AT RP FUNDING CENTER<br \/>\nREPORT BY HARLEY R. PAGEOT, PWTORCH CONTRIBUTOR<\/h3>\n<p><i>Announcers: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana<\/i><\/p>\n<p>[Q1]\u00a0 We opened with footage of Kenny King defeating Kushida for the television title back in September, followed by clips of the Coleman\u2019s Pulpit segment that set up Caprice Coleman challenging for the title this week.<\/p>\n<p>-Opening theme.<\/p>\n<p>-Silas Young was on commentary for our opening contest.\u00a0 He (along with Punishment Martinez and Shane Taylor) will be challenging the winner of this match in a four corner elimination match for the TV title at <i>Final Battle<\/i>.\u00a0 Speaking of Shane Taylor, he was accompanying Coleman to ringside after Coleman\u00a0 handed him an envelope of cash at the top of the stage.\u00a0 Riccaboni sent his condolences to King, whose mother recently passed away.<\/p>\n<p><b>(1) CAPRICE COLEMAN (w\/Shane Taylor) vs. KENNY KING \u2013 ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Lock-up to start and King drove Coleman into the corner.\u00a0 Coleman bailed to ringside following double knees from King in the corner and an arm drag.\u00a0 [C]<\/p>\n<p>Coleman took advantage by yanking King shoulder-first into the ring post.\u00a0 Coleman cursed at a fan in the front row and got bleeped.\u00a0 Coleman dropkicked King\u2019s head into the barricade.\u00a0 \u201cI think I killed Kenny,\u201d he said into the camera.\u00a0 Coleman continued to control the action in the ring.\u00a0 Riccaboni wondered if King had been looking past Coleman.\u00a0 Coleman tried for a hurricanrana from the top rope but King dove out of the way and Coleman landed with his legs on the top ropes, crashing to the mat.\u00a0 King with a spinning heel kick for a two-count.\u00a0 T-bone suplex into a bridge for another two-count.\u00a0 Coleman with a trio of northern light suplexes for a near fall.\u00a0 His eyes bugged out that it wasn\u2019t enough.\u00a0 Coleman to the top rope but King cut him off.\u00a0 Coleman shoved him down and hit his Sky Splitta finishing move but King kicked out at two and a half.\u00a0 Coleman tried to follow up with a piledriver but King countered out.<\/p>\n<p>[Q2]\u00a0 Taylor jumped onto the apron.\u00a0 King clubbed him off and hit a corkscrew splash over the top rope onto Taylor.\u00a0 King re-entered the ring and got rolled up by Coleman, who hooked the tights for two.\u00a0 King with a spinebuster and the Royal Flush for the win.<\/p><div id=\"pwtor-2022022084\" class=\"pwtor-content pwtor-entity-placement\"><div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>WINNER: Kenny King at 9:47 to retain the ROH World Television Championship.<\/p>\n<p>-Punishment Martinez immediately hit the ring.\u00a0 He tried for a kick on King but King ducked and hit Martinez with a kick of his own.\u00a0 Taylor into the ring.\u00a0 Martinez and Taylor dropped King with punches.\u00a0 Young left the announce table and headed to the ring as well.\u00a0 The three heels stomped away on King before turning on each other.\u00a0 They brawled into the break.\u00a0 [C]<\/p>\n<p><i>(Analysis:\u00a0 Probably the best Caprice Coleman match I\u2019ve seen in a long time.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think anybody actually bought into a title change this close to Final Battle, but Coleman walked away with some more in-ring credibility to accompany his talk show host skills.\u00a0 King continues to be established as the fighting babyface champion that everyone is gunning for.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>-The Addiction (Christopher Daniels &amp; Frankie Kazarian) made their way to ringside with microphones.\u00a0 They\u2019re facing War Machine in a grudge match at <i>Final Battle<\/i>.\u00a0 Daniels claimed that War Machine attacked them like cowards the last time they appeared.\u00a0 (Actually The Addiction jumped War Machine from behind.)\u00a0 A fan was injured in the process (as we saw two weeks ago) and Ray Rowe was faulted with a 30-day suspension.\u00a0 \u201cIn this day and age, when the slightest hint of a scandal turns a talented man into a pariah,\u201d The Addiction demanded that ROH fire War Machine.\u00a0 Kaz didn\u2019t give a damn about the injured fan.\u00a0 The rest of his speech was interrupted by Hanson rushing the ringside area and attacking both men.\u00a0 Running boot to Daniels.\u00a0 Kaz into the barricade.\u00a0 Daniels begged off in the ring but Hanson mounted him with punches.