Torch Indy Midweek Report: Hero wins in ROH, Cannon, IWA to keep going

By Chris Vetter

Torch Indy Reporter Chris Vetter travels thousands of miles each year to see dozens of indy shows all over the Midwest. His reports covering the entire U.S. Indy Scene are usually published exclusively here at PWTorch.com every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

WEEKEND RESULTS, NEWS & NOTES

Better late than never! I’m a few days behind after some busy things going on in my life. Here’s a quick rundown of what happened over the weekend.

Crowds were said to be quite sparse for the ROH shows on the west coast. Results are below. Chris Hero won the “Survival of the Fittest” tournament on Friday, in front of perhaps the smallest crowd in ROH history. Hero eliminated all five opponents in the six-way elimination finale to win the tournament.

In AAW, after Jerry Lynn retained the AAW title, he brawled with “Venom” Keith Walker, who was recently released from his WWE developmental deal. Walker is a muscular man, but I wrote a year ago – when he first signed his contract – that I didn’t think he was “WWE ready.” But, I’m glad to see he’s immediately back to work on the indy scene.

There’s a lot of big shows this weekend, with PWG heading to Europe for a three-show tour, and the HUGE JAPW “10th Anniversary show,” plus big events from Chikara Pro, IWA Mid-South, Northeast Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling Unplugged.

Speaking of IWA Mid-South, the promotion announced it does plan to run shows into 2008. Two weeks ago, the promotion hinted that its Dec. 7 show would be its final event. So, I certainly consider this to be good news!

Minnesota veteran Arik Cannon leaves for a six-week tour of Japan this week, and I wish him well!

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
