We then got a creepy Halloween-themed narrated opening interspersed with the storylines, thin as they were, that led to this show.

-Danhausen’s music brought him out as host of this year’s show. A gaggle of mini-Danhausens were with him. He welcomed everyone to the show and said to let the Havoc begin.

(1) TAVION HEIGHTS vs. MYLES BORNE – Weapons Wild Match

Heights was dressed as Freddy Krueger while Borne was dressed as Jason Voorhees. Might as well lay it on thick right away. Borne used a kendo stick for a while but Heights suckered him out and used a fire extinguisher on him. Heights grabbed a table, branded as usual, and set it up near the announce table. Borne took a chair and swung it at Heights, who moved, so the shot went to the post. Heights laid out Borne and the match went to split-screen. I’d forgotten how much more intrusive that feels on a premium show. [c]

Borne controlled and sat Heights in a corner, then placed a trash can against him. Borne ran the length of the ring but Heights recovered and threw the can into Borne. Heights hit a pretty overhead belly-to-belly into the corner. Borne used a tool box and then emptied nuts and bolts onto the mat, and Heights fought off a cutter to drop Borne onto the pile. They went to the apron where Borne hit the DDT. He rolled Heights inside and ran at him with a chair, but ate a shot. Borne hit a uranage onto the chair and covered for a long two. Borne grabbed the bottom half of the steps but Heights swung the chair at him and Borne draped over it. Heights slammed the chair over Borne’s back, then Pillmanized Borne’s ankle and transitioned to an ankle lock. Borne teased tapping several times, and then finally flipped forward to yank Heights into the corner.

Both guys fought up in a corner. Borne yanked the near cameraman’s camera away from him and used it on Heights, which pushed him off the corner and through the table that was set up so long ago. Borne rolled Heights into the ring and hit Borne Again through the can.

WINNER: Myles Borne at 14:45.

(Wells’s Analysis: Borne remains undefeated (4-0) against Heights, so I’m not sure why the feud keeps going. Borne is the better overall prospect, but Heights has something to offer, so I’m surprised he still didn’t get off the schneid here)

-Tristan Angels was hanging with two attractive young women who clearly didn’t really want his arms around them. He was in a house of horrors and said he could keep the women safe, but they were way less scared than he was. Sean Legacy popped out of a trash can to scare Angels, and the women left with Legacy.

-Shots through the years of Halloween Havoc (not WCW, but NXT) were shown.

-Naraku and Shiloh Hill had a trippy cinematic segment where Hill had been sprayed with orange mist and was hallucinating a Halloween scene (that we could also see). He had white contacts on. “To be continued…”

(2) ZARIA vs. IZZI DAME

The most compelling part of this was Dame turning down a shot at Zaria’s championship despite wanting a match with her, but it was seemingly never addressed. Zaria stared daggers at Dame, who entered in the manner of Glinda the Good in The Wizard of Oz because that’s the role Zaria played in high school. If that sentence doesn’t make sense to you, just trust that this has been a weird feud.

Zaria evaded a few shots to hit some ground & pound, treating the match as the blood feud that it is. Zaria hit a body slam but Izzi hit one afterward. Zaria hit her corner deadlift and then yanked Dame to the corner a few times. Dame yanked Zaria to the corner and the match went to split-screen. [c]

Zaria hit a leaping lariat. Dame went up and leapt right into a right. Fall-away slam by Zaria. They fought in a corner and Dame blocked Zaria as she was up in the tree of woe. Dame got bumped to the ring and Zaria went for a moonsault but missed. Dame hit a leaping jawbreaker for a long two. They hit their feet for some yay-boo strikes. Zaria ran the ropes into a back elbow. Huge chokeslam for two by Dame. Dame went to ground & pound. Dame set up Zaria in a corner but Zaria put up a knee. Zaria hit a spear but got distracted by several images of Dame dressed as Glinda. Both women nearly hit finishers. Dame wanted to use Zaria’s belt against her but Zaria got it away. Zaria got her belt but Dame hit a knee right into it and into Zaria’s face. It was good for three, so apparently it really as simple as Dame not wanting a title match because she was going to win and they didn’t want Zaria to lose her championship. Into the camera, she said “The title’s next!” Uh…you could have had it right now, though…?

WINNER: Izzi Dame at 12:55. [c]

(Wells’s Analysis: The two worked a good match together, but the story of Dame not wanting a championship match only to declare for one after the match is idiotic at best)

-Hank & Tank, as well as Romeo Moreno & Noam Dar, met in front of the Dusty Cup backstage to have a mostly-friendly chat about their upcoming finals match in the tournament. They all put themselves over and the scene…just kept going.

