O-Khan targeted Oskar\u2019s chair with a bunch of chair shots, but Yuto-ice kicked him out of the ring. Oskar struggled to go for the KOB due to his damaged knee, allowing Henare to attack Yuto from behind. Oskar put Henare in a sleeper hold and Yuto shut him down with a roundhouse kick. Yuto grabbed the mic and called Henare and O-Khan out for doing nothing with the tag belts. Yuto mocked Henare for leaving to do shows in AEW and dared Will Ospreay to come over since he also held one of their belts.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>(4) AARON WOLF &amp; TAICHI vs. TMDK (Ryohei Oiwa &amp; Zack Sabre Jr)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taichi knocked Oiwa down with an enzuigiri while Wolf knocked ZSJ off the apron. Taichi Oiwa took Taichi down with a Gedo Clutch and Oiwa responded with a roll-up. ZSJ tagged in and clocked Taichi with an uppercut, only for Taichi to shut him down with a big boot. Wolf knocked Oiwa off the apron and crushed ZSJ with a corner clothesline. ZSJ attacked Wolf with uppercuts before countering a backslide with an abdominal stretch. Wolf took ZSJ down with a judo throw, only for ZSJ to counter his elbow drop with an armbar. Wolf reversed ZSJ\u2019s armbar, but ZSJ retaliated with a modified crossface. ZSJ blocked an ankle lock attempt with a roll-up and blasted Wolf with a Penalty kick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oiwa crushed Wolf with a senton before receiving an arm drag. Taichi knocked ZSJ off the apron and cornered Oiwa with a corner clothesline and a Xploder, followed by a roundhouse kick for a two count. Taichi tore off his pants, but Oiwa shut him down with a Tenzan suplex for a two count. Oiwa put Taichi in a Headlock, until Taichi transitioned into a dragon sleeper. ZSJ put Taichi in a sleeper hold and shocked Wolf with a Zack Driver. ZSJ laid Taichi out with a bodyslam, setting him up for Oiwa\u2019s diving splash and a two count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taichi blocked The Grip with a Dangerous Backdrop for a close two count. Taichi shut Oiwa down with a lariat, but Oiwa blocked a Dangerous Backdrop with a Headlock. Oiwa tried to go for the Grip, only for Taichi to slap him and nail him with an enzuigiri. Oiwa immediately bounced back and knocked Taichi out with the Grip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNERS: TMDK at 10:08 (***1\/4)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: Ultimately just an undercard tag match, but still a fun watch with another strong showing from Oiwa and some exchanges between Wolf and ZSJ. Not much to say here, just that I wouldn\u2019t mind a rematch between Wolf and ZSJ down the line.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; A video package was shown, recapping the rivalry between Jeff Cobb and Callum Newman.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>(5) JEFF COBB vs. CALLUM NEWMAN<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newman clocked Cobb with a big boot, only for Cobb to take him down with a shoulder tackle and a dropkick. Cobb pummeled Newman down with a bunch of forearm shots, until the referee stopped him. Cobb Irish-whipped Newman into the corner and smacked him with an elbow strike to the back. Newman avoided a corner splash and nailed Cobb with a kick to the back. Cobb Irish-whipped Newman into the guardrail, but Newman managed to ram him into it. Newman blasted Cobb away with a running dropkick and sent him over the guardrail with a running kick to the face. Back in the ring, Cobb shocked Newman with a back body drop, damaging his knee in the process. Cobb nailed Newman with a bunch of shoulder thrusts and planted him with a release back suplex. Cobb put Newman down with an uranage, followed by a standing moonsault. Newman caught Cobb with a spinning hook kick and a couple of jabs and forearms. Newman nailed Cobb with knees to the head and a pump knee, but Cobb retaliated with a Spin Cycle and a German suplex. Before Cobb could react, Newman fired up to take him down with a German suplex and a lariat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newman teased going for an OsCutter, only to crack Cobb with a thrust kick. Newman swept Cobb off his feet and nailed him with a diving double stomp to the back, setting him up for Kiss the Crown and a two count. Cobb surprised Newman with an F-5000, but he kicked out at two. Cobb rammed Newman into the corner and dropped him with a lariat. Newman shocked Cobb with an inside cradle and shoved him in the referee\u2019s way, setting him up for a low blow, Make Way and the three count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Callum Newman at 13:53 (***1\/4)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: A pretty good match that really meshed their styles very well. It\u2019s been fun seeing Cobb actually get to wrestle again after his failed WWE stint. I was slightly worried they would immediately have him beat Newman after his world title run, but I\u2019m happy Nemwan got the win. I get that Newman is the heel, but I wish most of his matches didn\u2019t have such a similar finish.