ET<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>BY FRANK PETEANI, PWTORCH CONTRIBUTOR<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Arena \/ Super Showdown Recap<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>WWE Smackdown will emanate from the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IND. after appearing earlier this year prior to WrestleMania.\u00a0 We\u2019ll continue the fallout from Super Showdown and as we did on Raw last night, turn our attention towards Evolution taking place on Oct. 28 and Crown Jewel happening on Nov. 2.<\/p>\n<p>At Super Showdown, A.J. Styles retained his WWE Championship over Samoa Joe while Joe was struggling with an apparent knee injury during the match.\u00a0 Becky Lynch retained the Smackdown Women\u2019s Championship over Charlotte Flair by getting disqualified, thus losing the match but retaining the championship.\u00a0 New Day retained their Smackdown Tag Team Championship over The Bar.\u00a0 Daniel Bryan became the #1 contender for the WWE Championship by defeating the Miz in a surprisingly quick match.\u00a0 The IIconics had a feel-good moment defeating Asuka &amp; Naomi in their home country of Australia.<\/p>\n<p>As of this morning, <a href=\"http:\/\/wwe.com\/\">WWE.com<\/a> has announced three matches for tonight as well as a MizTV segment.\u00a0 Two matches are qualifiers for the World Cup tournament to take place at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Smackdown Women\u2019s Championship: Becky Lynch (champion) vs. Charlotte Flair; Becky Loses the Title If She is DQ\u2019d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>At the Super Showdown, Becky Lynch defended her Smackdown Women\u2019s Championship against Charlotte Flair in a rematch from Hell in a Cell.\u00a0 She got herself disqualified by hitting Charlotte with the title belt as Charlotte was applying a figure-four leglock.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the evening, it was announced that a rematch would take place tonight on Smackdown.\u00a0 WWE added the stipulation that if Becky were to get disqualified, she would lose her championship.\u00a0 Becky had some comments in response to WWE\u2019s announcements on Twitter:<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeckyLynchWWE\/status\/1048718430407483393<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeckyLynchWWE\/status\/1049047386591391744<\/p>\n<p><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 The champ-getting-DQ\u2019d finish is always an easy way out, and this was no exception.\u00a0 Historically, when trying to protect both parties and trying to keep the feud going, the DQ or count out is utilized.\u00a0\u00a0 WWE also wanted to cement Becky\u2019s heel turn by her getting herself disqualified intentionally to keep her title.\u00a0 My fear is that she will get counted out tonight, which will allow her to retain her championship as opposed to the DQ which is not an option.\u00a0 This feud is expected to carry on to Evolution, and thus the conclusion of this match should lead us in that direction.<\/em><\/p><div id=\"pwtor-4191912483\" class=\"pwtor-content pwtor-entity-placement\"><div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<h3><strong>World Cup Qualifying Matches: Jeff Hardy vs. Samoa Joe, Randy Orton vs. Big Show<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>WWE announced a World Cup tournament for the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia on Nov 2.\u00a0 Four Raw and four Smackdown wrestlers will participate.\u00a0 Thus far John Cena and Kurt Angle are in, with more participants to follow.\u00a0 Tonight, Jeff Hardy returns to Smackdown for the first time since Hell in a Cell to take on Samoa Joe in a qualifying match.\u00a0 Joe unsuccessfully challenged A.J. Styles for the WWE Championship at Super Showdown.\u00a0 Hardy recently lost his Hell in a Cell match to Randy Orton.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s probably not much to this, but Samoa Joe had a complaint about the local hotel in Indianapolis on Twitter.\u00a0 I post this because he sold a knee injury during the match with Styles this past weekend.\u00a0 If he loses tonight, he could use these issues as excuses for recent failures:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Doing the media rounds in Indianapolis today to reveal the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OmniHotels?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@OmniHotels<\/a> does not have hot water. So if your into sub arctic showers stay there. Also there is Smackdown Live tonight, but mainly no hot water.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Samoa Joe (@SamoaJoe) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SamoaJoe\/status\/1049635014705668096?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 9, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In another qualifying match, Randy Orton will take on a returning Big Show.\u00a0 We have not seen Show in the ring since September of last year prior to his having hip surgery.\u00a0 He has appeared in various spots on TV, most notably inducting his good friend Mark Henry into the WWE Hall of Fame this past April.<\/p>\n<p><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 John Cena is a free agent, so what show does he represent?\u00a0 I also don\u2019t recall Big Show being drafted to Smackdown.\u00a0 More importantly doesn\u2019t a World Cup involve parties from different countries?\u00a0 Thus far, we have two United States-born wrestlers in the tournament.\u00a0 Tonight\u2019s matches feature four more United States-born wrestlers trying to qualify.