EST<br \/>\nBY FRANK PETEANI (@FrankPeteani), PWTORCH SPECIALIST<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Announcers: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>In Memoriam: \u201cThe Dynamite Kid\u201d Tom Billington<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The WWE and its fan base were saddened this past week to learn of the passing of Tom Billington, known to us as the \u201cThe Dynamite Kid\u201d at the exact age of 60.\u00a0 He famously held the WWF Tag Team Championship in arguably my favorite tag team of all time the British Bulldogs with his late cousin, Davey Boy Smith.\u00a0 There were the second team to win the title at a WrestleMania as they accomplished that feat at the second incarnation of the now-famous annual event.<\/p>\n<p>The WWF was not his only stop in his wrestling career.\u00a0 He had stints in Stu Hart\u2019s Stampede Wrestling, All Japan Pro Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling.\u00a0 He was involved with the Hart family as his first wife was the sister-in-law of WWE Hall of Famer Bret \u201cHit Man\u201d Hart.<\/p>\n<p>Billington sadly spent the second half of his life in a wheelchair due to health complications mostly stemming from his doing the headbutt off the top rope.\u00a0 He was one of the original risk-takers and paved the way for his style of wrestling which was adopted by the late Chris Benoit and Daniel Bryan just to name a few.\u00a0 He had altercations with wrestlers through the years including Bruce Hart and Jacques Rougeau Jr. who had several roles in the WWF.<\/p>\n<p>I could never forget the matches the British Bulldogs had with the Hart Foundation and the Dream Team on various Saturday Night\u2019s Main Events.\u00a0 Then of course, you have their mascot Matilda, who once chased then-Islanders Haku and Tama\u2019s manager Bobby \u201cThe Brain\u201d Heenan around the ring in a moment that still brings a smile to my face this day (see how\u2019s that done, WWE?\u00a0 ORGANICALLY!).<\/p>\n<p>Our thoughts are with his family and friends.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Larry \u201cThe Axe\u201d Hennig<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The WWE family and fans were also saddened to learn of the passing of Larry \u201cThe Axe\u201d Hennig.\u00a0 Larry is the father of WWE Hall of Famer \u201cMr. Perfect\u201d Curt Hennig and the grandfather of current wrestler, Curt\u2019s son Joe Hennig, who is better known to us as Curtis Axel.\u00a0 He of course is one half of former Raw Tag Team Champions the B-Team.<\/p>\n<p>Larry was a force in the now-defunct American Wrestling Association (AWA) based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.\u00a0 He was part of a heel team with WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race and won the AWA Tag Team Championship from Dick the Bruiser and the Crusher in 1965.\u00a0 Later on, in his career he teamed with a heel \u201cDirty\u201d Dusty Rhodes and at times affiliated himself with Nick Bockwinkel and Ray \u201cThe Crippler\u201d Stevens.\u00a0 He also spent a \u201ccup of coffee\u201d in the WWWF (what WWE was known as) challenging Bruno Sammartino for the WWWF Championship.<\/p><div id=\"pwtor-2965384152\" class=\"pwtor-content pwtor-entity-placement\"><div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>I could never forget my first impression of Larry Hennig.\u00a0 For Christmas once I got a VHS tape of AWA matches which included Larry teaming with his son Curt to face the Road Warriors.\u00a0 Watching that match on VHS I learned quite a bit of what he brought to the table.\u00a0 Since his passing I could see the impression he left on the wrestling community and the people around him.<\/p>\n<p>I was too young to fully appreciate Larry in the sense of watching him on television, but I could see his legacy through Mr. Perfect and Curtis Axel.\u00a0 May his family and friends be comforted in this difficult time.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Arena and Items Advertised by WWE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>WWE Raw returns to the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, CA. after appearing a little over five months ago.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/wwe.com\/\">WWE.com<\/a> shows the arena under its former name, the Valley View Casino Center.\u00a0 The changeover took place this past Tuesday as the Pechanga Resort &amp; Casino acquired the naming rights.\u00a0 Nonetheless looking back when they were last in the building Bayley attacked Sasha Banks which lead to them having counseling with the famous Dr. Shelby.\u00a0 Things are much different now for those women as last week, in another open forum conducted by Women\u2019s Division manager Alexa Bliss, they announced their intentions to be the first Women\u2019s Tag Team Champions.