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><strong>(6) KONOSUKE TAKESHITA vs. SHUN SKYWALKER &#8211; NJPW World Television Championship<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skywalker surprised Takeshita with an arm drag into a Seatbelt Clutch for a two count. Takeshita blocked a hurracarrana and drove Skywalker into the corner with a forearm shot. Skywalker knocked Takeshita off the apron with a pump kick, making him crash into the guardrail. Takeshita Irish-whipped Skywalker into the guardrail and caught him with a back elbow. Skywalker blocked a diving senton with his knees and nailed him with a double chop. Takeshita raised his knees to block a standing moonsault, but Skywalker went for a Boston Crab instead. Takeshita managed to crawl and reach the ropes, only for Skywalker to gouge his eyes. Skywalker withstood a pump kick, but missed a lariat, allowing Takeshita to shut him down with a Takeshita Line. Takeshita crashed into Skywalker with a Tope con Hilo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back in the ring, Skywalker blocked a corner strike with a boot to the face. Takeshita fired up and attacked Skywalker with a flurry of forearm and elbow strikes. Skywalker caught Takeshita with a pump kick, but Takeshita landed on his feet off a German suplex attempt. They nailed each other with boots to the face, but Skywalker quickly shut Takeshita down with a running kick for a one count. Skywalker dropped Takeshita with the Side Wonder uranage, only for Takeshita to respond with a Blue Thunderbomb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ren Narita showed up to distract Takeshita, allowing Skywalker to blind him with powder. Skywalker immediately crushed Takeshita with a moonsault knee drop for a nearfall. Narita distracted the referee again, only for Takeshita to drive Skywalker into Dick Togo and spike him with a poison rana. Takeshita cracked Skywalker with a Power Drive Knee for a close nearfall. Skywalker managed to counter Raging Fire with Skyfall, followed by a delayed Blue Thunderbomb for a two count. Skywalker immediately spiked Takeshita with another Skyfall for the victory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Shun Skywalker at 10:12 (New NJPW World Television Champion) (**3\/4)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; After the match, House of Torture kept on attacking Konosuke Takeshita, until Toru Yano showed up to make the save.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: An alright effort from both guys with some solid in-ring action interrupted by your usual House of Torture shenanigans. The ending sequence was fun, but I already tuned out after the interference began. From what I heard Skywalker is a potentially fascinating character, but I don\u2019t know if we\u2019ll ever see any of that as part of HoT. Toru Yano making the save, makes me think he\u2019ll get the next title shot which could be either a very entertaining match or a very obnoxious one.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; A video package was shown, recapping Claudio Castagnoli\u2019s challenge to Shingo Takagi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>(7) SHINGO TAKAGI vs. CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Castagnoli attacked Takagi from behind and stomped him down before taking him out with a big boot. Castagnoli smashed Takagi\u2019s head into the turnbuckle and smacked him with an uppercut. Takagi caught Castagnoli with a hip toss and clotheslined him out of the ring. Castagnoli blocked a plancha and drove Takagi into the guardrail with an uppercut. Castagnoli dropped Takagi with a bodyslam on the entrance ramp. Back in the ring, Castagnoli laid Takagi out with a bodyslam and crushed him with a double stomp to the chest. Castagnoli put Takagi in a crossface, until he was able to reach the ropes with his foot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They exchanged elbow strikes, until Takagi countered an uppercut with a Gory Bomb. They beat each other up with a barrage of corner clotheslines and uppercuts in the corner. Takagi caught Castagnoli with a diving Tornado DDT and laid him out with a vertical suplex for a two count. Takagi nailed Castagnoli with a sliding Pumping Bomber, but Castagnoli responded immediately with an uppercut. They traded forearm shots, until Castagnoli clocked Takagi with a bunch of uppercuts. Castagnoli knocked Takagi down with a running uppercut and smashed his head into the turnbuckle. Castagnoli sat Takagi atop the turnbuckle and put him down with a gutwrench superplex.