WWE Live show results
July 5, 2015
Rockford, Ill.
Report by VIP member Jonathon

My wife and I were at the house show Sunday night at the Metro Center here in Rockford. Overall, it was a pretty fun night, but I have to say the crowd wasn't nearly as hot as they were at the live event last year. We estimated about 1,500-2,000 people there (and yet I was the ONLY person with a Bayley shirt...c'mon Rockford). The floor and lower bowl sections were filled and most of the upper deck was empty.

They opened with a Triple H babyface promo video hyping the crowd.

(1) WWE tag champions Prime Time Players (Titus O'Neil & Darren Young) beat The Ascension (Konnor & Viktor). Good opening match. The Players were fairly over and there were a couple of good hot tags.
O'Neil got the pin after a spinebuster.

(2) Fandango beat Adam Rose. Rose cut a fairly good heel promo before the match, getting a fair amount of heat. It felt very natural and unforced, which I would like to see more of. During the match, Rose did the Edgecutioner on Fandango, and somewhere in Texas, Stone Cold is fuming. Fandango won after a vertical suplex of all moves.

(3) Meta Powers (Curtis Axel & Damien Sandow) beat Brad Maddox & Heath Slater. Another good heel promo before the match from Maddox. There was a guy at ringside wearing a Y2J light-up jacket and Brad got into a bit of a shouting match with him, which was pretty funny. After winning, the Meta Powers spent a fair amount of time posing and riling up the crowd.

(4) R-Truth beat David Otunga. Apparently Otunga is from the area, as he was greeted with a "Welcome home" chant. He acknowledged it, and then cut a promo about how people bug him at various landmarks around the city, but he said he is really from Elgin (about 45 miles away) and that he would have gone nowhere had he actually been from Rockford. There were "Elgin sucks" chants throughout the match. R-Truth won with a roll-up.

They aired the Connor the Crusher video.

(5) Roman Reigns beat Bray Wyatt. Wyatt got a pure babyface reaction coming out, along with Reigns. Reigns did have the bigger pop. This was a face vs. face match as far as the crowd was concerned. Each reversal got a bigger cheer. The match built to a nice crescendo with Reigns hitting the spear and the win. Reigns did a great job of waiting that extra half-second before kicking out towards the end of the match. Once he switched over to doing that for the last couple of nearfalls it really helped build the suspense of the match.

[Intermission]

(6) Natalya & Alicia Fox beat Summer Rae & Cameron with Emma as special referee. Nattie was the only one who got a reaction in this match. She had a good connection with the crowd and did what she could to get people into it, but it was a pretty dull match and the crowd just wasn't into it. Nattie got Summer Rae to tap out to the Sharpshooter.

(7) IC champion Ryback beat The Miz and Big Show in a three-way match to retain the Intercontinental Title. Big Show got a legends pop and was cheered throughout the match, but Ryback was the real star here. The crowd was very receptive to him and he had probably the best in-ring connection with the crowd all night. Decent match with Ryback getting the pin on Miz after Shell-shocked.

(8) WWE World Hvt. champion Seth Rollins beat Dean Ambrose in a Street Fight to retain the WWE World Hvt. Title. Great pop for Dean and great heat on Seth. Seth started this match on the outside, refusing to come in. Dean eventually just laid down in the center of the ring which caused Seth to grab a mic and yell about none of us respecting him as the champion. Good action using chairs and kendo sticks on each other. The crowd was chanting for tables, so Dean went to the outside and got one, setting it up in the corner turnbuckle. Seth eventually gave him a running powerbomb into it. Seth got another table and set it up, but Dean eventually put him through it with a top-rope elbow drop. Moral is - don't be the one to actually set up the table. Seth eventually won after Bray Wyatt interfered and gave Dean the Sister Abigail.

Post-match, the heels ganged up on Dean and started to give him a beat down. People actually started to head out at this point as if they really didn't know what was coming next. Roman Reigns came out and made the save. The faces cleared the ring and celebrated while Dean's music played.

- Loudest Cheers: (1) Roman Reigns, (2) Dean Ambrose, (3) Ryback. I will say that there were an equal number of Ambrose and Reigns shirts in the crowd.

- Loudest Boos: (1) Seth Rollins, (2) Miz, (3) Adam Rose.

No return date was announced.
