CHIKARA show results

On a "Night of Champions," I had the honor of watching
Manami Toyota live in Brooklyn, N.Y. Chikara Pro Wrestling put on their N.Y. debut show at the Warsaw in Brooklyn on Sunday. This was the first Chikara show I have attended and it won't be my last! The crowd was standing room only, estimated at 500.

It was one fantastic show, but the highlight was being able to see Manami Toyota live and up-close. I think it is safe to say that you have to be a wrestling fan to know who Toyota is. Tsk tsk to any fan who had this opportunity to see Toyota in NYC and passed on it.

The atmosphere in the building was a bit reminiscent
of seeing ECW at the Elk's Lodge on Queens Blvd., though Chikara being family-oriented, without the vulgarities.

-- Mike Quackenbush & Manami Toyota beat Claudio Castagnoli & Sara Del Rey in the main event. I will say the show is one of my favorites to have attended in my lifetime, but this main event has to be one of the greatest I have seen live - with Toyota inches in front of me. Castagnoli has been at his best the last few times I have seen him and he was in top form here. Quackenbush was solid with the technical/high-flying. This match put Del Rey on the map in my book. But nothing compared to seeing Manami come out in her lavish red robe, hit her signature moves, give Castagnoli his due, and pick up a submission win on Del Rey.

After the match, Quackenbush thanked everyone for coming and making it possible to have a legend like Toyota here performing for the audience. Manami went from the ring to a side table, signed autographs, and took pictures with everyone as Chikara's wrestlers mingled.

I eagerly await the DVD release for this show and the night before in Baltimore (with Toyota vs. Daizee Haze) and for the Torch Staff to see it and give their thoughts. I walked away with a great night of wrestling, a Match of the Year Contender, a lifetime match for me, several Manami autographs, and pictures with a true legend in professional wrestling. Was there a PPV tonight?
