EST<br \/>\nBY FRANK PETEANI (@FrankPeteani), PWTORCH SPECIALIST<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Announcers: Tom Phillips, Corey Graves, and Byron Saxton<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Arena, Royal Rumble Results Pertinent to Smackdown, Items Advertised by WWE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As I said yesterday, the Royal Rumble is now behind us and we have officially kicked the tires and gotten on the road to WrestleMania.\u00a0 We have our Rumble winners and champions in place for now and will begin to discuss the potential matches for \u2018Mania come this April.\u00a0 As Raw did last night, Smackdown will take place in the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, AZ.\u00a0 Smackdown followed Raw in this arena in February of last year.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the Royal Rumble results pertinent to Smackdown:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Asuka defeated Becky Lynch to retain the Smackdown Women\u2019s Championship<\/li>\n<li>The Miz &amp; Shane McMahon defeated The Bar (Sheamus &amp; Cesaro) to become Smackdown Tag Team Champions<\/li>\n<li>Becky Lynch won the women\u2019s Royal Rumble.<\/li>\n<li>Daniel Bryan defeated A.J. Styles to retain the WWE Championship.\u00a0 Erick Rowan returned to WWE television to help Bryan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here\u2019s what is advertised by <a href=\"http:\/\/wwe.com\/\">WWE.com<\/a>.\u00a0 No matches are announced as of this writing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What will be the fallout of Lynch\u2019s WrestleMania challenge to Rousey<\/li>\n<li>Shane McMahon &amp; The Miz to throw The Best Tag Team Celebration in The World<\/li>\n<li>Daniel Bryan vows to change the climate of WWE forever<\/li>\n<li>Who will step up to Asuka<\/li>\n<li>Can Rusev &amp; Lana bounce back from a crushing Rumble<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Man\u201d Becky Lynch to Challenge \u201cThe Rowdy One\u201d at WrestleMania<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Asuka\u2019s Next Challenger<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These items are related for sure, and thus I\u2019ll tie them together for the purpose of this report.<\/p><div id=\"pwtor-3700805938\" class=\"pwtor-content pwtor-entity-placement\"><div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x250\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Last night on Raw, we learned that \u201cThe Man\u201d Becky Lynch, former two-time Smackdown Women\u2019s Champion, will challenge \u201cRowdy\u201d Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women\u2019s Championship.<\/p>\n<p>As we recall, these two were to face at Survivor Series in a champion vs. champion match when Becky held the Smackdown gold.\u00a0 Becky was injured by \u201cThe Facebreaker\u201d Nia Jax prior to the event and was replace by Charlotte Flair in the match.\u00a0 Ronda went on to win via DQ when Charlotte attacked her with a kendo stick.<\/p>\n<p>Becky came up short at the Royal Rumble in her attempt to regain the Smackdown gold against Asuka, who made her tap out.\u00a0 She then entered the Royal Rumble by replacing an injured Lana and went on to win by eliminating Charlotte.\u00a0 She did so after her knee was \u201cinjured\u201d by Nia Jax on the outside of the ring.\u00a0 Charlotte could contend that Becky wasn\u2019t originally in the Royal Rumble and make her case to challenge Ronda or at least say Becky\u2019s win is tainted.<\/p>\n<p>Now you know I can\u2019t do a Smackdown primer without a Becky tweet.\u00a0 It\u2019s already starting between these two and we still have two and a half months to go:<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeckyLynchWWE\/status\/1090096251079741440?s=20<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeckyLynchWWE\/status\/1090290526241345539?s=20<\/p>\n<p><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 Let\u2019s keep this simple.\u00a0 There is NO NEED TO INCLUDE CHARLOTTE FLAIR IN THIS.\u00a0 The fans clearly want a one-on-one offering, and the match is sufficient to be on the card as such and even main event the show.\u00a0 Charlotte has a very nice WrestleMania rematch waiting with Asuka that would give us two top-flight women\u2019s title matches on the \u201cgrandest stage of \u2018em all.\u201d\u00a0 Think about it, against whom else would you like to see Asuka defend the title?\u00a0 You could do Lacey Evans I suppose if she ends up on Smackdown.\u00a0 Nikki Cross is a different match.\u00a0 I would suggest Sonya Deville, but they haven\u2019t done much to build her up.\u00a0 Everyone else on the roster feels like a TV match at best.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There is the issue of Ronda possibly leaving WWE after WrestleMania so they may want to squeeze Charlotte into the match knowing the opportunity may not present itself in the future.\u00a0 There\u2019s also the remote possibility of wanting to unify the women\u2019s titles considering there\u2019s only going to be one women\u2019s tag team championship.\u00a0 If Becky or Charlotte beat Asuka before WrestleMania, and you set up the triple threat, you can have a winner-take-all match.