-Rob Stone, backstage, ran into The Vanity Project, who went at him about the way he treats them. He said if they don’t respect the rules, he’s going to hate them. He gave them a six-man tag this week with Rey Fenix, Dragon Lee and Chad Gable.

-Tatum Paxley and Dave LaGreca talked with Blake Howard about what’s still to come tonight. Howard was dressed as Mean Gene. They threw to the wheel. Emily Agard and Danhausen spun it. It landed on Very Nice Very Evil Match. Danhausen admitted he didn’t know what it was so he made it up on the fly. He said there are no rules and falls count anywhere. Well, at least it’s a half step up from a simple street fight. [c]

(3) ZILLA FATU vs. CHARLIE DEMPSEY (w/Birthright) – Very Nice Very Evil Match (Falls Count Anywhere)

Fatu was dressed as Scorpion from Mortal Kombat to a strong reaction. Dempsey went at Fatu before the bell and put the boots to him early, and worked Fatu’s arm over his own shoulder. Dempsey punished the midsection and then hit a gut-wrench suplex. Fatu reversed a hip toss into one of his own, then set up Dempsey in the tree of woe. Fatu ran for a body block, but Dempsey bridged up and out of trouble. Dempsey hit a suplex with a bridge for two. Fatu blocked Dempsey to the mat and Dempsey was bumped to the floor. Fatu went out after Dempsey and beat Dempsey’s ailing hand into the announce table, then chopped Dempsey a few times. Fatu tried to use the steps, but Stacks and Uriah Connors went at him. Lexis King gave chase with a shovel, but Fatu intercepted it. The match went to split-screen. [c]

Fatu stepped on the face of the shovel to slam it up into Dempsey’s junk. Dempsey charged Fatu to a corner where a metal grate had been set up, and smashed Fatu into it. He covered for two. Dempsey tried to smash a pumpkin into Fatu’s face, but Fatu moved and it hit King. Connors and Stacks helped Dempsey and they triple-teamed Fatu using the steps.

The match went back into the ring and Stacks gave Dempsey a chain. Dempsey hit the octopus stretch and used the chain against Fatu’s worked arm and hand. Fatu fought to his feet and hit a lariat, and then another. Standing senton by Fatu. Fatu fought off King, Stacks and Connors, using them as weapons against each other. Fatu used the chain and did Scorpion’s “Get Over Here!” taunt and dropped Dempsey. Both guys sold on the mat. Fatu set up his finisher but Dempsey blocked it with the shovel. Fatu hit it on a third effort, and then went up in the corner and hit a frog splash. Did anyone try to cover outside the ring during the break? If not, why the stipulation?

WINNER: Zilla Fatu at 13:14.

(Wells’s Analysis: About a month ago I thought Birthright was being pushed, but Fatu has utterly buried them. He repeatedly destroyed them without help no matter how many of the group was against him)

-Shiloh Hill continued hallucinating scary things, but he loved it. He conversed normally with horror figures. Of course, his bizarre charisma made the bizarre scene work. Eventually, he was cornered by a couple of guys, but he beat them up, laughing all the while. He went through another disorienting room. To be continued…

-MMA fighter Michael Chandler has been tapped to officiate the Unsanctioned match this Wednesday due between Cruz Montana and Dion Lennox.

-Earlier today, Montana and Lennox sat on opposite sides of a table. Montana said in this match, nobody and nothing can save Lennox. He said he’ll unload the clip and Lennox won’t survive. Lennox said Montana went way past his breaking point and this is what Lennox wants. He said this focused, vicious version of Montana is what he wanted all along. He said he’s a machine running on discipline, and he’s going to break him again. He told Montana to tell his daughter not to watch, because he’s just another deadbeat dad with a broken promise. Montana got up and sat on the table near Lennox. He said he made a mistake his mommy and daddy can’t get him out of. He said Lennox is going to feel helpless and he’ll beat Lennox within an inch of his life, and Dion Lennox will be a thing of the past. He said “see y’all Wednesday.”

-Chantel Monroe talked herself up in the mirror. Nikkita Lyons, dressed as Snow White, liked Monroe’s energy. Thea Hail and Skylar Raye just barely put up with them. In a prop coffin below, Lizzy Rain popped out when her name was said, scaring and scattering Lyons. Hail laughed and pointed at Monroe, who was scared also.

-A recap of Wren Sinclair sneaking into and winning the battle royal to get this match was shown.

-Naraku stalked Shiloh Hill in the House of Horrors. He passed through a costume shop where he fought off some guys who appeared through the clothing. He laughed off some nightmare figures and fought some Hills Have Eyes-inspired characters. To be continued…

-Wren Sinclair entered dressed as Scarlet Witch, but the headpiece wasn’t very interested in participating. It almost fell off a few times but she managed to keep it on.

