TNA "Maximum Impact" house show report
January 17, 2009
Dublin, Ireland
Report by Steve Cooney, PWTorch reader

This was the second sold-out night in Dublin for TNA. The crowd was a lot younger on the second night due in a large part to the UFC PPV that was happening ten minutes down the road. The young crowd generally cheered the faces and booed the heels with a few exceptions.

(1) Eric Young beat Doug Williams, Sheik Abdul Bashir, and Consequences Creed in a fatal four-way X-Division match. Big heel heat again for Doug Williams here. The crowd was firmly behind Eric Young. Everyone got their spots in, but in the end Eric Young got the pin for the victory.

(2) ODB & Taylor Wilde beat the Beautiful People (Angelina Love & Velvet Sky). This was the only match repeated from the previous night. What you'd expect from these four. ODB scored the victory after spitting alcohol in Angelina Love's face and rolling her up.

(3) X Division champion Alex Shelley beat "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal. Both guys were extremely over here with duelling "Let's go Lethal, let's go Shelley" chants throughout. This was a great, fast paced match. So many nearfalls, which the crowd just loved. Shelley eventually picked up the win with a frog splash from the top rope. Shelley and Lethal shook hands after the match and got a great ovation.

(4) A.J. Styles & Samoa Joe beat Matt Morgan & Abyss. Didn't expect to see A.J. and Joe so early, and in the same match together, however they were excellent here. Huge reactions for both, as you would expect. Once again Abyss and Morgan were playing the heels here, especially Morgan. A.J. and Morgan did most of the work in this match, with the focus being on the size difference between the two. When Joe was involved, he was much better here than last night. He was flying around the ring and pulled off a suicide dive to the outside on Abyss at one point. The match eventually ended when A.J. hit a modified version of the Spiral Tap from the top rope on Morgan.

Post-match: Morgan started arguing with Abyss about the loss and began pushing him around. Abyss stood up to Morgan and this led to Morgan leaving the ring and heading to the back in anger. Abyss remained to the ring and got a good level of cheers from the fans.

[Intermission]

TNA Tag Team Title match
(5) TNA tag team champions Beer Money, Inc. (James Storm & Robert Roode) beat Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon). Team 3D were so over and really played the loveable face characters. Beer Money did the scared heels act that they do so well. Tons of "We want tables" chants here. Another strong outing from both teams with Beer Money picking up the win after hitting Brother Ray with the title belt when the ref was distracted.

Post-match: Beer Money brought a table into the ring. They tried to put Team 3D through the table but this was reversed and ended with James Storm being 3D'd through the table to a massive pop. While the crowd loudly chanted "ECW, ECW, ECW", Brother Ray got on the mic and said that although he was grateful for that chant he wanted the crowd to chant three other letters instead. A massive "TNA, TNA, TNA" chant filled the arena.

(6) Jeff Jarrett beat Kurt Angle in the main event with Mick Foley as special enforcer at ringside. Despite repeated efforts to get Kurt over as a heel throughout the night, the crowd just loved him. Very strong reaction for Jarrett here as well. This was a great match with both keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats with multiple near falls throughout. This match went back and forth for a good while until the inevitable ref bump. Kurt left the ring to grab Jarrett's guitar which led to Foley coming in a stopping him. Mr. Socko made an appearance and was promptly shoved down Angle's throat. Jarrett then smashed the guitar over Kurt's head leading to the pinfall victory.

Post-match: Foley and Jarrett stayed in the ring to address the crowd. In a strange moment Matt Morgan ran out an helped Kurt to the back. Just seemed very random for Morgan to do this. Foley and Jarrett thanked the crowd for following TNA and said that they would be back to Dublin in the very near future.

It was a great night and I would say it surpassed the first night, although I preferred the first main event of Kurt vs A.J. over Kurt vs Jarrett. I'll definitely be at the show when TNA comes back to Dublin.