\u00a0 Kaz took a steel chair to Hanson\u2019s back.\u00a0 The Addiction taped Hanson to the middle ropes with electrical tape.\u00a0 Daniels pulled a box cutter out of his pocket and sawed off a chunk of Hanson\u2019s beard.\u00a0 He threatened to give Hanson \u201cthe Van Gogh treatment\u201d but security hit the ring.\u00a0 As The Addiction fought off two security guards, a third grabbed the box cutter and cut Hanson free.\u00a0 He unloaded on Daniels and Kaz, who fled.<\/p>\n<p>-Backstage with your ROH World Six-Man Champions The Hung Bucks (Adam Page, Nick Jackson, &amp; Matt Jackson).\u00a0 At <i>Final Battle<\/i> they defend the titles against Dragon Lee, Tit\u00e1n, and Flip Gordon.\u00a0 \u201cWhere do you think you\u2019re going?\u00a0 Welcome to Ring Of Honor,\u201d Matt Jackson said yet again.\u00a0 [C]<\/p>\n<p><i>(Analysis:\u00a0 The Addiction-War Machine segments have had a certain levity to them that helps them stand out from the other feuds in ROH at the moment.\u00a0 I mean, who threatens to cut a guy\u2019s ear off?\u00a0 Or cut his beard off with a box cutter?\u00a0 The Addiction vs. the fans of ROH has been a fun feud, too.\u00a0 Daniels flat-out lying about past circumstances and trying to throw Rowe under the same bus as Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, etc. is just classic heel work.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>-\u201cDo you know who we are?\u201d over the house mic.\u00a0 It was Jay and Mark, The Briscoes, making their way to the ring.\u00a0 Bully Ray and Tommy Dreamer, two guys that we consider legends and heroes, are nothing but cowards.\u00a0 What\u2019s it going to take to get them in the ring with The Briscoes?\u00a0 They ruined Bully\u2019s retirement.\u00a0 They laid Dreamer out in his own backyard.\u00a0 They even went to the 3D Academy and trashed the joint.\u00a0 But still, they haven\u2019t answered the challenge.\u00a0 Bully and Dreamer are worse than cowards, they\u2019re (bleeps).\u00a0 But wait\u2026<\/p>\n<p>[Q3]\u00a0 Bully and Dreamer were in the building after all!\u00a0 They made their way to ringside but a dozen security guards rushed down and stood between the two teams.\u00a0 Bully grabbed a chair until Ring Of Honor COO Joe Koff showed up and tried to talk him down.\u00a0 Bully demanded to know why Koff would let this happen.\u00a0 Jay quieted down the crowd.\u00a0 \u201cWho\u2019d have ever thought we\u2019d see the day Bully Ray and Tommy Dreamer would take orders from a short old man?\u201d\u00a0 Koff entered the ring and got in The Briscoes\u2019 faces.\u00a0 Koff said they disrespected everyone: himself, Dreamer, Ray, and every fan who\u2019s ever had their back.\u00a0 He officially announced The Briscoes vs. Dreamer &amp; Ray at <i>Final Battle<\/i>.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s going to be brutal, it\u2019s going to be extreme, and f-ing hardcore.\u201d\u00a0 Koff exited and Ray and Dreamer took advantage of the distraction to jump in the ring.\u00a0 They pounded away on The Briscoes as security tried to separate the teams.\u00a0 [C]<\/p><div id=\"pwtor-4001183875\" class=\"pwtor-content-1 pwtor-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: pwtorchcom_test_300x600 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __300x600\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><i>(Analysis:\u00a0 Well, the match is official and it\u2019s certain to be a good one but the final match-making decision itself left something to be desired.\u00a0 Why wasn\u2019t the match booked before tonight?\u00a0 What changed to finally convince Koff to make it official?\u00a0 Isn\u2019t Bully one wrong move away from being permanently injured for life?\u00a0 He was ready to retire just a few weeks ago.\u00a0 Does he still intend to after this?\u00a0 If so, they should really be making a bigger deal over this being his last match ever.\u00a0 If not, what changed to make him suddenly healthy enough to continue competing indefinitely?\u00a0 I\u2019d be willing to wait and see but Final Battle\u2019s in five days so there won\u2019t be any further promos or interviews between now and then.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>-Marty Scurll was on commentary for the main event.\u00a0 He\u2019s facing Lethal at <i>Final Battle<\/i> while Taven is taking on Will Ospreay.