Springfield, Ill.
Report by Ashley Smith, PWTorch readers
Having purchased tickets in the first three rows, we were able to enter the arena early for a "meet and greet," which included almost every wrestler there on the night. Most of the wrestlers were very friendly and accommodating, taking pictures and signing autographs; they even had to come out and force Jesse Neal and Mr. Anderson to the back. Don West was at the merchandise stand talking up the brown bag special. Before the show, Jeff Hardy was also at the merch stand signing autographs, but only on a TNA photo or program (same with the Beautiful People at intermission and Jeff Jarrett after the show).
Jeremy Borash came out and prepped the crowd, saying they "do things differently" here in TNA, and the loudest fans are going backstage. Craig Jenkins came running out to the ring screaming that A.J. Styles didn't want any fans from Springfield backstage. The crowd booed and JB asked if anyone cared what A.J. thinks. He then introduced Earl Hebner, who pulled off his referee shirt to reveal his "Damn Right I Did" t-shirt.
(1) X Division champion Kazarian beat Brian Kendrick to retain the X Division Title. The crowd was pretty into the match, which featured a lot of Kazarian's offense leading to his kneeling back-to-belly piledriver to retain the X Division title.
JB introduced referee Slick Johnson from the Great State of Illinois.
(2) Abyss beat Desmond Wolfe. Desmond came out first to a mixed crowd reaction. He did his pompous Brit routine strutting around the ring taking off his shirt and sunglasses. When Abyss got in the ring, a "U-S-A" chant broke out. The match was back and forth with Desmond using classic grappling followed by a power move from Abyss. There were several nearfalls including Wolfe kicking out of an Abyss chokeslam. After a pin attempt by Wolfe, Abyss "Hulked Up" and hit the Black Hole Slam for the win. When Slick Johnson tried to leave the ring after the match, Abyss stopped him and they did the ear to the crowd and Hulk Hogan poses.
(3) Knockouts tag champions The Beautiful People (Velvet Sky & Lacey Von Erich & Knockouts champion Madison Rayne) beat Sarita & Taylor Wilde to retain the Knockouts tag titles. Both teams did their choreographed ring entrances receiving loud cheers from the crowd. Sarita started the match with a clumsy exchange with Lacey. Velvet and Lacey then executed some double-team moves on Sarita while Earl Hebner yelled at Taylor to "Stay in the corner, dammit." Sarita managed to tag in Taylor, but while Madison and Velvet distracted Earl, Lacey sprayed hairspray in Taylor's eyes for a BP win.
Before Mr. Anderson vs. Jeff Jarrett, Anderson came to the ring to cheers and gestured for his mic. When it didn't come, he screamed at JB to get in the ring. He did his gesture again and JB handed him a mic over his head. Anderson then said, "Oh yea, you like me here, oh yippee." He then said his uncle Larry is here and told the spotlight guy to search the crowd. They took the light around the crowd and when he said he couldn't find him, he said, "Wherever you are, sit down and shut up." He said if he talks to his family like that, imagine how he feels about the audience.
Jeff Jarrett then came out and talked about Mr. Anderson's t-shirt being one of their biggest sellers, but he's never read it. He read the front: "pro wrestling is real," which drew a cheer. He flipped it over and read the back: "People are fake." He said there is fine print: "and Mr. Anderson is a Jack---." He then ripped the shirt in half and threw half to the crowd and the other at Mr. Anderson to start the match.
(4) Mr. Anderson beat Jeff Jarrett. These two put on a great match. The ref was knocked down and Anderson brought a chair in the ring and set it up in the corner. Anderson tried to throw Jarrett into the chair, but Jarrett reversed, Anderson hit the chair, and Jarrett went for the pin, but the ref was still down. After Jarrett checked on the ref, Anderson hit him from behind with a low blow. Anderson then hit the Mic Check for the win.
Intermission. After intermission, Beer Money came out asking if there was anyone in Springfield who likes to party and drink beer. They then pulled out two backstage passes and said there's a lot of crazy people here tonight, but, unfortunately, no one is good enough to breathe the same air as Beer Money. He added there are only "fat chicks" and "retards."
(5) Ink, Inc. (Shannon Moore & Jesse Neal) beat Beer Money, Inc. (Robert Roode & James Storm). Jesse Neal was in most of the match, which included some action out of the ring. Shannon Moore got a big cheer when he tagged in. There was a funny moment in the corner where James Storm was hung upside down and Moore/Neal pulled Robert Roode crotch first into Storm's face and then flipped Storm down on top of Roode. They then rolled out of the ring yelling at each other. "You put that (pointing down) in my face!" they shouted at each other. Storm took a swig of beer to rinse his mouth and tried to spit it in Moore's face, missed, and hit Roode instead. Moore then hit his finishing move for the win.
(6) TNA World Hvt. champion Rob Van Dam beat A.J. Styles and Jeff Hardy in a three-way match to retain the TNA World Title. After the three participants made their entrance, A.J. said he wasn't going to be in the match and Hardy and RVD could wrestle each other. He headed to the back and Hardy and RVD started the match. After a couple of minutes, A.J. came back ringside trying to sneak in the ring when the other two weren't looking. A.J. broke up an RVD pin attempt and threw him out of the ring and started working on Hardy. RVD stayed on the floor watching the match and when A.J. would look at him, he would pretend to be hurt and then laugh when A.J. looked away. A.J. went for a pin and RVD broke it up. RVD and Hardy teamed up on A.J., leading to an uneasy moment about who would go for a pin. Hardy hit the Swanton Bomb, then rolled out of the ring allowing RVD to hit the Five-Star Frogsplash and get the pin on A.J.
JB then came in the ring and annouced that for $20, you could come in the ring and get your picture taken with RVD and the other wrestlers would come out for a "TNA Autograph Party." Overall, a great show, like the other TNA house shows I've been to.
