ETC. News: Big Van Vader update and appearance, wrestling comic book hits shelves tomorrow Oct 30, 2007 - 5:42:38 PM
-Big Van Vader, Leon White, made a surprise appearance at the IWF training gym, called "The Butcher Shop," in Northglenn, Col. on Wednesday, Oct. 24. He spent over two hours assisting with training and just hanging out telling stories with the other wrestlers and trainees. Leon recently had hip surgery and is on track for a full recovery and will be able to resume normal activity early 2008. Leon is currently retired and is living in the Denver area.
-The first issue of the comic book "Headlocked" by Michael Kingston hits comic book shelves tomorrow. The press release states: "Headlocked: Work of Art, the 48 pg special that launches the highly anticipated new series from AAM/Markosia will be available in comic book stores everywhere this Wednesday, October 31st! Mike Hartmann is a skinny theater major when he attends his first wrestling event, albeit against his will. Once there, he is mesmerized with the performance and can see the art behind the chair swinging theatrics. He then sets out to learn the craft of pro wrestling and make it to the top of the wrestling world. But before he reaches the big time, he must navigate the seedy underbelly of a business that hasn't progressed much from its carnival roots. It's a journey filled with con men, racism, gangsters, drugs, money, sex, and violence-both scripted and unscripted. Find it at your local comic store (www.comicshoplocator.com to find the closest retailer), mail order comic sites (www.mailordercomics.com, www.midtowncomics.com), or for more info (www.visionarycomics.com and www.myspace.com/mike_kingston)". Creator Michael Kingston adds: "Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the book thus far. The only way that independent books can become successful is through the support and word of mouth from comic book and wrestling fans like you, so I am grateful to everyone who bought a book, a shirt, or even just mentioned the book to a friend or retailer! Thanks very much!"