\u00a0 <\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p><div id=\"pwtor-2508055888\" class=\"pwtor-content-1 pwtor-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: pwtorchcom_test_300x600 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __300x600\" id=\"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\", slotId: \"pwtorchcom_test_300x600\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><strong>Shane McMahon &amp; The Miz\u2019s Best Celebration in the World<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First there was a birthday celebration, now a tag team championship celebration.\u00a0 Are they getting a cake for this?\u00a0 That\u2019s going to rev up those night cravings for us viewers you know.<\/p>\n<p>At any rate, \u201cThe Besties\u201d (that is their tag team name, right?) Shane McMahon &amp; The Miz walked away with the Smackdown Tag Team Championship at the Royal Rumble after defeating The Bar (Sheamus &amp; Cesaro).\u00a0 They did so by Shane hitting a shooting star press on Cesaro and scoring the three-count.<\/p>\n<p>(Word is that Brock Lesnar was stewing in the back after botching this move at WrestleMania 19 and seeing 49-year old Shane doing it successfully.\u00a0 Yeah probably not true, but I couldn\u2019t help it.)<\/p>\n<p>After the match, both Shane and Miz celebrated with Miz\u2019s father at ringside.\u00a0 Dana Warrior, the wife of the late WWE Hall of Famer Ultimate Warrior, was also present and got a hug from the Miz.\u00a0 Tonight, the celebration continues as the new champs throw the \u201cbest celebration in the world.\u201d\u00a0 Here\u2019s a tweet from Shane following the big win:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A dream come true for me last night at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RoyalRumble?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#RoyalRumble<\/a>. Just finished my third ice bath from last night. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BangedUp?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BangedUp<\/a>! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gRCdhy3Ybo\">pic.twitter.com\/gRCdhy3Ybo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Shane McMahon (@shanemcmahon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/shanemcmahon\/status\/1089972331181617152?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 28, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 Shane and the Miz look like a genuinely cohesive tag team, and Shane looks thrilled to be doing this.\u00a0 This will undoubtedly lead to something at WrestleMania but what that is remains to be seen.\u00a0 I\u2019m still dead against all of this because with a roster as deep as WWE\u2019s is, you won\u2019t get me to sign off on Shane McMahon at 49 years old in 2019 occupying a championship.\u00a0 The Usos and New Day I agree need a break from the tag team title scene.\u00a0 You have Sanity, the Good Brothers, and the Colons all barely getting TV time.\u00a0 Are they the best teams in the world?\u00a0 No, but attempts have not been made to at least try to build them up through the years.\u00a0 Fans seem to be into this and thus, we\u2019ll just enjoy the ride and see where it goes.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure it\u2019s Miz turning on Shane at some point, but that does seem logical at the moment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Daniel Bryan Wants to Change the Climate of WWE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an unexpected turn of events, Erick Rowan returned to WWE programming and assisted Daniel Bryan in retaining the WWE Championship over A.J. Styles at the Royal Rumble.\u00a0 It\u2019s not the first time Bryan and Rowan were aligned in WWE, as Bryan briefly spent time in the Wyatt Family (Rowan, Bray Wyatt, and Luke Harper) from late 2013-early 2014<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s Daniel Bryan in a <a href=\"http:\/\/wwe.com\/\">WWE.com<\/a> exclusive with Cathy Kelley after the match with Styles:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Daniel Bryan calls WWE fans \u201cfickle\u201d following WWE Title Match response: WWE Exclusive, Jan 27, 2019\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7SO7rVEZx3o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Last night on Raw, Bryan and Rowan were in attendance and did a brief interview in the back with Charly Caruso as Seth Rollins was set to choose his WrestleMania opponent.\u00a0 With Rollins choosing Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, which we learned after the show, that leaves Bryan open for business.\u00a0 Tonight, we\u2019ll begin to learn his path as WWE will determine a #1 contender for the man who wants to change the climate of WWE.\u00a0 Perhaps he\u2019ll want to ban the sale of hot dogs and soda at the concession stands.<\/p>\n<p><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 It\u2019s not the first time in WWE history we\u2019ve seen a heel champion get a \u201cheater.\u201d\u00a0 Rowan is certainly big enough to play the role and his alignment with Bryan could work (it\u2019s the beard thing).\u00a0 You just wonder if Bryan\u2019s heel role is working.\u00a0 The matches with Styles at the past two PPVs were good but nothing that wowed us in the way a lot of us expected.\u00a0 I would think the character is getting over, but for them to give Bryan a heater suggests it may not.\u00a0 You wonder about Luke Harper upon his return, and whether or not he will join Rowan by Bryan\u2019s side.\u00a0 Word is he is not medically cleared to return but will be any day now.