Torch Indy Weekend Report: Quackenbush wins TPI, Shelley & Sabin retain in AAW, Strong in FIP
Oct 2, 2007 - 3:26:48 PM

By Chris Vetter

Torch Indy Reporter Chris Vetter travels thousands of miles each year to see dozens of indy shows all over the Midwest. His reports covering the entire U.S. Indy Scene are usually published exclusively here at PWTorch.com every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

WEEKEND RESULTS, NEWS & NOTES

LOTS of indy results today, as I have results from the IWA Mid-South big “Ted Petty Invitational.” Mike Quackenbush won the two-day, 24-man tournament. In the three-way finals, he beat Claudio Castagnoli and Chuck Taylor to win the heavyweight title, as well as the tournament. I attended night 1, and the crowd was about 240, which is pretty impressive considering all the cancellations (Low Ki, Samoa Joe, Alex Shelley, Jimmy Rave, B-Boy, Matt Sydal.)

I attended a fantastic AAW show on Saturday, where Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin retained their tag titles in a match against Christian York & Joey Mercury. In a wild, bloody main event, Shane Hollister & Bryce Benjamin defeated the Phoenix Twins in a TLC match. Even with the IWA tournament just 20 miles away, the crowd was about 200 for this show.

In FIP, the Dragon Gate team of BxB Hulk & Yamato defeated Jay Briscoe & Roderick Strong. FIP is boasting record-setting crowds both nights of the double-header.

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.

I buy many PPVs a year and will continue to do so regardless
I buy a few PPVs a year and will selectively continue despite the price raise
I will cut back somewhat as it seems a little pricey
I will cut back drastically as this feels like gouging
Out of principle and protest, I will stop ordering any other than maybe WM
They had previously priced me out of the market, so this affirms my non-ordering habits
