TNA house show results
June 17, 2010
Dayton, Ohio
Report by Bryan Wood, PWTorch reader

TNA came to the Nutter Center in Dayton where Bret Hart's return to WWE was held in January. The arena is large (14,000) and cavernous, which looked kind of bad with about 1,500 people in attendance. They would have been better off booking Hara Arena, which is smaller. ROH runs there and ECW held a few Heatwave PPVs there.

There were a lot of families and kids here, and a TON of young girls for Jeff Hardy. Quite a few didn't seem to be familiar with TNA. This made for an interesting evening, as most of the heels got cheers during their entrances and really had to work for boos.

(1) Jay Lethal beat Homicide at 5:05 with a small package. This match was really short, but there was good action. Homicide came out to cheers and cut a heel promo, saying Dayton isn't nearly as tough as Brooklyn. This brought out the boo birds despite the fact that it's true. Lethal came out in his Ric Flair persona and got quite a few Wooos from the crowd. The action was more traditional wrestling than "X Division style," but it was a good match. Afterwards, Lethal got the ref do the Flair strut to the crowd's amusement.

(2) Knockouts tag champions The Beautiful People (Velvet Sky & Knockouts champion Madison Rayne) beat Taylor Wilde & Sarita at 7:40 to retain the Knockouts Title and Knockouts Tag Titles. Both tag teams came out to much cheering. BP's played up the bimbo part quite a bit, mocking Taylor and Sarita's entrance. Hebner played the pervy ref gimmick that TNA has been using at house shows. He kissed Madison and danced around, which drew ones of the biggest pops of the night. This was a very solid match with both teams getting in hard offense. Of all the chest chops of the night, Sarita delivered far and away the loudest one, which got a big pop as well. TNA really needs to put these two teams into a program on TV, as they all worked very well together. Madison scored the pin with her feet on the ropes for leverage.

(3) Global champion Rob Terry beat Orlando Jordan at 10:10 with a chokeslam to retain the Global Title. I'll be the first to admit I'm not a huge fan of either wrestler. The hot crowd seemed to die out in this match. Orlando Jordan very slowly worked over Rob's "injured" leg and the pace kind of dragged out. Terry did manage to get in some impressive offense at the end, which got the crowd going. I'll say this about Terry, he did a great job selling his leg while Jordan worked it over. It wasn't over the top and he didn't really forget about his leg when he turned the match around with offense.

Jeff Jarrett came out to thank the fans for their support. He talked about TNA's eighth birthday on Saturday. He said the thing he liked about the Ohio crowds is that they tell TNA what they like and don't like. If that's true, then Orlando Jordan should be fired in short order.

(4) Kurt Angle & Mr. Anderson beat Matt Morgan & Eric Young at 7:15. Young tapped out to Angle's anklelock. Morgan came out to decent heat with scattered cheers and Young to not much of anything. Anderson came out and started his signature introduction. Before the second "Anderson," he stopped at "AND." He mentioned this was a special night, as his tag partner was the "second greatest wrestler" in TNA. He then introduced "Kurt Angle....ANGLE" to a big pop. After Angle and Anderson tossed their shirts into the crowd, Anderson tried to take Hebner's shirt off and toss it, which got a big pop. Morgan really got after the crowd and earned some tremendous heat. I appreciated Morgan as a heel even more in person. He really knew how to strike a nerve. He got in a Carbon Footprint, then Young hit his diving elbow before Angle came back with suplexes and made Young tap out. For my money, there is not a better suplex-thrower out there than Angle. He made it look so easy.

Intermission. Don West hawked deals, Hebner signed his shirts (which were $10 a pop), and they plugged a brown bag special. Also, autographed 8x10's from Jeff Hardy were only $10. The BP's signed at the merch table and most of the guys in the arena waited in line or took cell phone pics while drooling.

(5) X Division champion Douglas Williams beat Shannon Moore at 10:51 with the Chaos Theory to retain the X Division Title. This was a very good match despite two wrestlers with contrasting styles. Moore got in quite a bit of high-flying offense, with Williams leaving the ring to recover, which brought the heat. Williams had a lot of ground and pound offense with holds mixed in. He grabbed Shannon by the mohawk quite a bit as well, which I don't remember seeing on their TV matches. Williams at one point acted like he was running to set-up a suicide dive on Moore outside the ring, but stopped at the last minute and did his wrist-grab pose, which also got tons of heat. "USA" chants were all over this match. Shannon had a lot of nearfalls, which drew the crowd into the match.

Jeremy Borash said that it was not the last time that they would be at the Nutter Center. He also thanked the Armed Forces in the audience, which was a nice gesture, especially with an Air Force Base right next door.

(6) Jeff Hardy beat A.J. Styles at 13:00 with a Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb in the main event. A.J. came out to quite a bit of cheers, but Hardy came out and brought the house down. There was no doubt who most of the people came to see. A.J. yelled into the mic to stop the music. "Jeff made his own music and it sucks!" was his retort, and that got the most heat of the night. He also refused to wrestle unless he got the respect he deserved. Hebner said he would suspend A.J. if he didn't come to the ring. His primadonna act really went over and got a tremendous amount of heat. A.J. got in his usual offense along with the Pele kick. Hardy "struggled" through the match until pulling out a Twist of Fate and the Swanton to wrap it up.

One funny thing during this match was that Kurt Angle came to the merchandise table and quite a bit of the crowd got in line during the match. Even funnier than that was overhearing a girl tell a friend on her cell phone that she was at "WrestleMania." An autograph party was held afterwards, but I didn't stick around for that.

Biggest Pops:
-- Hardy (by far)
-- Angle
-- Anderson
Both women's tag teams

Biggest heat:
-- A.J. (after working for it)
-- Matt Morgan
-- Douglas Williams
-- Orlando Jordan

This was my first TNA live event and it was really enjoyable. I'll go back if TNA returns to Dayton.
