kid Kash came to ringside to interfere, but it backfired, which led to Scottys rollup. Kash flew in for that? Sheesh. Kristal would mistakingly announce Scotty hailing from Westbrook, Mass. When it is actually Maine.<\/p>\n<p>(2) Gregory Helms pinned Jimmy Yang to retain the Cruiserweight Title. Both got on the mic. Akio got some nice kicks in. Yes, he will always be Akio to me. I thought a title change might happen, as I thought this was a TV taping.<\/p>\n<p>(3) Paul London &amp; Brian Kendrick beat Idol Stevens &amp; K.C. James. Sick ending as London jumped off of Spanky&#8217;s back into a Shooting Star Press. So sick. The same feeling I had on last week&#8217;s four-man ringside crash into the table on ECW. That is how and why The Hooligans should be pushed. They are athletically amazing. Too bad they can&#8217;t show this on television. I couldn&#8217;t believe there were 3 matches in a row from ex-ROH guys.<\/p>\n<p>(4) Sylvester Terkay pinned Tatanka with the musclebuster. Turkay almost lost his grip on the finish. I don&#8217;t like Turkay. Yet. It was a good match, dare I say strong style? Okay, I won&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>(5) Ashley beat Kristal, Layla, and Jillian Hall in a dance off. MVP was the special judge. He invited Kristal into the ring, she wasn&#8217;t supposed to be a part of it. Layla was the best, but they give the duke to the blonde. I think. I&#8217;m sorry, it&#8217;s a little blurry. I love Vito&#8217;s music. That&#8217;s about it. It was pretty funny having Regal being very scared of Vito&#8217;s dress. I hate to admit it, but I thought it was very funny. As my friend Joe Mallo once said, &#8220;You are a Ring of Honor fan&#8230; how can you like that stuff&#8221;. It was regarding John Cena at the time he said it, but it applies to Vito here.<\/p>\n<p>(7) Ashley Massaro beat Jillian Hall. Short match.<\/p>\n<p>(8) Kennedy beat Finlay and Bobby Lashley in a triple threat match for the U.S. title. Damn, no Little Bastard tonight. I love all three guys. Finish was funny as Kennedy rolled up Finlay by putting his feet on Lashley. Imagine if Lashley were the ring ropes and you get what I&#8217;m saying.<\/p>\n<p>(9) Rey Mysterio defeated King Booker by DQ in a World Title match. Everyone in the crowd dreaded Booker&#8217;s entrance, but it wasn&#8217;t too bad. Mysterio was so over. Unbelievable. I cannot believe the storylines he has been involved with the past two years. It would drive a normal sized man crazy. The match wasn&#8217;t anything special and it involved the usual bag of tricks. Chavo pushed Rey off the top rope as he was going for a frog splash for the DQ.<\/p>\n<p>Notes: No Matt Hardy, Batista, Undertaker, Boogeyman, or the rumored Chris Benoit. I expected Benoit to show, but maybe it was just a rumor after all. No Batista was disappointing. I judge the superstars popularity on how many shirts people are buying. Rey, Cena, Batista, and RKO shirts were visible. Not much else. The arena seats 10,000, but there were many tarped off areas and of course, the set takes up a lot. From what I could see for available seats, it was about 3\/4 full. Because the set was there, with the video and pyro, it was a very pleasant surprise from the house show I was looking forward to.