<\/p>\n<p><b>(2) MATT TAVEN (w\/Vinny Marseglia &amp; TK O\u2019Ryan) vs. JAY LETHAL<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Lethal and Taven brawled to ringside immediately and Lethal dumped Taven into the crowd before suplexing him back over the barricade to ringside.\u00a0 Lethal with a double axe handle from the top rope to Taven in the ring.\u00a0 Scurll and the commentators debated whether Lethal could or would go back to his villainous ways when he faces Scurll.\u00a0 Lethal with chops on Taven.\u00a0 Lethal tried for a figure four but Taven rolled him up for two.\u00a0 Marseglia grabbed Lethal\u2019s foot behind the referee\u2019s back and Taven took control.\u00a0 [C]<\/p>\n<p>Taven drove Lethal headfirst into the ring post during the break.\u00a0 Taven tried for a springboard moonsault but Lethal got the knees up.<\/p>\n<p>[Q4]\u00a0 The men traded fists mid-ring.\u00a0 Scurll was getting particularly obnoxious on commentary.\u00a0 Lethal locked in the figure four successfully but Taven made it to the ropes.\u00a0 Lethal with Hail To The King from the top rope for a two-count.\u00a0 Scurll left the commentary booth and slid his umbrella into the ring for Lethal.\u00a0 Lethal picked up the umbrella but looked conflicted.\u00a0 He eventually threw it back at Scurll, only for Taven to roll him up from behind and hook the tights for the win.<\/p>\n<p>WINNER: Matt Taven in 9:38.<\/p>\n<p><i>(Analysis:\u00a0 The Scurll-Lethal \u201cDoes Lethal still have a villain inside him?\u201d story has felt rushed.\u00a0 With more time it could have been done with more subtlety.\u00a0 Because of the time constraints it\u2019s hard to buy into any real heel tendencies from Lethal.\u00a0 He\u2019s been one of the top heroes in ROH over the past year so why would we he suddenly choose to cheat and use an umbrella tonight?)<\/i>\u00a0 [C]<\/p>\n<p>-Your ROH World Champion Cody was in the ring dressed in a ridiculously huge fur coat over a suit and tie.\u00a0 His wife Brandi was seated in a chair with the title belt over her shoulder.\u00a0 Dalton Castle made his entrance in a glittery peacock blazer and no shirt.\u00a0 Cody and Brandi rocked along to Castle\u2019s theme song in their seats.\u00a0 Ian Riccaboni handled introductions.\u00a0 Castle interrupted to say that Cody looks ridiculous.\u00a0 Riccaboni handed things over to Cody for opening remarks.\u00a0 The champion put down his cheese and meat platter, told Castle he had to try some, and then pulled all the food off the platter and shoved the empty tray toward the challenger.\u00a0 Riccaboni questioned Cody not taking things seriously.\u00a0 Cody had a servant bring over two glasses of champagne.\u00a0 Cody and Brandi poured their glasses into each other\u2019s mouths.\u00a0 Castle stood up and glowered as Cody and Brandi shared a cheese nip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Final Battle, I\u2019m going to break your heart,\u201d Castle said.\u00a0 He was excited when he heard Cody was coming ROH.\u00a0 He wanted to like him.\u00a0 He thought he was a guy who loved wrestling as much as he did.\u00a0 He thought Cody was a guy who would bring a lot of eyes to ROH.\u00a0 But when he finally arrived, Castle just saw a skinny stupid ass boy who was overdressed, overpaid, and overrated.\u00a0 Castle signed the contract.\u00a0 Cody stripped off his fur coat and blazer and signed as well.\u00a0 Castle stole Cody\u2019s champagne glass out of his hand and finished it.\u00a0 The two men got face to face with Cody raising the belt into the air to loud \u201cDalton Castle\u201d chants.<\/p>\n<p><i>(Analysis:\u00a0 Again, the word that comes to mind is \u201cfun.\u201d\u00a0 Yes, the feud is serious.\u00a0 Yes, the two men hate each other.\u00a0 Yes, there is something serious at stake.\u00a0 But within that there is still the opportunity for humor.\u00a0 Cody\u2019s fur coats and suits and cheese trays set him up as a pompous, unlikable jerk who you want to see get his comeuppance.\u00a0 Then you have Dalton Castle.\u00a0 With his outfits and speech, he is about as far from a pro wrestling \u201ceveryman\u201d as you can get.\u00a0 But he\u2019s charismatic, scrappy, and he cares about Ring of Honor.\u00a0 He loves wrestling, he wants the title, and he thinks that the top title in the company should be held by somebody who respects the fans.\u00a0 How could you not want him fighting for you?\u00a0 The only question now is: Can he pull it off?\u00a0 We\u2019ll find out Friday.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>-Next week:\u00a0 it\u2019s Best Friends &amp;
