I volunteer with my church youth group and we took some of the boys in our class to the show tonight. There were six of us in total. All in all, it was a pretty good show with a few slow spots.
(1) Santino beat Chavo Guerrero. Unfortunately, we arrived late and missed all but the end of this match. Later, I asked some of the guys sitting around us and they said that Chavo got in zero offense and looked pretty weak.
(2) Paul Burchill beat FCW developmental talent Johnny Curtis. Surprisingly, the crowd was hot for Burchill and he got a lot of cheers. Johnny looked pretty good, but he didn't get in a lot of offense. Burchill looked great and hit his finisher for the win.
(3) Legacy (Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes) beat Evan Bourne & Mark Henry. The crowd was really into Bourne and Henry. This was a great match with a lot of heel tactics from Legacy. Match went on for a long time, mostly with Legacy beating down Bourne. Eventually, Evan hit Air Bourne but he couldn't capitalize on it. Rhodes then hit Cross Roads for the pin.
(4) U.S. champion The Miz beat Jack Swagger and Chris Masters in a triple threat to retain the U.S. Title. Miz cut a good promo before the match, saying he would win the Rumble, but then he cut himself off after "I'M THE MIZ." He sold that he was really mad at the crowd, then said they didn't deserve to say his line with him. Then, he said his catchphrase and the other two came out. Crowd apathy really killed this match. The guys worked hard, but without a real strong babyface to cheer for, the crowd was more or less lost. Masters did a good job trying to win the crowd and started getting a few cheers near the end, but it was too little too late. Miz hit the Skullcrushing Finale on Swagger for the win.
(5) The Bella Twins beat Maryse & Alicia Fox. t was nice to see the Bellas in an actual match, but other than that, this was standard divas tag match fare. I have no idea why, but at one point, Maryse started acting like she was going to take her pants off on the ring apron.
The show went to Intermission and Justin Roberts and Hornswoggle pushed some merchandise on the audience. I picked up a Kofi Kingston shirt for $25. On a side note, I think it's ridiculous those big DX glowsticks cost $10.
(6) Big Show beat MVP. Show looked like his knees where really hurting him in this match. Right after it started, he stepped out of the ring for a minute, but not in a cowardly heelish way. He went over to the apron and stretched out his knee for a few seconds, then he climbed back into the ring, but had a noticeable limp. Show beat down MVP pretty soundly, then MVP countered a chokeslam attempt and turned it into a DDT. He followed with the Ballin' Elbow and went for the Playmaker, but Show got out and hit the chokeslam for the win. The match seemed like it ended early, but I understand since Show really looked like he was in a lot of pain.
(7) Randy Orton beat Kofi Kingston. Something was just really off in this match and I think it was the crowd. For some reason, they just weren't behind Kofi and I really don't know why. Orton was agonizingly slow walking to the ring. I think it took him upwards of a minute-and-a-half. Orton tried to run away a lot early on, but then proceeded to beat the heck out of Kofi. I mean about 20 straight minutes of Orton just pounding on Kofi and putting him in headlock after head lock. Kofi then made a great comeback with dropkicks, a Boom Drop, and a Trouble in Paradise. Orton made a comeback, though, and after throwing Kofi out of the ring, he pulled him back, in put Kofi's feet on the middle rope, and hit a sick DDT. Kofi then somehow made another comeback with Trouble in Paradise, but Orton came back with the RKO for the win.
WWE champion Sheamus came out to some great heat and gave an open challenge to anyone in the locker room. Triple H came out and the crowd exploded.
(8) Triple H beat WWE champion Sheamus via DQ. Hunter and Sheamus had a long match with Sheamus looking strong and dominating for the majority. Sheamus threw the ref out of the ring and got a chair, but when he came back, Triple H dodged the chair and hit the Pedigree. When he went for the pin, the original ref was down, but a new ref ran out from the back and made the count. Triple H was awarded the belt and the crowd was going crazy, but then the original ref woke up and ran over to Roberts, who announced that Triple H was the winner by disqualification, but as a result, Sheamus retains the title. The audience was pissed and a lot of people started throwing their DX glowsticks into the ring. Triple H then proceeded to grab the chair and hit Sheamus for the last word. Cool side note. One of my friends cheered Sheamus for the entire match. At one point, he looked over and gave us a thumbs up.
On the way back, I polled the guys on what their favorite matches were and it was a three-way tie between the Legacy vs. Bourne & Henry tag match, Kofi vs. Orton, and Sheamus vs. Triple H.