\u00a0 Harper and Rowan recently held the Smackdown Tag Team Championships as the Bludgeon Brothers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Can Lana &amp; Rusev Bounce Back?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sunday night was not a good night for Mr. and Mrs. Miroslav Barnyashev, better known to us as Rusev and Lana.<\/p>\n<p>During the Royal Rumble pre-show, Rusev dropped the U.S. Championship back to Shinsuke Nakamura after gaining it from him just one month ago on a pre-taped episode of Smackdown aired on Christmas Day.\u00a0 That ended his third reign with the championship.\u00a0 During the match, Rusev inadvertently knocked Lana off the ring apron while she trying to point out Nakamura tearing off the turnbuckle cover to the referee.\u00a0 She suffered an apparent \u201cankle injury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later on, Lana was making her way out for the women\u2019s Royal Rumble but struggled to get to the ring.\u00a0 She was deemed unable to compete and was replaced by eventual winner Becky Lynch.<\/p>\n<p>Rusev and Lana did send out these tweets although I don\u2019t think there\u2019s much to read into here:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Your welcome <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WWE?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WWE<\/a> Universe! We are going to wrestle mania<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Miro (@ToBeMiro) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ToBeMiro\/status\/1089714412322091008?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 28, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Frank\u2019s Analysis:\u00a0 Lana could make issue that Becky took her spot in the Rumble, although I don\u2019t see where that would go.\u00a0 She could \u201crecover\u201d and vie for the Smackdown women\u2019s title, but do we see her beating Asuka?\u00a0 As far as Rusev goes when it comes to the U.S. title it\u2019s so diminished that I don\u2019t read much into him dropping the title even if it is back to Nakamura after one month.\u00a0 They\u2019ll probably have rematch as early as tonight given how WWE has handled these things historically.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><strong>Possible Items to Anticipate Tonight:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I decided to rebrand this section of the report a bit and sort of speculate on things, in a freestyle way, that may or may not get covered during tonight\u2019s show.\u00a0 More often than not by the time I submit these reports, little to no matches are announced.\u00a0 WWE likes to wait until later in the day to be more specific about their shows.\u00a0 As a writer of the primers I feel it is my job to at least in some way predict what we may or may not see, aside from what WWE advertises.\u00a0 Here are some items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Last night Tamina &amp; Nia Jax and Sarah Logan &amp; Liv Morgan qualified for the elimination chamber match to determine the WWE Women\u2019s Tag Team Championship.\u00a0 Look for more qualifying matches tonight.<\/li>\n<li>Mustafa Ali eliminated Samoa Joe but was also eliminated himself by Nia Jax.\u00a0 Last week, Joe defeated Ali.\u00a0 Look for follow-up.\u00a0 Joe could point out Ali\u2019s being eliminated by a woman as a way to further the feud.<\/li>\n<li>Last week Mandy Rose defeated Naomi in a rather weak seven-minute match.\u00a0 She did so by shoving Naomi into the ringpost and scoring the pin.\u00a0 Jimmy Uso came out to console his wife was visibly frustrated.\u00a0 I apologize but something tells me this situation isn\u2019t over based on this tweet:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Ive been having nightmares about @WWE_MandyRose, can we please have an open discussion on how to end her (legally)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Trinity (@TheTrinity_Fatu) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheTrinity_Fatu\/status\/1089993647469166592?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 28, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Mandy and Sonya Deville, I would imagine, are earmarked for a qualifying match but you could say the same for Naomi.\u00a0 Carmella is a likely partner.\u00a0 Those two teams facing each other could be a way to keep the feud going.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rey Mysterio and Andrade wrestled to a no-contest in their two-out-of-three falls match last week.\u00a0 I would technically call it Rey winning via DQ since Samoa Joe attacked Rey during the \u201cthird fall.\u201d\u00a0 Nonetheless Joe continued to attack Andrade as well but was treated to an RKO out of nowhere by Randy Orton.\u00a0 During the Royal Rumble, Orton eliminated Rey after they collectively eliminated Nia Jax.\u00a0 Andrade eliminated Orton.\u00a0 Ali &amp; Rey could team up again to take on Andrade and Joe.\u00a0 I don\u2019t rule out a six-man putting Jeff Hardy with Ali &amp; Rey and Orton with Andrade &amp; Joe.\u00a0 Any combination of matches is possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Start Time &amp; Matches Advertised on the Arena Website <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Talking Stick Resort Arena is advertising a start time of 5:45 p.m. local time.\u00a0 They advertise a six-man tag match featuring A.J.