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Takagi blocked a suicide dive with an elbow strike and sat Castagnoli atop the turnbuckle. Takagi dropped Castagnoli with a superplex, but struggled to get up to his feet. Castagnoli blocked Made in Japan and nailed Castagnoli with a lariat. They exchanged lariats, until Takagi stopped Castagnoli on the middle rope with a GTR. Takagi immediately dropped Castagnoli with Made in Japan for a two count. Castagnoli picked Takagi\u2019s leg and trapped him in a lengthy Giant Swing, setting him up for a lariat and a two count. Castagnoli cracked Takagi with an uppercut and laid him out with a Riccola Bomb for a nearfall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Takagi countered a powerbomb with a hurracarrana and shut Castagnoli down with a Pumping Bomber, setting him up for the Burning Dragon and a two count. Takagi immediately clocked Castagnoli with a sliding elbow strike and finished him off with the Last of the Dragon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Shingo Takagi at 15:41 (***3\/4)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: Just a very entertaining and hard-hitting brawl between two excellent workers. Claudio might not be a regular, but he absolutely did not feel out of place in New Japan. I\u2019m assuming this will lead to Takagi challenging for a title soon since I kind of thought Castagnoli would win this one.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; A video package was shown, recapping the rivalry between Gabe Kidd and Drilla Moloney.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>(8) GABE KIDD vs. DRILLA MOLONEY &#8211; IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They traded shoulder tackles, until Kidd slapped Moloney. They moved on to forearm strikes, until Kidd chose to roll out of the ring. Kidd returned to the ring and started a chop exchange, only for Moloney to knock him out of the ring. Moloney nailed Kidd with a dropkick, but Kidd rammed him into the apron\u2019s edge. Kidd drove Moloney into the guardrail and dropped him with a back suplex through a table.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moloney managed to return to the ring in time, only for Kidd to shut him down with a back suplex. Kidd shut Moloney down with elbow strikes to the back and choked him out with the ropes before pushing down the referee. Kidd sent Moloney out of the ring with an elbow strike. Moloney tried to fight back with chops, until Kidd smacked him with an elbow to the head. Moloney ducked out of a rebound lariat and planted Kidd with a Death Valley Driver. Kidd evaded a suplex, but Moloney still laid him out with a spinebuster. Moloney missed a diving elbow drop, allowing Kidd to shut him down with a sitout powerbomb for a two count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moloney blocked a running knee strike and took Kidd down with a clothesline, followed by a sling blade and a diving elbow drop for a two count. Kidd shut Moloney down with a couple of lariats, but he kicked out at two. Kidd immediately spiked Moloney with a brainbuster for a nearfall. Moloney fired up after receiving a chop to the back and blasted Kidd with Gore. Moloney dropped Kidd with a pop up powerbomb and another Gore before lifting him up. Kidd kicked the referee out of the ring seconds before receiving the Drilla Killa, leaving no one to make the count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kidd cracked Moloney with the belt and threw him back in the ring. Moloney shocked Kidd with the Drilla Killa, but his foot was on the ropes during the pinfall. Moloney tried to go for an avalanche Drilla Killa, only for Kidd to shokh im with an avalanche hurracarrana. Kidd laid Moloney out with a lariat and a piledriver for a nearfall. Kidd tried to fire himself up by smashing his head into the turnbuckle, but hurt himself due to his damaged neck. Moloney blocked a piledriver, only for Kidd to counter a power move with a Tombstone Piledriver for\u00a0 a close two count. Kidd immediately shut Moloney down with another piledriver for a shocking nearfall. Moloney struggled to get up before Kidd finished him off with a fisherman buster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Gabe Kidd at 19:37 (Still IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion) (***3\/4)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; After the match, Gabe Kidd said that there were no worthy challengers and his next defense would be at the Tokyo Dome to defend his belt. Shota Umino showed up on the entrance way, only for Kidd to make fun of his concussion from earlier this year. Kidd started a brawl, only for Umino to lay him out with a lariat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: A great rematch between the former friends who work a very stiff bout to match the intensity of their rivalry. However, this match did have an unwarranted ref bump that didn\u2019t really add much to the action. Still a fun watch with a post-match angle to set up Umino\u2019s retribution at a future show.