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the items of emphasis advertised by <a href=\"http:\/\/wwe.com\/\">WWE.com<\/a>.\u00a0 Per usual, no matches have been announced as of this writing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rollins to address Dean Ambrose and the state of Raw<\/li>\n<li>Natalya and Ruby Riott set the tables<\/li>\n<li>Heath Slater officially begins new career path<\/li>\n<li>Did Drew McIntyre\u2019s assault on Finn B\u00e1lor change the WWE TLC landscape?<\/li>\n<li>Alexa Bliss to hold pre-WWE TLC press conference<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Dean Ambrose in Seth Rollins\u2019 Head?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Seth Rollins is set to defend the Intercontinental Championship against Dean Ambrose at TLC.\u00a0 Last week, we continued the build towards that match.<\/p>\n<p>Ambrose came out with a SWAT team all in gas masks, including himself.\u00a0 He eventually took the mask off and discussed his issues with Rollins attacking him the week prior and of course, the city of Houston.\u00a0 He said he wore the mask because you could never be too safe in the city.\u00a0 Nonetheless, he talked about Rollins and Roman Reigns \u201cselling out\u201d and caring about the fans when they were in the Shield.\u00a0 He claimed Rollins had to be in control and get his way all the time.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, after several other words, Rollins came out and the two of them went at it again.\u00a0 It ended when Ambrose knocked Rollins out with the gas mask he came down with earlier.\u00a0 He gave him a Dirty Deeds on the floor and then in the ring when the SWAT team threw Rollins in the ring.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, we\u2019ll get the final build towards this match.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the YouTube clip from last week in case you missed it:<\/p><div id=\"pwtor-1314790312\" class=\"pwtor-content-1 pwtor-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: pwtorchcom_test_300x600 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __300x600\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dean Ambrose and his personal SWAT team subdue Seth Rollins: Raw, Dec. 3, 2018\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i4u_8IXOshs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>Along with discussing the upcoming match with Ambrose, Rollins will address the state of Monday Night Raw. \u00a0The show has come under fire lately especially with how much G.M. Baron Corbin has been involved and especially his controversial decisions.<\/div>\n<p><em>F<\/em><em>rank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 I have to be honest, when I saw the SWAT team and Dean in the mask, they lost me.\u00a0 First, they have him getting shots and then pull something like this.\u00a0 Then they continue to focus on Dean having issues with the crowd rather than focus on his issues with Rollins and his time in the Shield.\u00a0 Now I will say Ambrose was a lot meaner and gave more of an explanation as to why he split from Rollins.\u00a0 If the promo was focused on that factor, it would have worked better for me because the issue is Rollins and Ambrose and not how he feels about the local crowd.\u00a0 God knows what he\u2019ll say about San Diego tonight.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if he trolls them for losing the Chargers to Los Angeles.<\/em><\/p>\n<div><i>It\u2019s interesting to see WWE have Rollins talk about the state of Raw. \u00a0They may or may not be trying to get in front of the criticism they have taken for what have been terrible episodes lately. \u00a0Why not put arguably the most popular wrestler in a position to discuss the situation?<\/i><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Heath Slater\u2019s Referee Career<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Tonight, Heath Slater begins his new \u201ccareer\u201d as a WWE referee.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, G.M. Baron Corbin (BTW I\u2019m not calling him G.M.-elect because that\u2019s just stupid) informed Slater and his partner Rhyno that he only had room for one of them on the roster.\u00a0 He decided they must wrestle each other, and the winner would keep his job.\u00a0 Slater would win the match in a minute.<\/p>\n<p>Here was Rhyno in a <a href=\"http:\/\/wwe.com\/\">WWE.com<\/a> exclusive after the match:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fired Rhyno leaves Raw for the last time: Raw Exclusive, Dec. 3, 2018\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E4rZrSuy6vI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 The fact that this is an item of emphasis for tonight is puzzling.\u00a0 There were rumors of Rhyno retiring, but they have been dispelled by several wrestling media outlets as he is scheduled for WWE house shows.