The following is a report originally published here 20 years ago this week\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>ECW house show<br \/>\nSeptember 9, 2006<br \/>\nToms River, N.J.<br \/>\nReport by Dennis Spicacci, PWTorch.com correspondent<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>There was a decent-sized crowd with lots of kids. Everyone got a reaction one way or another, so the crowd was familiar with all the &#8220;extremists.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(1) Stevie Richards pinned Rene Dupree. This was supposed to be Shannon Moore, but we got Stevie instead. Richards played the babyface, which he hasn&#8217;t done too often in his career, if ever. Lots of BWO chants and the predictable USA chants. Richards won with a roll-up as Dupree was complaining to ref Mike Posey about a slow count.<\/p>\n<p>(2) Paul Heyman&#8217;s Personal Enforcers (yes, that&#8217;s how they were introduced) defeated the FBI. The FBI was supposed to wrestle Nekirk &amp; O&#8217;Reilly, but we got the Bashams instead. It didn&#8217;t take long for word to spread to those who didn&#8217;t know that the two masked guys were the Bashams. This match was sloppy and ended when Danny Basham pinned Tony Mamaluke.<\/p>\n<p>(3) Kevin Thorn pinned someone. I&#8217;m not sure who this guy was as it was hard to make out the ring announcer. I checked Deep South&#8217;s website, and he&#8217;s not on there. Matt Striker was the MC for this thing and he was really funny. The actual &#8220;contest&#8221; was nothing special with Kelly getting more fan support. However, rather then proclaiming her the winner, he called them both hookers and by supporting them both, the fans were all pimps. This brought out the Sandman who caned Striker and then had a beer celebration in the crowd on all four sides of the ring.<\/p>\n<p>(5) Tommy Dreamer pinned Mike Knox. Dreamer gave a speech before the match thanking everyone for coming to the show and how the old ECW would always come to NJ for pay-per-views. This match was much of the same between these two. The referee got squashed in the corner by Knox. Dreamer had Knox up for the Spicoli Driver, but Kelly gave Dreamer a low-blow. This prompted Francine to run out and have the catfight spot. Knox shoved Francine to the mat, turned around and walked into a DDT for the pin.<\/p><div id=\"pwtor-1165987492\" class=\"pwtor-content pwtor-entity-placement\"><div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>INTERMISSION<\/p>\n<p>(6) C.M. Punk defeated Danny Doring by submission. Doring did not have a hometown as part of his introduction as he is from Jersey, so they didn&#8217;t want the cheap pop. This match was okay; nothing great. The fans have really taken to Punk in a short amount of time. He got the submission win with the Anaconda Vice.<\/p>\n<p>(7) Rob Van Dam defeated Hardcore Holly in a &#8220;Extreme Rules&#8221; Match. Van Dam got the biggest pop of the night. When he is introduced, they stop his music when the ring announcer says his name, so that everyone can chant it with him. Holly was about to Alabama Slam him on a chair, but Van Dam\u00c2 slid down his back\u00c2 and got the pin.<\/p>\n<p>(8) ECW World Champion Big Show successfully defended against Sabu. I didn&#8217;t get this match at all. Sabu kept trying to bring a chair into the ring, but referee Scott Armstrong would stop him. It made it seem like either Sabu was too stupid to understand the rules or that he knows that he can&#8217;t beat the Big Show without using weapons. Big Show seemed to have fun antagonizing the crowd and briefly won them over when he stomped the hell out of one of the chairs. Holly came back out to interfere on Show&#8217;s behalf, but Van Dam counteracted him. Sabu was distracted long enough\u00c2 to turn around and walk right into a chokeslam.<\/p>\n<p>This was a fun show. Although it is a WWE show, it&#8217;s very different from going to see Raw or Smackdown, likely because of the smaller venue. In case you had forgotten that it was a WWE show, all you had to do was visit the souvenir stand. Amidst the ECW shirts and other products, was the new Vince McMahon DVD.
