Zayn was good in his unhinged rant, but it did go on a little too long. Je’von Evans was also good in his interruption. This set up Pearce making an impromptu WWE Title match which was nice for the fans, but doesn’t make much sense. Why does Zayn have to defend his title multiple times a week, but Roman Reigns only defends his every few months? Earlier this year, why didn’t Pearce make Liv Morgan defend her World Title for months? How does he have the authority to make a WWE Title match on Raw when that title “belongs” to Smackdown? You don’t want a heel to have actual things to complain about that make sense, like having to defend a title multiple times in a week. So, I’ll call this a minor Hit.

Zayn vs. Evans – HIT: I won’t complain too much about this match being made in an illogical way, because it was a good match. I suspect that it will end up better than Zayn’s defense against Trick Williams will be on Smackdown, but time will tell. WWE isn’t going to take the title off of Zayn before Crown Jewel, so the outcome was never in doubt, but they still had a good match with some fairly believable near falls. The bit of a distraction with Penta and Bron Breakker at ringside worked well enough to help Zayn get the win. The post-match beating with The Vision destroying both Penta and Evans worked very well to set up the WWE Tag Team Championship match at the PLE. The Vision comes across as so much more intimidating and strong as a faction when Austin Theory and Maxxine Dupri aren’t there.

Bayley vs. Valkyria – HIT: This was the best match of the night. It was a fitting end (presumably) to the long feud between Bayley and Lyra Valkyria. These two beat the crap out of each other. There were several multiple memorable spots, the most memorable of which was when Bayley leaped through the ropes, crashing into Valkyria through the table. They seemed to find a way to use just about every weapon that ever gets used in a WWE no disqualification match. It was physical, intense, and fun to watch from start to finish. Bayley got the win, which will push Valkyria further into the abyss. I’m curious to see what they have planned for both of them going forward.

ARTICLE CONTINUED BELOW…

Check out the latest episode of the Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Post-show covering the latest episode of Raw: CLICK HERE to stream (or search “wade keller” on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or any other iOS or Android app to subscribe free)

Sky vs. Rodriguez – HIT: Iyo Sky continues to be the best babyface in WWE. She is a great performer in and out of the ring. The fans are consistently behind her. She was able to overcome Raquel Rodriguez’s huge size advantage to get the win in the end. This should set up Sky for a future Intercontinental Championship match.

Follow up on 946-Bloodline – MISS: Last week’s show ended with a huge angle with The Bloodline coming together with Roman Reigns leading them to finally get the better of The 946. The follow up from that angle on this week’s show left something to be desired. The video package was fine. Having Royce Keys give a follow up short promo in a pre-taped video where he challenged Solo Sikoa for a match next week wasn’t particularly good. It was okay, but it wasn’t that strong. Then we got a reply from Sikoa with The Usos and Reigns oddly standing behind him. We know that Reigns wasn’t there this week, so clearly this was recorded last week. But, Keys made the challenge this week. The timing of it was off. Many fans are speculating that this was done with AI, or at the very least with Solo solo in front of a green screen. I’m not sure how it was filmed, but it wasn’t good.

Morgan vs. Lynch – MISS: I would love to give this main event with Liv Morgan defending her World Title against Becky Lynch a Hit. The wrestling action was certainly Hit-worthy. The match went 18 minutes and was very good until the lame ending. Having Rodriguez and Perez simply breaking up the pin at the end to save their Judgment Day friend causing an obvious DQ was a big disappointment, but not surprising. The fact that it isn’t surprising is part of the problem. These types of title match finishes is one of biggest reasons why I groaned so loudly when they put the title back on Morgan at Money in the Bank. Same old crap. And after pulling the rug out from under the fans with this horrible ending to the main event, they teased a Tiffany Stratton MITB cash in, only to have Dominik Mysterio pull Morgan out of the ring to stop the cash in from happening. So, the fans didn’t get a real finish to the title match, nor an actual MITB cash in either.

(Jon Mezzera is PWTorch.com’s WWE Raw Hits & Misses Specialist, providing his point of view for Raw each week.
