TNA house show report
September 10, 2010
Canton, Ohio
Report by Amanda Chamers, PWTorch reader

My friend and I had $50 tickets, so we were part of the beforehand meet and greet, which was more like the guys just walking around beside the barriers signing whatever you throw at them. But involved in this were A.J. Styles, Matt Morgan, Rhino, Madison Rayne, Kazarian, James Storm, Robert Roode, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, and the Hebner refs.

After they all went backstage and the rest of the people got in, Don West was selling merchandise, of course. I guess RVD has a new shirt. There was also this special deal with a guitar. If you bought it (for $125) you could go backstage twice and get pictures taken in the ring with somebody for free. They only had 12 guitars and they were all gone really fast.

The show started and Jeremy Borash came out, announcing he had some backstage passes and would be giving them out. Some guy ran out and was like, "No no no, A.J. doesn't want people backstage, no passes," which, by the way, they have done at the last three shows I have been to. So, A.J. came out and everybody booed him. He threatened JB and made a big fuss saying it was his show, etc. Then, why was he in the opening match? Jeff Jarrett came out to a huge pop and made a match stipulation: if he won, people could go backstage, and if A.J. won, people could NOT go backstage.

(1) Jeff Jarrett beat A.J. Styles. The match was pretty good, with A.J. doing a lot of his high-flying moves, but, of course, he lost. Cheers all around, Jarrett handed out some backstage passes via security, and A.J. limped backstage.

(2) Knockouts champion Angelina Love (w/Velvet Sky) beat Madison Rayne. They had some kind of rope-grinding contest, with lots of high-pitched screaming at each other that I couldn't understand. It took like ten minutes for the match to actually start and it was okay, but well-received by the men in the audience. Velvet Sky was walking around outside of the ring and distracted Madison (grabbed her foot) so Angelina could get the pin. More cheering.

(3) Kazarian beat Suicide. Suicide? Glad to see Suicide is still on the roster. (Editor's note: Kiyoshi is working as Suicide these days.) Kaz came out and did the Fortune hand thing to lots of booing. Suicide came out to huge cheers. The match itself was pretty good, if something of a brain-bender. Enjoyable, but nothing spectacular. Kaz won. Boos all around.

(4) TNA tag champions Motor City Machineguns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) beat Beer Money (Robert Roode & James Storm) to retain the TNA Tag Titles. This was a "rematch" between Beer Money and the Guns from their Best of Seven series. It was easily the best match of the evening (but the Guns are my favorite, so I'm probably biased). Good wrestling from both teams, with lots of high-flying by the Guns. They are more spectacular in real life than they are on TV. Beer Money spent the first half of the match beating the crap out of Shelley, but Sabin got in, Shelley got his second wind, one of BM got his face Shell-Shocked into a turnbuckle, and the Guns did Skull and Bones for the win. Towards the end, Sabin landed a move a little weird and it looked like he tweaked his knee or something. The guys walked unsteadily backstage. Huge cheers. Did I mention huge cheers? Great match.

[Intermission. Backstage, we saw basically the same people who did the meet and greet before the show. Shelley and Sabin were back there also, and I managed to ask Sabin if his knee was okay, and he said he was fine. No worries there. My friend and I talked to JB a little bit, but that was all. It was pretty crowded back there. After maybe ten minutes, we were herded out by security and back to our seats.]

(5) Matt Morgan beat Rhino. Matt Morgan also did the Fortune thing, also to large boos. He talked up Fortune and talked crap, then Rhino came running out to get the match underway. Pretty good, also entertaining but nothing spectacular. Rhino went for the Gore, but Matt Morgan dodged, retaliated, and got the pin. Morgan sold a rib injury climbing between the ropes and Rhino limped backstage after.

The main event was Mr. Anderson vs The Pope. Anderson had some mic time and yelled at JB for introducing him incorrectly. Then, Anderson pulled a little kid into the ring and had him do the announcing. It was really cute. Then, Pope came out and they got to it.

(6) Mr. Anderson beat The Pope D'Angelo Dinero. The crowd had absolutely no reaction to this match at all. I saw a lot of people on phones and talking to each other and what have you. As the match progressed, people started leaving early. Anderson won the match to half-hearted cheers.

JB came back into the ring, thanked everyone for coming out, and said they were doing something special -- a meet and greet. The guys would be coming out and signing autographs and someone, either Anderson or Angle (Angle was there signing autographs before the show, and came out and had some mic time, but he didn't wrestle), would be in the ring taking pictures for $20 per group of people. My friend and I decided we'd had just about all the meetin' and greetin' we could handle and skipped out.

On the whole, pretty good, although not the best live show they'd put on.