\u00a0 These two have been irrelevant since their arrival on Raw.\u00a0 Something like this historically is used to heat up characters, although I don\u2019t anticipate much here.\u00a0 One thing I will say, if this was Rhyno\u2019s last stand on WWE television, he deserved better.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Drew McIntyre\u2019s Attack on Finn Balor<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Finn Balor will go one-on-one with Drew McIntyre at TLC.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Drew ended his partnership with Dolph Ziggler.\u00a0 He was issued a medal by G.M. Baron Corbin and discussed how he changed the ways of wrestlers in WWE.\u00a0 He talked about everyone wanting to play video games and retweeting fans compliments.\u00a0 Ziggler came out asking why he wasn\u2019t \u201cinvited to the party,\u201d to which Drew said he was never invited.\u00a0 He talked about making Ziggler accomplishing something for once and making him relevant again.\u00a0 This led to a match between the two.<\/p>\n<p>Finn Balor would interfere deep into the match, helping Ziggler win.\u00a0 Later on, Drew would attack Finn in the back:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Drew McIntyre ambushes Finn B\u00e1lor: Raw, Dec. 3, 2018\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Sb4dP7wtc2Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Tonight, we get the final build towards this match at TLC.\u00a0 Bear in mind, Corbin is still slated to face Braun Strowman at TLC, in a TLC match, for the right to be permanent G.M.\u00a0 Strowman will earn a Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar should he win.\u00a0 This may or may not tie into this match, considering the \u201cpartnership\u201d forming with Drew and Corbin lately.<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 Considering the partnership Drew and Ziggler had, I\u2019m not a fan of it breaking up on Raw and having a match right away.\u00a0 This waters down the significance of the partnership and doesn\u2019t make the turn feel special when it actually happens.\u00a0 It\u2019s not that I have an issue with Ziggler turning babyface but considering how long he\u2019s been here and how they were featured recently especially with the Shield, they could have stretched this out to make the breakup feel more significant. \u00a0Also, isn\u2019t outside interference reserved for heels trying to help each other?\u00a0 As far as tonight is concerned it wouldn\u2019t surprise me to see a tag match with Finn and Ziggler taking on Corbin and McIntyre based on how WWE has handled these things historically, but that\u2019s just me speculating.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Alexa Bliss TLC Press Conference<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In case you have any burning questions for Alexa Bliss, she is holding a press conference in advance of the Raw Women\u2019s Championship match between champion Ronda Rousey and Nia Jax.\u00a0 She announced this on her Twitter account:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Since taking over the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Raw?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Raw<\/a> Women\u2019s division, I\u2019ve put our female Superstars at the forefront of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WWE?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WWE<\/a>. So before @NiaJaxWWE and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RondaRousey?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RondaRousey<\/a> face off at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WWETLC?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WWETLC<\/a>, I\u2019m holding a press conference and may actually use some of YOUR questions. Use <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AskAlexa?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AskAlexa<\/a><br \/>&#8230;and make them good. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZbXEDFTxQB\">pic.twitter.com\/ZbXEDFTxQB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Lexi (Kaufman) Cabrera (@AlexaBliss_WWE) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlexaBliss_WWE\/status\/1071058869500170240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 7, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In the previous two Raw shows, she had open forums with Sasha Banks and Bayley.\u00a0 Banks and Bayley were attacked two weeks ago while last week they announced their intentions to be Women\u2019s Tag Team Champions if and when those titles are announced.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Ronda and Ember Moon defeated Nia Jax and Tamina in the main event.<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 I\u2019ll try here, but I don\u2019t have much.