\u00a0 I figured Joe may be the exception, but he was born in Orange County, CA. if his Wikipedia page is accurate.\u00a0 Why not call this a King of the Ring tournament?\u00a0 Are they not allowed to use the word \u201cKing\u201d in Saudi Arabia, or did the prince want this called a World Cup tournament?\u00a0 With all that said, it\u2019ll be interesting to see if Samoa Joe is the odds-on favorite for this as a way of keeping him relevant following his failure to capture the WWE Championship at Super Showdown.\u00a0 If that doesn\u2019t happen and let\u2019s say Hardy beats Joe and Orton beats Show, we could revisit Hardy vs. Orton depending on how the brackets are set up.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Miz TV: WWE Champion A.J. Styles &amp; Daniel Bryan<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Miz TV returns to Smackdown tonight and should be a contentious affair.\u00a0 The Miz will have Daniel Bryan, the man to whom he lost a #1 contender\u2019s match for the WWE Championship at Super Showdown.\u00a0 In addition, he will have WWE Champion A.J. Styles, who is scheduled now to defend his championship against Bryan at Crown Jewel.<\/p>\n<p>Miz surprisingly lost to Bryan in around three minutes this past weekend when Bryan put Miz in a small package.\u00a0 Miz later on posted a photo on Instagram which you can see here via his Twitter account, where he also had some words:<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/mikethemiz\/status\/1048688056402886657<\/p>\n<p>In a hard-fought, 24-minutes match A.J. Styles retained the WWE Championship over Samoa Joe.\u00a0 A.J.\u2019s run as champion is approaching 350 days.\u00a0 He defends at Crown Jewel against Bryan who last won the title (then the WWE World Heavyweight Championship) at WrestleMania 30, but had to relinquish the title a few months later due to injury.\u00a0 Fast forward through a two-year retirement and return, Bryan is back in a WWE Championship match.<\/p><div id=\"pwtor-4087717701\" class=\"pwtor-content-1 pwtor-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: pwtorchcom_test_300x600 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __300x600\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 Tensions are certain to be high as in storyline, Miz will claim he was cheated.\u00a0 It\u2019s not out of the realm of possibility that Miz is inserted into the match at Crown Jewel to make it a triple threat, given WWE\u2019s propensity towards this method given their history.\u00a0 The factor that must be mentioned is Bryan\u2019s loss to Shelton Benjamin last week.\u00a0 Miz had words with Benjamin prior to the match last week and could make a case that Bryan is not deserving of a championship opportunity because of the loss.\u00a0 WWE would be smart to address the loss but it\u2019s not crazy to imagine them dropping it at the same time.\u00a0 The actions of Bryan will be interesting to watch going forward given his wife Brie Bella turning heel last night on Raw with her sister Nikki.\u00a0 We have had the heel husband (Jimmy Uso during the Usos heel run) and babyface wife (Naomi) on the same show and WWE swept that under the carper.\u00a0 Bryan and Brie are bigger stars, so it will be interesting to watch.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Other Items<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Aiden English shed some light on Lana\u2019s \u201cOne Night in Milwaukee.\u201d\u00a0 He showed a video of he and Lana in a hotel room having a conversation.\u00a0 When Lana started a sentence \u201cI want you,\u201d the video stopped much to the chagrin of he husband Rusev.\u00a0 If you bought that story the way Rusev did, I have a bridge in Brooklyn, N.Y. I can sell to you.<\/li>\n<li>Asuka defeated Peyton Royce last week.\u00a0 As I mentioned earlier, Royce and her IIconic partner Billie Kae defeated Asuka &amp; Naomi at the Super Showdown in front of their Australian country people.\u00a0 Asuka continues to be a shell of her NXT character.\u00a0 It\u2019s hard to imagine remembering she won the women\u2019s Royal Rumble this year and challenged Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown Women\u2019s Championship this past WrestleMania in what many tabbed a \u201cdream match.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The Fabulous Truth, Carmella &amp; R-Truth defeated Andrade \u201cCien\u201d Almas &amp; his business partner Zelina Vega.\u00a0 Carmella got Vega to submit with a Code of Silence leg lock.<\/li>\n<li>Randy Orton and Tye Dillinger fought to a no-contest.\u00a0 Orton put Dillinger\u2019s finger through an exposed turnbuckle and bent it back, causing extreme pain to Dillinger.\u00a0 Orton continues to be a vile and sadistic character.<\/li>\n<li>Next week\u2019s Smackdown will be the 1000<sup>th<\/sup> episode.\u00a0 Several acts will be returning and recently it was announced that Rey Mysterio will be one of those acts.\u00a0 According to PWInsider he has signed a two-year contract; however, he may opt out after 18 months which is right around WrestleMania of 2020.\u00a0 Whatever the case may be, this is tremendous \u201cget\u201d for Smackdown as babyfaces are desperately needed and who better than one whom has always been incredibly popular.\u00a0 Look for an eventual feud with Andrade \u201cCien\u201d Almas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Start Time &amp; Matches Advertised<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>The arena website shows a start time of 7:30 p.m. local time.\u00a0 They advertise these matches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A.J.
