Report by Dave Wallace, Torch reader
The night started with Jeremy Borash as ring announcer for the evening. JB said the noisiest members of the audience would receive passes to see the wrestlers backstage at the interval.
(1) X Division champion Amazing Red defeated Chris Sabin. Both wrestlers got good pops from the crowd. During the match, they both had a lot of offense, including Amazing Red hitting a twisted corkscrew from the ring to Sabin on the outside. Amazing Red went on to pick up the victory via pinfall. Good opening match to kick off the night.
(2) Hernandez defeated Rhino. Seemed a bit slow. Rhino used heel moves such as using the ref as a shield and raking the eyes of Hernandez while the ref had his back turned. Hernandez picked up the three count after a top rope frogsplash.
(3) Global champion Eric Young defeated Suicide. Young got a lot of heat from the crowd. Good match that ended with a dangerous-looking piledriver from Young to win the match. Hearing the younger fans chanting "Suicide!" was a bit surreal.
[Intermission. During the 15-minute intermission, those who were given backstage passes went backstage to see their favorite stars.]
(4) Hamada beat Sarita (w/Taylor Wilde). The crowd was very flat after the interval and didn't seem to get into the match. Taylor Wilde was at ringside with Sarita and did her best to get the fans interested. Lots of hip tosses and arm drags, which seemed to make up most of the match and it never really had any momentum. Hamada won after hitting the Cradle Shock to pick up the win.
(5) Kurt Angle defeated Desmond Wolfe and Daniels in a triple threat match. Angle easily had the best reaction of the night getting a massive reception from the crowd. Match started up with the heels double-teaming Angle before Daniels eventually clotheslined Wolfe. All of the wrestlers hit their finishing moves, which ended when Angle hit the Angle Slam on Wolfe. No doubt the best match of the night.
(6) Team 3D (Brother Ray & Brother Devon) defeated the British Invasion (Doug Williams & Brutus Magnus) and Beer Money (James Storm & Robert Roode) in a triple threat tag team tables match. The British Invasion came out first and cut a good heel promo to incite the crowd. They were interrupted by Beer Money and Team 3D. It was pretty much a two-on-one tag team match since the faces worked with one another against the heels. The match ended when Team 3D put Brutus through a table. Team 3D celebrated by laying a Scotland flag over Brutus in the center of the ring. Afterwards, Beer Money and Team 3D got a kid in the ring and they all autographed a piece of the table for him as a souvenir.
(7) TNA World Hvt. champion A.J. Styles defeated Samoa Joe. I don't think many people in the crowd realized Styles had a heel turn at the last PPV and, as a result, Styles was largely cheered by the fans. Earl Hebner (who even had his own entrance at the start of the evening) was accidently taken out by Joe, and when Styles tapped after being put in a rear naked choke by Joe, there was no referee to call for the bell. Styles then hit Joe with a low blow followed by the Styles Clash and the referee slowly came to and made the three count. Post-match, Styles made reference to Ric Flair being the dirtiest player in the game and his allegiance with him. The night ended with Joe chasing Styles back up the ramp!
Top babyface reactions – Angle, Suicide, Beer Money.
Top heel heat – Eric Young, British Invasion, Desmond Wolfe.
Overall, it was a good night with some nice matches to entertain the crowd. Hopefully they'll come back again. The next wrestling Glasgow will see is the WWE Raw and Smackdown tour coming in April.
