There was a lot to like about it. Their interplay was strong, as were their performances. I’m okay with Reigns trying to recruit Zayn to help The Bloodline against The 946, as well as Zayn refusing to help. My problem with the segment was when they were arguing over which of their titles is the more important. That stuff is stupid and unproductive. I already don’t care about the Crown Jewel concept (beyond the Saudi Arabia of it all), and this doesn’t do anything to make me care more about their match. So while I liked parts of this opening segment, it is a marginal Hit because it didn’t end as strong as it started.

Penta vs. Breakker – HIT: This was a good match between Penta and Bron Breakker which was set up on last week’s Raw. It was doubtful that WWE would have a clean finish for this match. Given that, the way they set up the ending with Je’von Evans countering the cheating from The Vision worked well. The wrestling between Penta and Breakker was quite good. Penta had to win to keep his momentum going as Mr. Money in the Bank. Breakker needed to be protected, so this worked well enough for that. This also continues the build towards an eventual Breakker vs. Evans match.

Sky & Green vs. Judgment Day – HIT: This was a good tag team match to continue the build between Chelsea Green and Liv Morgan for their meaningless Crown Jewel match, as well as setting up Iyo Sky as the next challenger for Raquel Rodriguez’s Intercontinental Title. I was glad that Green didn’t take another loss. Sky getting the pin for their team gets her into that IC Title picture while getting Green some needed momentum after her loss to Roxanne Perez last week.

Funko Pop – MISS: Making fun of JD McDonagh for having a big head is okay in general, but the Funko Pop figure bit has been lame. Overall, I like Joe Tessitore, but he was way too much like Michale Cole in his over-the-top geeky responses to all of these jokes. The match quality between McDonagh and Joe Hendry was fine, but the backdrop was far too silly. Maybe the destruction of Hendry’s guitar over the head of the mascot will be the end of the silliness. That’s probably too much to hope for.

ARTICLE CONTINUED BELOW…

Check out the latest episode of the Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Post-show covering the latest episode of Raw: CLICK HERE to stream (or search “wade keller” on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or any other iOS or Android app to subscribe free)

Valkyria vs. Vice – HIT: Lyra Valkyria’s obsession with Bayley is costing her. Not only did it set up this match against Lola Vice, which she didn’t want, but it also helped lead to her losing it. The match itself was good. WWE is doing a nice job of establishing Vice, particularly her spinning backfist finisher, which looked very strong here. The no-disqualification match next week between Valkyria and Bayley should be very good and blow off their feud.

Gable vs. Mysterio vs. Lee – HIT: This was a great IC Title match with a predictable finish. I know some people were buying into Rey Mysterio possibly wining to become the new WWE Champion, but there was no way that Chad Gable was going to lose the title before defending it against Ethan Page. But Gable, Mysterio and Dragon Lee put on such a great match that the predicability of it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of it. It made sense to have this match given the storyline between Gable and the luchadores. The attack from Ethan afterwards should finally get him his IC Title match. Big Cass also being involved attacking Mysterio and Lee was interesting. He didn’t seem to be working with Ethan, but with Rusev healthy again after his recent injury, a budding faction is a possibility.

Bloodline – 946 – HIT: The show had a strong ending with The Bloodline finally getting the better of The 946 in the big brawl. The 946 looked to have the advantage over The Usos, only to have Solo Sikoa attack Royce Keys from behind. That gave them the upper hand for awhile before the numbers caught up with them. Reigns made the save after pretending to leave the arena earlier in the show. That worked well enough. The crowd popped huge after he got in the ring to have them square off and ultimately brawl with The 946. Clearly this is setting up War Games. But who will fill out the teams? Jacob Fatu as the fifth member of The Bloodline would make the most sense, but you can’t count out a swerve with him joining The 946 despite the fact that they ran him over with a car a few weeks ago. If that happens, does LA Knight reluctantly join? If it doesn’t happen, then who else will be part of team 946? And will this eventually lead to a Keys vs. Reigns match for the World Title? Even if it hasn’t been consistent, I also appreciate that for this match set up, they are clearly positioning The Bloodline as the babyfaces and tThe 946 as the heels.

(Jon Mezzera is PWTorch.com’s WWE Raw Hits & Misses Specialist, providing his point of view for Raw each week.