(4) WREN SINCLAIR vs. KELANI JORDAN (c) – NXT Women’s Championship match

Mike Rome handled formal introductions. Kelani was dressed as a…Thundercats character? Maybe it’s Scar from the Lion King? They tied up and battled around the ring early. Sinclair took control and Jordan begged off under a rope to boos. Jordan raked Sinclair’s back but Sinclair slammed Jordan afterward and hit a headlock and clubbed Jordan overhead. Jordan hit a rana and a dropkick and the match went to commercial with no split-screen. Seriously, we went to commercial with split-screen all night but a championship match didn’t warrant it? [c]

Sinclair nailed a kick but missed a charge. Lani put the boots to Sinclair. Sinclair hit a bulldog for two. Lani hit a legdrop and covered for two. Sinclair threw rights to get back into it but Jordan hit a springboard splash in the corner for two. Northern Lights suplex for two. Sinclair absorbed some shots and threw some huge palm strikes. Rope run and a lariat by Sinclair. Jordan rolled up Sinclair for two but Sinclair bridged out and hit a double-arm suplex. Wren hit a neckbreaker over the top rope and flew in for a high cross-body for two. Both women got rollups for two.

Jordan nailed a superkick and went for her finishing moonsault, but missed and got rolled up for two. Lani hit a springboard to drop down on Sinclair’s arm. [c]

The two exchanged rights and kicks. Jordan hit an overhead kick and a nice shoulder breaker. Kelani went up and nailed a beautiful frog splash for a long two. Jordan went to an armbar. Vic, quite correctly, called the shoulder breaker “Papa Shango-esque.” Fitting on Halloween. Sinclair airplaned Jordan and dropped her for two. Jordan rolled up and trapped Sinclair, but Sinclair artfully reversed into the Final Wrench. Jordan took Sinclair to the edge of the ropes and charged her out to break. Jordan rolled Sinclair into the ring and hit a perfect 450 splash for two. She went up for a moonsault but ate feet. Inside cradle got two for Sinclair. She went to the Final Wrench again. Jordan rolled through but Sinclair held on. Jordan finally got out of it by pushing off a corner and rolling up Sinclair. It was a weird angle for the rollup so it was kind of confusing in the moment, but Jordan retained.

WINNER: Kelani Jordan at 18:39. [c]

(Wells’s Analysis: These two worked very well together throughout and the match went long enough that it seemed like Sinclair could win; in addition, with Jordan dipping her toe into the main roster, she could be dropping the championship anytime. Sinclair remains a bridesmaid but she definitely delivered again)

-Naraku and Hill fought through the house of horrors and broke through the perch, live. Vic said he didn’t know what dimension they came out of.

(5) SHILOH HILL vs. NARAKU

They went to the ring and started the match, complete with the ref, but there was no bell to start the match. Oh boy, that annoys me. I guess it got to the crowd, too, who chanted “ring the bell.” Both guys got early near-falls. Booker complained about the bell and Vic said “Ding ding ding. You just heard it.” Naraku spit mist but Hill nullified it with a spitting fog. Hill hit his finisher.

WINNER: Shiloh Hill at…two hours? Two minutes? Time unclear

-Rob Stone said to CM Punk, on the phone, that he got his message. He hung up. Kelani Jordan showed up and said she just proved she can do it all on her own. Jordan asked who it was, and Stone said in the spirit of Halloween, it’s a mystery. Halloween isn’t about mysteries, but it almost worked.

-Monroe, LaGreca and Paxley again talked about NXT’s upcoming shows and tonight’s final match.

-Kam Hendrix walked up on Danhausen, who put over his athletic ability. He wanted to clone Hendrix and went to find his machine. Hendrix laughed off the scientists that tried to scare him, but one of them was EK Prosper, who laid him out, continuing their issue from Prosper’s title shot a couple of weeks ago.

-Vic promoted Wednesday’s loaded show.

-Vic threw to a video of the D’Angelo-Waller feud.

(6) TONY D’ANGELO vs. GRAYSON WALLER (c) – NXT Championship match

Mike Rome handled formal intros until Grayson Waller cut him off, then went out and put on one of Tony D’Angelo’s old dopey fedoras to mock his old dead-on-arrival gimmick. Waller got in some rights but D’Angelo blocked him, then bumped him outside to the announce table side. It’s a PLE and the announce table hasn’t been destroyed yet, which may be significant. D’Angelo nailed Waller with a back body-drop to the floor and the match went to split-screen.
