WWE Smackdown brand house show report
September 11, 2010
Minehead, U.K.
Report by T. Hayes, PWTorch reader
The show held at the Butlins Resorts and drew 5,000.
(1) MVP pinned Jack Swagger.
(2) Kelly Kelly pinned Women's champion Layla in a non-title match.
(3) Intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler pinned Matt Hardy to retain the IC Title. Editor's Note: PWTorch learned earlier today that WWE sent Hardy home from the tour after the show.
Cody Rhodes came out to disprove a stereotype about the British having bad teeth by asking one girl at ringside to smile and prove it wrong. He recoiled in disgust and said he couldn't disprove it, as it's true that Brits have terrible teeth. He then began to sing the U.S. national anthem, but was cut off by Swagger's music. Jack proceeded to show Cody how to warm up the vocal cords with lots of bad sounding "me me me ME ME me," etc., which bought out Ziggler.
All three butchered the national anthem (Dolph was cracking up a lot during this), then Drew McIntyre's music hit. They thought this was great and offered him the fourth place in their boy band. "The pony tail is in! Before you say anything, YES, yes you can join." Drew agreed that Brits are known for having bad teeth, but this is down to the fact that they're also known for drinking a lot and fighting. He pointed out that he was Scottish, but also British and said he would take on all three of them. The heels beat him down, which led to...
(4) Drew McIntyre pinned Cody Rhodes.
(5) Alberto Del Rio submitted Chris Masters.
(6) C.M. Punk pinned Christian following the Go 2 Sleep. Christian started bleeding from the forehead during the match. The trainer wiped it clean and added Vaseline.
The main event up next was one of the tamest Street Fight matches I've ever seen.
(7) World Hvt. champion Kane beat Big Show to retain the World Hvt. Title. Punk came out and handed a chair to Kane to help him win. Big Show gave Punk the KO Punch after the match to send the crowd home happy.
Other notes: there was an obscene amount of John Cena merchandise sold. The best match was Punk vs. Christian. The best moment was the singing. It was hilarious to see the heels cracking up as they tried so hard to sing the national anthem.
