TNA house show results
May 22, 2010
Houston, Tex.
Report by Christopher Dugger, PWTorch reader

Kurt Angle was signing TNA merchandise walking into the building. Don West was at the merchandise area hawking all things TNA. The crowd was about 90 percent full - the upper deck where I sat was about 85 percent full and the bottom floor looked full.

Jeremy Borash came out and got the crowd revved up with promises of backstage access. The crowd started going nuts and a special surprise was promised after the show. Earl Hebner was introduced as the first body of the night and got tremendous heat.

(1) X Division champion Doug Williams beat Kazarian in 9:00. Williams got heat and Kazarian got a decent pop. The ring bell, by the way, sounded like they were hitting the aluminum legs of the table at ringside. It didn't sound professional. Williams won with the Chaos Theory.

(2) Knockouts champion Madison Rayne beat Hamada in 7:00. Madison got a huge pop with the Beautiful People ring entrance. I noticed her wearing long pants and not the lingerie-type outfits the BP wear on TV. There were a few awkward exchanges, as I could see Hamada calling a couple of spots at the end before Rayne won.

Side note: JB was recording bits of the show at ringside with his laptop and camera.

(3) Motor City Machineguns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) beat Beer Money (Robert Roode & James Storm) in 10:00. Beer Money got a huge pop. The crowd chanted along with both the heels and the faces throughout. Incredible match. Short, but with a lot of nice moves. It was nice to see this type of match considering how short the matches are on TV.

Jeff Jarrett came out with his left arm in a sling and talked about founding the company. My only complaint is we've heard the story so many times that it's getting a tad old. He thanked everybody in the crowd and they thanked him. He gave a big plug for Kurt Angle during his speech.

(4) Kurt Angle beat Mr. Anderson via submission in 3:00. As James Caldwell mentioned in his report, Anderson's mic work was longer than the match. They did the pre-match spot where Anderson brought JB into the ring when his overhead mic did not come down. I guess the best way to sell an injury is to have a short house show match.

Intermission was 20 minutes. I like that Earl Hebner has the cajones to sell his own t-shirt. The Machineguns were doing autographs in the lobby during intermission. Don West was sweating like crazy at the merchandise table. I almost feel sorry for him. I also met James; loved his PWTORCH.com t-shirt and think it would sell, along with a cap.

(5) Samoa Joe beat Desmond Wolfe in 10:00. Joe was way over. Good back and forth action. Joe won with the Muscle Buster for the win.

(6) TNA World Hvt. champion Rob Van Dam beat A.J. Styles to retain the TNA World Title in 9:00. Styles had a nice reaction; some were cheering and some were booing where I was sitting. RVD got a huge pop coming out. RVD finished off Styles with a Five Star Frogsplash. I was surprised by how short the match was.

After the match, JB came into the ring announced the special surprise that the locker room would come to us. The biggie was the standard $20 picture with RVD. The show lasted two hours including intermission. Jeff Jarrett personally met everyone after the show and signed TNA merchandise, as did all others. It was cool seeing heels and faces signing the autographs.

I told Jeff I thought this was the best wrestling show I had seen in 25 years. They have so much energy for house shows. I still felt taken aback by the short matches. I would have liked to have seen a 15 or 20-minute match. Just one would have been good. I would definitely recommend a TNA house show if you have the chance to attend. I liked the interactions after the matches and that goes a long way for me. I can't imagine WWE doing that other than WWE Fan Axxess. I hope to see them again in Houston.