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; A video package was shown, recapping the rivalry between Yota Tsuji and Hirooki Goto.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>(9) YOTA TSUJI vs. HIROOKI GOTO (w\/Yoshi-Hashi) &#8211; IWGP Heavyweight Championship<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They traded wrist locks, until Tsuji caught Goto with a gut punch. Goto knocked Tsuji off his feet with a shoulder tackle and took him down with a shoulder tackle. Tsuji caught Goto with a knee strike and a double stomp to the face, followed by a sliding dropkick. They exchanged right hands and forearm shots, until Tsuji drove Goto into the guardrail. Goto drove Tsuji into the guardrail and blasted him with a suicide dive into it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back in the ring, Tsuji hit Goto with a gutbuster and laid him out with a bodyslam, but missed a follow-up big splash. Tsuji caught Goto with a backbreaker, but he kicked out at two. Goto kicked Tsuji away, only for Tsuji to shut him down with a couple of backbreakers and put him in a Boston Crab. Goto managed to reach the ropes, but Tsuji immediately shut him down with kicks to the face. Tsuji blasted Goto with a chop to the chest before receiving a running lariat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tsuji missed a pump knee into the corner, allowing Goto to nail him with a corner clothesline. Goto beat Tsuji with clotheslines and Muramasa, setting him up for a Saito suplex and a two count. Tsuji caught Goto off-guard with a backbreaker and crushed him with a Curb Stomp. Goto blocked the Silver Lining and avoided the Marlowe Stomp before he and Tsuji hit each other with lariats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tsuji shut Goto down with a flatliner and a German suplex, followed by a pump knee and the Marlowe Stomp for a two count. Tsuji sat Goto atop the turnbuckle, but Goto blocked an avalanche hurracarrana, making him fall on the mat. Goto blocked a superplex and dropped Tsuji with Kaiten for a two count. Goto knocked Tsuji off his feet with a headbutt, only for Tsuji to take him down with an inside cradle. Tsuji withstood a lariat and took Goto down with a short Gene Blaster, followed by a full one for a nearfall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tsuji evaded a lariat and took Goto down with the Silver Lining before laying him out with the Guerrero Special for a close two count. Goto blocked the Fire Blaster with a leg lariat, leaving both men down. Goto shocked Tsuji with a strike to the back of the head and put him down with Shouten Kai for a close two count. Tsuji blocked the GTR, but Goto shut him down with a headbutt. Goto immediately cracked Tsuji with an E. Honda running headbutt. Tsuji caught Goto off-guard with a short Fire Blaster before finishing him off with a full Fire Blaster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WINNER: Yota Tsuji at 24:01 (Still IWGP Heavyweight Champion) (****1\/4)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: These two have outstanding chemistry and once again prove it here in another outstanding main event. Goto gave it his all and pushed Tsuji to his limit, even though I never fully bought into him actually regaining the belt. Still a top-notch encounter and another great showing from Tsuji as world champion.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; After the match, Yota Tsuji and Ryohei Oiwa had a confrontation, ahead of their match at King of Pro Wrestling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Pomares\u2019 Analysis: This is one of my most anticipated matches all year long. Oiwa has been good for a while, but I could not have predicted how fast his rise would have been. I believe Tsuji\u2019s reign will continue, but Oiwa has already shocked the world once, so I\u2019m not going to ignore the possibility of him doing it again.)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>FINAL THOUGHTS:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Once the first three tag matches were finished, this turned into a pretty fun show. The main event lived up to the hype with both Tsuji and Goto delivering in a match worth going out of your way to see. Takagi\/Castagnoli and Kidd\/Moloney were both great hard-hitting bouts in spite of minor flaws and Newman\/Cobb was a fun return to form for Jeff Cobb. The only blemish on the show is probably Takeshita\/Skywalker which was decent, but was bogged down by House of Torture nonsense. However, as enjoyable as this show was, it felt lacking as a major New Japan show.