\u00a0 I\u2019m lucky I watch press conferences when my teams sign or trade for significant players.\u00a0 I have to watch one on WWE programming now?\u00a0 It is an attempt to interreact with fans, but I\u2019m sure there will be plant questions.\u00a0 Alexa did drop and regain the Raw Women\u2019s Title from Nia Jax and lost it to Ronda Rousey.\u00a0 You would think they\u2019d tie in that history, although who knows.\u00a0 I question if anyone cares.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Items from Last Week:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bobby Roode and Chad Gable failed to gain another Raw Tag Team Championship opportunity against champs AOP.\u00a0 G.M. Corbin told Roode initially he\u2019d have to beat Drake Maverick to earn the right, but for the 8,756th\u00a0time Corbin changed course and made it a handicap match.\u00a0 Roode and Gable lost to Maverick and AOP.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lucha House rules reign supreme again.<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>The Lucha House party defeated Scott Dawson of the Revival under \u201cLucha house rules.\u201d\u00a0 How this makes sense for a babyface team and why the Revival have been reduced to fodder is mind boggling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Sasha Banks and Bayley defeated Mickie James and Alicia Fox following their open forum.\u00a0 Fox and James were set to attack Bayley and Banks as they did the week prior but were stopped by Alexa Bliss.<\/li>\n<li>Elias was to have a match with Bobby Lashley.\u00a0 While Elias was performing for the crowd, Lio Rush and Lashley interrupted.\u00a0 Following Lashley doing another butt pose (just weird), Elias would pursue both men on stage.\u00a0 He ultimately chased Lashley away with the guitar and bashed it over Rush\u2019s head.\u00a0 If you care, they could have the match tonight or at TLC<\/li>\n<li>Finn Balor got back in the win column defeating Jinder Mahal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Raw Ratings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I try but it\u2019s hard not to be sarcastic and critical of WWE, especially in previewing Raw.\u00a0 As was covered here and by several wrestling outlets, the Raw ratings sunk to a new non-holiday low of 1.61.\u00a0 That is down 0.35 year-over-year and 0.47 from two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, the Philadelphia Eagles played the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.\u00a0 There have been good games on MNF when ratings were better.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the holiday season.\u00a0 People may be shopping, watching Christmas movies and specials, going to office parties, etc.<\/p>\n<p>My point is I\u2019m just throwing all the excuses WWE may use to explain the low ratings.\u00a0 I\u2019m not saying any are the reason, but let\u2019s be honest.\u00a0 The show has stunk to high heaven the last few weeks.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to hear it\u2019s because Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman are out, and they have a part-time Universal Champion again, or for any of the reasons I mentioned.\u00a0 From 1999-2000, arguably the biggest star ever in \u201cStone Cold\u201d Steve Austin was on the shelf and the show did just fine.\u00a0 Yes, they had the Rock and Triple H and Kurt Angle and the Undertaker and other big stars, but they were treated as such and the shows felt must see.<\/p>\n<p>The last few Raw shows have felt must-cringe.\u00a0 Looking at the items they\u2019ve advertised for the show tonight, they don\u2019t seem to be in too much of a hurry to fix things.\u00a0 It\u2019s very puzzling.\u00a0 As Eli Drake from Impact would say, that\u2019s just a fact of life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start Time &amp; Matches Advertised<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The arena\u2019s website is advertising a start time of 4:30 p.m. with doors opening at 3:00 p.m. local.<\/p>\n<p>They advertise no matches or specific wrestlers appearing.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Follow me on Twitter @FrankPeteani or e-mail me at <a href=\"mailto:fpeteani@gmail.com\">fpeteani@gmail.com<\/a>.\u00a0 Questions and discussion are welcome\u00a0 Thank you for reading!<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"pwtor-end-article-groups pwtor-entity-placement\" id=\"pwtor-2702331840\"><div id=\"pwtor-3328619668\"><div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280\" id=\"pwtorchcom_medrec_3\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_medrec_3\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_medrec_3\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\nTHANK YOU FOR VISITING<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>WWE MONDAY NIGHT RAW PRIMER DECEMBER 10, 2018 SAN DIEGO, CALIF.
