By Wade Keller, PWTorch editor

Welcome to a new website-exclusive PWTorch feature! I am PWTorch founder and editor, Wade Keller. I've been covering pro wrestling since 1987 when I started the Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter while still in high school. Over 25 years later, PWTorch reaches more wrestling fans every week than any other independent brand. When we launched PWTorch.com in 1999, one of the features I enjoyed doing the most was "Ask PWTorch." I haven't done it recently on the website, but did revive it in recent years in an audio format for PWTorch VIP members on my Keller Hotline. We reintroduced it to the website audience this month week. Today, I am joined by PWTorch staff members in tackling several new questions you all sent in since yesterday.

If you have a question you'd like me to respond to, send your question to askpwtorch@gmail.com. I will usually answer the questions, but I may lean on our staff at times, also.

PWTorch.com reader Quillan Green of Wilmington, N.C. asks: I was raised during the Attitude Era and witnessed a lot of great battles and feuds, but one feud I always never got to see, and one I think would have drawn big time even after the Attitude Era was HBK vs The Rock. I was just wondering if you guys had any idea to why that feud never happened in the WWE. I also want to thank you guys for the best wrestling website, PERIOD. Thanks for your time and hopefully an answer.

PWTorch editor Wade Keller answeres: The Rock and Shawn Michaels were not friendly with each other during the Attitude Era. There were so many other people for Rock to work with during the relatively short time both were around, and Rock didn't emerge as a top tier main event star who would even be a candidate to face Michaels until shortly before Michaels suffered his back injury and took an extended hiatus starting in 1998. So besides the short timeframe to book it, because they didn't get along, management knew it wasn't great chemistry to book them. I think had Michaels stayed around healthy during the late '90s and very early 2000s before Rock left for Hollywood, there would have been no choice but to match them against each other at some point despite the personal issues between them.

Here's what Rock had to say to me about Shawn back in my 1999 Torch Talk interview with him (his longest insider interview to date, available to read or listen to at our VIP website):

Keller: I don't think Shawn Michaels's name has come up other than when we talked about the Survivor Series. What are your thoughts on him? Was he helpful to you? Was he a hindrance to you? Was he someone you learned from, even his mistakes? Did he set a good example?

The Rock: He was not helpful to me. I never sought his help. I really have nothing to say about Shawn.

Keller: Is that because if you can't say something good, you don't want to say anything at all?

The Rock: Not necessarily. He was cordial with me as I was with him. But other than that, he doesn't know me well enough to speak of me and I don't know him well enough to speak of him.

Keller: Michaels is regarded as a fabulous athlete, a fabulous performer, and one of the best of this era or generation. If you agree with that to any degree, do you have a desire to work a top program with him if he were able to come back and work a handful of matches?

The Rock: No, I have no desire to work with Shawn. None whatsoever.

Keller: Do you disagree that he was a great performer?

The Rock: Not at all. He was a tremendous performer, a tremendous athlete. His work was an asset to the business.

PWTorch.com reader San Henderson asks: Which rather unknown independent talent do you believe has the most potential both in ring and on the mic?

PWTorch columnist Sean Radican (a close follower of the indy scene for PWTorch who also reviews DVDs and books for the Torch) answers: Sugar Dunkerton and Biff Busick are two wrestlers I would keep my eye on when it comes to having a combination of in-ring talent and promos. Dunkerton is someone that has gotten a lot of exposure in CHIKARA, but hasn't risen above that level yet. I think he would be a great addition to any major independent company, as he's shown the ability to work heel, babyface, and also tweak his gimmick to appeal to kids in certain situations. Dunkerton's work has also improved in the ring in the past year, so he's someone to keep an eye on this year.

Biff Busick has become really good in the ring. I've seen him wrestle live a couple of times in the last six months and he can work a believable technical style in the ring doing the Biff Busick gimmick. Since he began working as Francis O'Rourke in the Wrestling Is promotion, he's shown a lot of range in terms of pulling off a mid-card heel character that prefers to be called "Frank" and not "Francis." I haven't seen many of his promos, but in terms of how he carries himself in the ring and engages a live audience, he's very good.

PWTorch reader Jamie from the United Kingdom asks: I'm just wondering what's happening with the supposed '80s wrestling theme TV series that was announced back in 2011 that was to be produced by The Rock and Jerry Bruckheimer. It really sounded like a good set for a TV drama but since then I haven't really seen or read anything more about it. Just wondering if you were aware of anything new about this and whether it's still happening or not.

PWTorch assistant editor James Caldwell answers: I remember earlier this year there was a report that NBC eventually passed on the concept and it never got made. I think it was too "wrestling specific" and didn't appeal to a broad-enough audience in their eyes. Plus, perhaps Rock ended up with better offers for other bigger money projects, including the newly announced HBO dramedy written by Steve Levinson ("Entourage"). The show will follow athletes, both retired and still active, hanging out in Miami. The Rock will be the star and it will premiere this fall.
